More Insanity at Elementary School Over "Guns"

Principal Sheree Boozer, Ready to Arrest Any
Six Year Old for Criminal Tresspass on School Grounds
The extremism of elementary school administrators is again on display as a six year old girl is expelled from kindergarten.  The child is Naomi McKinney.  Her dastardly crime:  she brought a toy gun to school for show and tell.  The toy gun was made of clear plastic.

The administrators at Alice Drive Elementary in Sumter, South Carolina, have expelled Naomi and banned her from school grounds, threatening to have her arrested for criminal trespassing if she sets foot on school property.

The administrators at Alice Drive Elementary said that "they take any potential threat very seriously and will remain vigilant in creating a safe and secure environment."

A safe and secure environment from six year old kindergartners?  These people are nuts!! Extremists in the true sense of the word.  The entire staff of Alice Drive should be fired forthwith.

The principal of this concentration camp writes:
From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to Alice Drive Elementary where we strive to provide a safe, nurturing environment in which each child can flourish! We are proud to announce that we have six new staff members joining the Alice Drive family this year. They are Shauntae Bines, guidance counselor; Brittni Buitireira, third grade; Allison Hafner,Kindergarten; Gina Wright, resource; Virginia Driggers, paraprofessional; and Ida Burnes, paraprofessional. We know you will make them feel welcome!
Yes, the apparatchiks are welcome, but six year old kindergartners, not so much.

Principal Boozer also writes:
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s education, please stop in, or give me a call at (803) 775-0857, or e-mail me at sheree.boozer@sumterschools.net. I have an open door policy and will be glad to meet or talk with you at your convenience. Our normal office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We look forward to working with you this year!

Good Thing I Am Studying Spanish

It appears that Bolshevik Barry is going to grant amnesty to 11 million illegal immigrants now in the United States.  Further, he wants to provide a fast track for these immigrants to U.S. citizenship.

That will add another 11 million voters to Democrat ranks, making it more and more difficult to defeat the socialist/collectivist transformation of America.

Expect a greater drain on economic resources and greater and greater national debt.

If you think Karl Marx Obama is deliberately trying to destroy the United States, you are right.

Stephen King, Leftist Hypocrite, Deplores Gun Violence and NRA (Photoshop)

Stephen King has written an essay called "Guns," in which he blames the National Rifle Association for recent massacres by mad men. Stephen King wrote:
"One only wishes Wayne LaPierre and his NRA board of directors could be drafted to some of these [violent] scenes, where they would be required to put on booties and rubber gloves and help clean up the blood, the brains, and the chunks of intestine still containing the poor wads of half-digested food that were some innocent bystander’s last meal."
It's too bad that Stephen King is a hypocritical leftist.  He has authored some of the best horror fiction ever written, novels like "Carrie," "IT" and "The Shining."  I have truly enjoyed his fiction and have savored his writing talent.  However, early in his career he wrote some dubious novels under the pen name of Richard Bachman.  One of those was a short novel called "Rage," in which a mentally disturbed student brings a gun to class, kills the teacher, and holds the classroom hostage while police gather outside.  I didn't like the story.  It was very violent but had no point, no moral message.  It was violence for the sake of violence.  There was no epiphany, no satisfying resolution.  I wondered why King would write such trash.

News Busters reports:
In subsequent years, numerous school murders occurred around the country with the assailants saying they had gotten the idea directly or loosely from "Rage."
One can only wonder if Adam Lanza, James Holmes, Jared Loughner, Seung-Hoi Cho, Eric Harris or Dylan Klebold got their ideas from "Rage."  All of these incidents involve some similarity to King's violent fiction, "Rage."  Indeed, Lanza, Cho, Harris and Klebold all carried out their gun murders on school grounds or campuses.  All four shot teachers and students to death.

Other documented cases connected with "Rage" are listed at Wikepedia here.

So when it's time to get the boots and buckets and mops to clean up the gore, maybe we should call on Stephen King, who has undoubtedly inspired mass murder with his fiction.  The NRA?  No.

Associated Press Claims Western U.S. Becoming Solidly Democrat

Frederic Bastiat, 1801 - 1850
The A.P. has an article that claims the western United States is slowly moving leftward.  Without a doubt, Hispanic immigration is fueling that trend.

When the U.S. becomes yet another burnt-out socialist cesspool like much of Europe, where will people go who want to stay free?  Where can anyone escape the coming financial collapse?

The Democrats even have a plan to turn Texas blue.  What a ghastly thought.

Alas, those who promise free stuff will always win over the masses, it seems.  Keep charging up the federal credit card to buy free stuff in exchange for votes from people who can't see beyond next week, nor are smart enough to balance their own checkbooks.

Perhaps the tides of history are against us.  No, let's reword that.  The tides of human nature are against us.  In general, people will always take the easy way out, or at least what they perceive to be the easy way out.  Instant gratification will always win out over delayed gratification.  Live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself.

Understanding of complex issues takes work, like understanding how the economy works and wealth is created.  Bumper sticker slogans and talking points will do instead.

What do we do now?  Beats the hell out of me.

Living Rich in Hawaii With Pro Bowl Players and Elvis

Peyton and Eli Manning by the Pool - Peyton is standing, Eli is shirtless and
sitting.  They are in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl Game on Sunday (Click to Enlarge).
One of my sons is vacationing in Hawaii.  He is staying at the Marriott Hotel where the NFL football players are also staying, in preparation for the Pro Bowl.  The Pro Bowl is a game played about a week before the Super Bowl and features the best players in the NFL, with the NFC team playing the AFC team.  Recently, however, a lot of stars have dropped out of playing in the game, raising concerns that the Pro Bowl may be cancelled after this year.

There's a good reason for it:  NFL players aren't going to go the extra mile to win a game that essentially means little.  Why risk the injuries?  Just go through the motions.  Some critics have gone so far as to say that the Pro Bowl is a joke.  At the very least, it is highly anti-climactic in light of the Super Bowl, an event that really does mean a lot to football fans and players alike.  The 2013 Pro Bowl will be played in Aloha Stadium on January 27.  The Super Bowl will be played on February 3 at the Super Dome in New Orleans.

This week while my son was having dinner with his family in the hotel, the waiter pointed out to him that the two men sitting at the next table were the Manning brothers:  Peyton Manning, quarterback for the Denver Broncos, and his brother Eli Manning, quarterback for the New York Giants.  He took a picture of them with his iPhone and sent it to me.  They look like two guys having dinner.  Eli's young daughter was with them.  I told my son to tell them "Niners Rule" but he demurred.

My son attended the 40 year anniversary replay of the Elvis 1973 concert from Hawaii, which took place in Hawaii (and broadcast by satellite) on January 14, 1973.  The replay was the filmed concert, played in the same concert hall where the actual event took place 40 years before on that very night.  I watched the original broadcast on television in 1973.  I especially love the song written by Hawaiian singer Kui Lee, "I'll Remember You."  Kui Lee died in 1966 of cancer and the 1973 Elvis concert was to raise money for a new cancer wing in his name.

Now that was an event worth watching.

Molon Labe, Bitches

The Fascist Administration is moving ahead with its goal of disarming Americans and castrating the Second Amendment.  Read their disgusting plans here.

I am looking for a Bushmaster rifle.  Anyone know where I can get one?

I will rejoin the NRA this week.  I suggest that you do too, if you aren't already a member.

Abraham Lincoln Statue in Washington, D.C. (Photoshop)

For those who think I was a bit hard on Old Abe yesterday, I am now posting this famous marble statue of the man.  Enjoy it!

I changed the inscription to more accurately reflect the statue's purpose.  Hope you don't mind.

Highly Historical Film About Abraham Lincoln Passed Over for Academy Award

I of course, refer to the film, "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter."  No, it's not really historically accurate, but not much less so than Spielberg's "Lincoln."

As a great and glorious example of moral rectitude, Lincoln was a fraud.  When I have time, I will tell you all facts about the Emancipation Proclamation that most of you never learned in school...like the fact that it didn't free a single slave -- nor was it intended to.  Perhaps our Second Coming of Lincoln will issue a Confiscation Proclamation, ending gun ownership.  But that would be unconstitutional, just like the first proclamation.  However, that is discussion for another time.

Meanwhile, when you go to the movies, pass up "Lincoln."  It is total B.S.  Believing in myths and feel-good but false history does no one any good.

In fact, "feel-good" history is often a ruse by which to justify modern politics in the here and now.  Carl Sandburg's  biography of Lincoln, written in the 1930's, was a disguised justification for FDR's New Deal.  Spielberg's "Lincoln" is presented for the same purpose, to justify Obama's overreach and suspension of the Constitution.  The more you buy into Hollywood's phony Lincoln, the less willing you will become to oppose Obama, whose policies are probably less extreme than those of Old Abe.

So you think Old Abe was a hero, even though he started a war without the approval of Congress, arrested and imprisoned thousands of US citizens without charges or trial, illegally suspended Habeas Corpus, ordered the arrest of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for ruling it unconstitutional, shut down hundreds of newspapers who disagreed with his policies, acquiesced in the illegal and unconstitutional deportation of an Ohio congressman (for opposing him), and issued a sweeping proclamation without the participation or agreement of Congress.

Further, he ordered Union troops to burn Southern universities, private homes and farms, to destroy livestock and confiscate medicines, and to use captured Confederate officers as human shields against artillery.  His glorious Yankees raped Southern black women, used Southern black men for target practice, and kidnapped others to be pressed into labor for the Union Army.  Other Northern troops stole private property from private homes, carrying off the silverware and candlesticks.  Think of that the next time you hear "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Lincoln was a dictator; there is absolutely nothing about the man that can be called "American."  He operated completely outside of the law and the Constitution and managed to kill more Americans than any foreign despot ever could.  His time in office was a reign of terror, not enlightenment, not justice, not heroism and certainly not morality.

As for the weepy and wimpy Lincoln of Spielberg's propaganda, he did not exist.  Lincoln despised black people, considered them to be an inferior race that should be deported to Africa or Central America.  His opposition to slavery in the territories was for economic and racial reasons, not equality.

Lincoln's war on the South was all about preventing secession, not about emancipation.  The Northern army was called "the Union Army," not "the Abolition Army," for a reason.  This fact becomes more pertinent and important every day, now that tens of thousands of Americans in every state in the Union have petitioned Obama for the right to peacefully secede from the socialist tyranny now under construction.  When states actually do begin to secede once again, Obama will undoubtedly try to stop them by brute force...just as Lincoln did.  And if you buy into the Lincoln myth, how could you possibly oppose him?

Aha, now you see the reason for this propaganda.  You are being trained to embrace tyranny as great patriotism, and Obama as the reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln.

Scientific Plot to Create More Democrats: Bringing Neanderthal Back to Life

Neanderthals:  New Democrat Constituency?
First leftwing scientists attempt to install fascism using a bogus environmental threat (man-made global warming).  That didn't work, so now they are attempting to create yet another Democrat constituency, Neanderthal Man.  Not only will this swell Democratic ranks, but will add to their long-prized state of diversity.

A Harvard professor thinks he can recreate the Neanderthal DNA from ancient bones, and use that to clone a Neanderthal.  However, he  needs an "adventurous woman" to act as a surrogate mother.  No doubt he will find one, as leftwing girls do not place much value on marriage before creating new hatchlings.

What's next, cloning wooly mammoths to act as a food source?  Vote Democrat, Neanderthals, or the government will stop cloning prehistoric food.

Read the whole nasty conspiracy here.

The Left's War on Children: Kindergartner Charged With Terrorism for Bubble Gun Threat

Moonbattery, who never ever links to any other websites or blogs (but I do, in spite of this), has an interesting post about a five year old girl, a kindergartner, who was suspended for ten days from a Pennsylvania elementary school for "making terroristic threats."

The little girl was waiting at the school bus stop when she told another girl that she was going to shoot her and herself with a pink plastic Hello Kitty bubble gun.  The toy gun shoots soap bubbles.

The Principal of Mount Carmel Elementary
Met With Reporters But For Some Reason
His Voice Was Muffled and Incomprehensible
The heroic administrators of Mount Carmel Area Elementary School moved quickly to lessen the threat, following a rash of terrorist attacks worldwide using the fearsome Hello Kitty Bubble Gun (see above, where an assassination attempt barely failed when the Bubble Gun ran out of soap.  The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was put on life support in the intensive care wing. We can only thank God that the terrorist didn't use a larger caliber weapon, e.g. a squirt gun.)

In light of the violent record of Hello Kitty products, the school administrators questioned the little five-year-old girl for three hours.  The child was given a psychiatric examination which showed her not to be a threat.  On that basis, her suspension was lessened to only four days.  We are told that no bail has been set, in spite of the fact that the kindergartner deliberately failed to register the bubble gun with police.  Incredibly, no consultation was made with Interpol to discover other terroristic plots and pogroms.

Obviously, the school officials at Mount Carmel Area Elementary School have their heads WAY up their asses.  One can only wonder at the extent of the psychological damage these assholes perpetrated on an innocent child.  Many idiotic school officials have a "zero tolerance policy" for any threat, no matter how far-fetched or downright ridiculous, that occurs on school grounds (or at bus stops, apparently).  What they really have is a "zero tolerance policy" for common sense.  They have become radical extremists, brainwashing and terrorizing innocent school children.  THEY are the ones who should require a psychiatric examination.

Officials at Mount Carmel Elementary:  you have my profound disgust.  You are not forces for good, but for evil, deserving only of contempt.

Super Bowl Bound Forty-Niners Overcome Deficit, Win NFL West

Having lived in the San Francisco Bay Area most of my life, it is no surprise that I am a 49ers fan, as are all three of my sons. I first started rooting for the team around 1970.  However, when the Niners went up against a very solid Atlanta Falcons yesterday, I was prepared for a San Francisco defeat (expect the worst, hope for the best -- a motto of mine).

I turned on the radio on the way to band practice to learn the first quarter had just ended, with the Falcons ahead 10 - 0.  In the next few minutes, the Falcons made it 17 - 0.  The Niners defense had apparently taken the day off.  Oh well, I thought:  those who go to the Super Bowl have to earn it, and I won't begrudge the Falcons for showing up, while the Niners were apparently AWOL.  It is what it is, and even though I identify with the Niners, I don't actually play on the team and none of the glory of victory is really mine, except as a vicarious thrill.  Just keeping it in perspective, folks.

Serenading the gods with feeling and panache,
thereby assuring a 49ers victory
But then the Niners, who hadn't had a single first down in the first quarter, dominated the second quarter and brought the score up to 14 - 17.  Aha, I thought, the Niners have awakened and this game isn't over by a long shot.  The energetic Falcons, however, scored another touch down before the half, making the halftime score 24 - 14 in their favor.  Still doable, but the Niners would have to step up.  Meanwhile, I arrived at the band practice site and began stroking my beautiful red Rickenbacker bass guitar in loving fashion, producing gloriously deep bass notes and serenading the gods with feeling and panache.  I did this until the last half of the fourth quarter, when we of the band put our instruments down and went to watch the last of the game.

When we turned on the TV, the Falcons were deep in Niners territory and trying to score again.  The score was 28 - 24, but we didn't know who had the 28 and who had the 24.  I whipped out my iPhone and brought up Drudge, who indicated that it was the Niners who had the 28 (huzzah!).  In order to win, the Falcons would have to score a touchdown in the last two minutes of the game, and were knocking at the door, a scary situation.  Somehow, the formerly moribund Niners defense rose to the occasion and stopped the drive, returning ball control to the Niners with a minute left to play.  The Niners simply ran out the clock to confirm the win.

The 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl, in their first appearance there since 1995.  If they beat the Baltimore Ravens, they will tie Pittsburgh at six Super Bowl victories apiece.  If they win, San Francisco will have the distinct honor of hosting two championship teams in the space of a single year:  the San Francisco Giants baseball team, and the 49ers football team.  The Super Bowl this year will have an interesting angle, as both coaches (Jim Harbaugh of the Niners and John Harbaugh of the Ravens) are brothers.  The only good thing about this is that the Harbaugh family is guaranteed a Super Bowl victory, one way or the other.  (Think their dad is one proud papa?  Talk about bragging rights!)

Ah, if only our state politicians were as good as our coaches, we might be the nation's most prosperous state instead of the nation's financial basket case and laughingstock.

Mainstream Media On Board to "Pulverize, Delegitimize" the Republican Party

Thomas Lifson at American Thinker discusses the extreme bias of the Legacy Media (also known as the Democrat-Media Complex).  His column today begins:
The radical leftists who have staffed up the legacy media are losing all pretenses of being neutral reporters, and coming out of the closet as rabid partisans lately. It is one thing to openly swoon over Barack Obama at off-the-record events, which keeps the general public out of the loop, while privately reaffirming media solidarity as partisans. But it is quite something else to put one's name on a publication which argues for delegitimizing opposition to the Anointed One.
Slate online magazine advocates the same thing today:  destroy the GOP.  Remove all barriers to the Left's communization of the nation once known as the United States of America.  With victory in sight, the left is impatient to seal the deal, finish the job:  destroy American liberty and replace it with a collectivist tyranny.

This latest development again underscores the deepening divide between right and left in America.  It could have easily been foreseen that it would come to this.  For years the left has had a near monopoly on information and news reporting, and this monopoly has borne fruit, the biggest of which is Barack Obama.

At this point in our history, I do not see an electoral pathway to preserve the liberties bequeathed to us by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution.  It may require another American Revolution or civil war.  Possibly the best alternative is peaceful secession of the various states, forming new associations and new unions based on commonly-held values.

I doubt, however, that the left will allow a peaceful solution.  They are all about power and force.  What you or I want is not a concern to them.  We are mere putty to be molded to their will and vision.

"Aquarius" - A Short Story by Mike Tuggle

My friend Mike Tuggle has a creative side that includes both music and creative writing.  He has written a short story called Aquarius - as in "the Age of Aquarius," the glorious epoch that the 1960's hippies promised would be an age of enlightenment.

The story features a liberal gal from the Northeast named Joni -- a NASA scientist whose vision for mankind is to be realized -- no matter what the cost, no matter who doesn't like it, because her vision is supreme, and the rest of us on the planet are but putty to be molded to fit. (Who does that remind you of?)

Well I don't want to bias you too much against the story's protagonist, so go and read the story yourself.  It is very well written and quite entertaining to read:

Impeach the SOB!

GOP Congressman Steve Stockman of Texas has warned President Obama that Stockman will file articles of impeachment if Obama attempts gun control through executive order.

It's about time.  Not since Woodrow Wilson or Abe Lincoln has the country suffered a worse despot, someone who rules by decree and suspends the Constitution by whim.

Obama has a totalitarian mentality.  He know's best, and his way will be done, no matter how many Americans oppose it.  A more arrogant fool has never before stunk up the Oval Office than this A-hole.

Little Islands of Liberty to Form Throughout America

Heck, fifteen years ago, the League of the South had these same ideas i.e., how to create a form of internal secession and organization of like-minded communities to resist the advance of cultural Marxism.  Now someone is actually doing what they envisioned.  Canada Free Press has the story:

CNSNews.com is reporting that “a group of like-minded patriots, bound together by pride in American exceptionalism, plan on building an armed community to protect their liberty”.
“The group, named Citadel, intends to purchase 2,000 to 3,000 acres for the project in western Idaho. The community will comprise of 3,500 to 7,000 families of patriotic Americans who “voluntarily choose to live together in accordance with Thomas Jefferson’s ideal of Rightful Liberty.” (CNSNews, Jan. 12, 2013)

This is the first open defiance standing squarely in the way of Obama’s ongoing obsession to trash America and its revered Constitution in the face of an Obama-owned promise to fundamentally transform America, since the birth of the TEA Party. And it’s arrival in the Public Square came in advance of next week’s Big Gloat called Inauguration.

If the resistance of “Rightful Liberty” can be planted in acreage in western Idaho, it can be planted anywhere else in the fruited plain.

Patriots don’t have to be driven out of America, they can live out their lives on American soil in communities founded by patriotism.
People everywhere are beginning to realize just how radical Obama and the Democrats have become -- and to think of new ways to cope.

Old Abandoned Boat on a Lonely Shore (Photoshop With a Political Message)

I had the day off, and used it practicing Photoshop.  I created the image below by combining various images off the web:  ship, beach and sea gull.  Finally, I made the clouds cover the sky and made it rain.  Looks wet and cold, which puts me in the mood for a hot cup of coffee, followed by a nap.

Update:  I almost always continue tweaking a Photoshop, even after it has been posted.  Decided the perspective wasn't realistic:  the boat is really a small ship and needs to appear bigger in the scene.  Fixed it.

Update 2:  I decided the ship needed a name, so gave it the name of the USS Constitution.  Both the ship and its document namesake appear to be equally neglected and abandoned today.   Also -- added a couple of flying gulls to give some more motion (other than that of the waves).

Update 3:  I found some more realistic brushes for making rain and rain splatter, so replaced the rain.

Now I think we have a Photoshop with a subtle message, giving an impression of passing time, neglect and decay, with the ship's name and the general condition of the ship saying everything.

Somebody Stop Me!!  Now I'm just getting corny -- added some lightning, which isn't inconsistent with the general mood of conservatives over the ruination of the Constitution.  You learn Photoshop by doing, by experimenting, by trying different effects, and that's partly why I do them -- to get good at it.  Also, it's fun!

Now I think I'll add a skeleton laying in the sand, wearing a pirate's hat and clutching an old rusty cutlass.  Or maybe a big crab, to symbolize Nancy Pelosi.  Just kidding.  Part of successful Photoshopoing is knowing when to quit.  Use freely.

Wyoming Plan To Nullify Federal Gun Laws

I have been saying for awhile now that we need a few brave states to stand up to Obama's federal government and just say NO.  Wyoming may be the first state to do so.

From K2 Radio, Wyoming:
Several Wyoming lawmakers are proposing legislation designed to protect gun-owners from any potential federal firearm ban. The “Firearms Protection Act” bill, introduced this week, would make any federal law banning semi-automatic firearms or limiting the size of gun magazines unenforceable within the state’s boundaries.

Anyone trying to enforce a federal gun ban could face felony charges under the proposal. It also includes a provision allowing the Wyoming Attorney General’s office to defend any state resident against any federal firearm ban.
If the bill is passed, it will nullify any federal gun control laws passed after January 1, 2013, making such federal laws unenforceable in the State of Wyoming.
Rep. Kendell Kroeker, the lawmaker that spearheaded the bill, explained that he hoped that the federal government would recognize their constitutional rights based on the Tenth and Second Amendments.

"I think that its necessary when the federal government violates our rights in the Constitution we have to act," he explained.
The Tenth Amendment Center, which I have had linked in my sidebar for sometime, has made Model Legislation available for states wishing to nullify unconstitutional federal gun laws. See The 2nd Amendment Preservation Act.

An Indiana Republican is also studying nullification as a means of beating federal gun laws.  With any luck, the nullification movement will rapidly spread.

American Dictator Planning Gun Grab?

This morning conservatives are talking about Joe Biden's insinuation that Obama may seize all guns by Executive Order, rather than wait for any vote by Congress.  The Weekly Standard quotes an interview with Biden:
"The president is going to act," said Biden, giving some comments to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence. "There are executive orders, there's executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet. But we're compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required."

Biden said that this is a moral issue and that "it's critically important that we act."

Biden talked also about taking responsible action. "As the president said, if your actions result in only saving one life, they're worth taking. But I'm convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harm's way if we act responsibly."

No, Biden, you ignorant fool, you will be putting thousands of people into harm's way, by disarming them and preventing their self-defense.  You will be putting millions of American's into harm's way of losing their Constitutional freedoms.

Note to Obama and Biden:  Be careful what you put into action.  We are willing to fight, and we are determined that America will not become a socialist tyranny.  It that takes another civil war, so be it.

A Stogie Update (Personal Stuff)

French In Action
Since The Other McCain made me aware of it, I have been watching videos of the excellent French immersion series, "French In Action" (FIA) on YouTube.  Last night I completed episode 11.  There are 51, total, I think.  I listen to one or two at night just before sleep.

FIA is great ear training and builds confidence that one can actually understand spoken French!  Amazing.  I plan to take some intermediate or advanced French courses in the fall, along with continuing my studies of Spanish (grades are in, I got an A in 1-B).

Tax Season Has Started:  Now I  Can Buy Guns
Lately work opportunities for me have improved, though still quite anemic compared to those before Obama's election.  Looks like I will do some telecommuting consulting for start-up firms, and I have begun showing up at the tax office, though haven't yet had any appointments.  It is still quite early in the season and most people haven't received their W-2's, K-1's, 1099's, etc.

With increased chargeable hours, I may be able to put aside enough money to buy a Bushmaster rifle and a Glock handgun.  My 1911 Colt 45 works quite well, but the newer handguns have less kick and are therefore easier to aim during a violent confrontation.  I'll probably need around $1,000 to get the weapons I want.  I still have my two replica muzzle-loading rifles, 1855 Enfields.  I used them for reenacting as a Confederate soldier, but they are real rifles and fire real minie balls.  If you are really fast, you might be able to get off one shot every minute and a half.  It's a bitch ramming a minie ball down those rifled barrels, especially after they become somewhat fouled with spent gunpowder.  Yep, probably time to upgrade to newer technology.

Playing Bass Again
I am back with my old band and have had three practices.  The Rickenbacker bass plays like a dream.  The guys love it.

BCS Championship Game
I watched the BCS title game last night between Alabama and Notre Dame.  The latter didn't even show up. They "phoned it in," to use a popular metaphor.  I like Alabama, but wouldn't have minded seeing ND win one for the gipper (George Gipp), who played his last game 93 years ago, in 1920.  Shortly thereafter, Gipp got strep throat, which became pneumonia, and he died at age 25.  This time, the whole team expired, and Alabama won its third championship in four years, 42-14.  Reached by spiritual medium, George Gipp's only comment was WTF??

View From the Right opines on the recent newspaper outing of gun owners in New York.  Auster writes:

When the Journal News published the names and addresses of all legal handgun owners in Westchester and Rockland counties, it was treating legal gun owners as enemies of society. It was in effect commencing civil war. Did they think the civil war they were starting would only go one way?

Of course, the news staff is a bunch of silly, airhead liberal women who didn't like it when bloggers retaliated, by publishing the names and addresses of the Journal News' staff.  Some have suggested that we should publish the names of women in New York who have had an abortion (nice idea, but no database).

Auster's right about the "civil war."  The leftists in our midst feel very strongly about eliminating our rights under the Constitution -- and we feel even more strongly that they shall not.  This nasty episode illustrates well the deep divide among the populace as to what kind of country the USA will be.

Even More Shocking is the recent publication of a Map of Texas Gun Owners.

Elizabeth Warren, Fake Indian, New Leftist Senator from Massachusetts, did not register herself as the "first Native American senator" from Massachusetts.  It seems real Indians outted her once too many times, and the fact that Warren went trick-or-treating with a feather in her hair at age 8, doesn't really qualify her as "part Indian."

Warren is not the first airhead from Massachusetts either, a state that we should give back to Great Britain.  If they won't take it, we should fight a new war to make them, a kind of "reverse war for independence."  While we're at it, maybe we can force Mexico to take back California (officially this time).

Ace of Spades says there is no longer any reason for Warren's "Native American" charade, since she has now been elected, and Halloween is still ten months away.  Ace posted this photo of Chief Warren, somewhat tweaked by me:

A Massed Prayer for Lawrence Auster

From Rick Darby at Reflecting Light:
Lawrence Auster
As many of you know, Lawrence Auster [of View From the Right] has been ill for some time and has taken an apparent turn for the worse. One of his regular commentators, Kristor at The Orthosphere, is organizing a coordinated hour of prayer for his well-being.

I will participate and I urge you to.

Perhaps some of Lawrence's followers are skeptical about the power of prayer to affect medical disorders. Even people drawn to spirituality may think that prayer operates in a different realm from the physical. As it happens, I have been reading Healing Words: The Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine, by Larry Dossey, M.D. It includes information about fully scientific studies as well as anecdotal evidence suggesting the efficacy on the physical plane of prayer.

*************

Stogie:

The hour of prayer for Lawrence Auster will take place on Sunday, January 13, from 5 to 6 PM, your time. Kristor writes:
The vigil will happen in your time zone from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, Sunday, January 13. As evening falls, light a candle in an often used room, where those of your household will often see and take note of it. A burning flame is inherently interesting, and likely to be noticed. After you light the candle, and whenever you notice it again during the hour of the vigil, say a short prayer for Lawrence; something like this collect:

O LORD our Governor, whose help is in all the world, and by whom all things are made: bless now and keep thy servant Lawrence Auster, relieving him of all his troubles and travails, salving and healing all his wounds and illnesses, and restoring him to fullness of life in thee; and, at the last, call him home to everlasting joy in thy Heavenly Kingdom. All this I pray, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Or, just:

O LORD, I pray thee bless, keep and heal thy servant, Lawrence. Amen.
Pray For Lawrence Auster
January 13 is a lucky day for me.  I met my wife on January 13; my first natural grandchild was born on January 13.  I also believe in the efficacy of prayer.  I have a niece who suffered a severe brain injury in an auto accident many years ago and was not expected to live, but I prayed for her fiercely, as did other family members.  She survived.  I have a friend who contracted some kind of heart virus and was given a year to live.  I prayed for her furiously as well, and her heart came back to 60% of full strength, allowing her to live indefinitely.

Larry Auster's case is a very difficult one.  He has pancreatic cancer, from which only 15% survive at least five years, and that is only under the very best of conditions (early detection, operable cancer).  Larry himself has predicted he would live only two years after diagnosis.  He is currently bed-ridden with severe gastro-intestinal distress, probably a side effect of the chemotherapy.

Miracles do happen, and I will be praying for Larry on Sunday, January 13, with a lighted candle, in my home.  Please feel free to join us.

"French In Action" Learning Episodes Now On You-Tube

Stacy McCain of The Other McCain is always scouring the internet for naughty but cute young women, probably because they provide strong incentives for men to visit his site.  Yesterday he found such eroticism in an article about a series of films made in the mid-1980's called "French In Action."  These films are for learning French by observation of French actors portraying everyday scenes of French life, and by listening to their conversations.  No English is used, the course is language immersion, which has been shown to be the fastest way for anyone to learn a new language.  These films represent "the Capretz Method," invented and presented by Pierre Capretz.

The main character is a lovely young nineteen year old woman, Mireille Bealleau, played by Valérie Allain.  Mireille sometimes goes bra-less and sometimes shows her very nice legs, and thus provides an erotic element for male students of French.  According to McCain, some Yale students complained about this back in the 1980's, calling it "sexist."

I watched the one You-Tube video McCain posted and found it quite helpful for actually learning French, and unlike at McCain, "learning French" as used here is not merely a pseudonym for "ogling beautiful young Valérie Allain."  I went to You-Tube and found that all fifty of the series have been posted there.  I was even able to download the pdf version of the book that accompanies this course.

Last night I watched the first six episodes of the series.  They were a great refresher on basic French, and I learned a few things I didn't know.  Even more remarkable, they attuned my ear to better understand spoken French.  I understand French fairly well in written form, but not in spoken form.  This series will undoubtedly improve my understanding of the latter.  I will continue to watch and listen until I exhaust all the available videos.

Here is the introductory video (No. 1 in the series) for those interested.

Spanish Language Blog Honors Stogie

Aw shucks!  (Blush)

For some time now, I have been reading, linking and referring to the Spanish language blog El Opinador Compulsivo.  I learned of their existence from The Other McCain, and since I have been learning Spanish, I was immediately interested.  I visited El Opinador Compulsivo and found the blog to be intriguing, funny, interesting and of a like mind with me politically.  They run very interesting photographs of movie scenes and movie sets, as well as a bit of cheesecake, all of which adds to the visual beauty of the site.

And it's almost all in Spanish.  As I noted before, the Spanish on this blog is deep, written by educated writers, and a challenge for a novice (like me) to interpret.

El Opinador Compulsivo has 18 writers from Buenos Aires (15), Quebec (1), Madrid (1) and Claremont, California (1).

Today the hombres there noticed me noticing them, and we have officially become friends.  They posted this tribute to me here -- see graphic above.  The Spanish reads: "Recommended",  "The blog of our new friend, Stogie." and at the bottom, "Give him a visit, he is already in our sidebar (in the Great Satan links)."

As for their English description of me, wow, these guys know me well already!

Pat Condell Articulates Hard Truths: the Middle East Conflict is Religious, Not Political

Pat Condell is a Brit who is righteously critical of Islam and tells the unvarnished truth in his recent video:  the Middle East Conflict is a religious war, not a political one.  Islam's basic tenets are that Muslims must hate and kill all Jews that refuse to submit to dhimmitude (and even then, must kill them all before the Last Day before the Judgment).

There is no other outcome that will appease the Muslims of the Middle East.  There is no political solution.  A Palestinian state won't stop the Muslim aggression against Israel.  The only possibility for peace is for Muslims to either abandon or greatly moderate their hateful and murderous religion.

The Principal Problem of Western Europe

This writer describes the spoiled brats of Western Europe, but his description also applies to those in the Occupy Movement as well.

New generations grew within the culture of rights and went to a school that taught them that life was a game and they didn't have to worry much about the future, because there is someone, the welfare state, which is responsible for their prosperity. These are the outraged, those weaned brats that we see today in the cities of Western Europe, asking for rights that nobody can give them. They are the major victims of the empty promises of the welfare state and their disappointment is manifest, as well as their growing frustration. They were born under the syndrome of the free lunch and the progress secured (by others), and their mental dullness prevents them from understanding such obvious things as every right has a cost, and that cost is called duty, hard and daily effort, personal responsibility and willingness to innovative.

By Mauricio Rojas -- Author of another rightest blog in Spanish (and one that I will add to my sidebar now).

Translated into English from an article at El Opinado Compulsivo.

The photo is interesting and funny, but really hasn't much to do with the article!  (I don't know about you, but  I want these monkeys as part of my landscaping!)

Insane Leftists Suspend Six Year Old for Pointing a Finger Like a Gun

The Left is insane.  They are completely bonkers, nuts, crazy and weird.

The Washington Compost has the story:
The parents of a 6-year-old Silver Spring boy are fighting the first-grader’s suspension from a Montgomery County public school for pointing his finger like a gun and saying “pow,” an incident school officials characterized in a disciplinary letter as a threat “to shoot a student.”

The first-grader was suspended for one day, Dec. 21. The family’s attorney filed an appeal Wednesday, asking that the incident be expunged from the boy’s school record amid concerns of long-term fallout.
EEEEEK!  He's Got Fingers!
Note to Leftists:  a finger is not a gun.  It cannot be loaded.  It cannot fire bullets.  In the old days, we used to call such incidents "playing."  I even had semi-realistic mock-ups of guns -- cap guns and squirt guns.  If someone brought one of those to this idiotic school, perhaps he would be convicted of a felony and imprisoned for years to come.

I have to wonder about the motivations of the school administrators for such unhinged behavior (on their part).  Did they do this because they are prone to gross overreaction and have no sense of proportion? Are they unhinged fanatics with absolutely no judgment?

Or did they do this to instill in the minds of school children that guns are so evil and terrible, that one cannot even pretend to fire one, lest he be arrested as a potential terrorist?  This would seem to be brainwashing children to become the docile adults necessary for mindless obedience to Big Brother.

Note to Parents:  Get your kids out of public school.  Stop the brainwashing!  If you can't afford private school, home school.

Department of Homeland Security Preparing for Civil War?

The Department of Homeland Security -- Why Is It Buying Millions of Hollow Point Rounds?

It sounds incredible -- on second thought, not so incredible anymore -- that the Department of Home Security is preparing for a civil war or an economic collapse.  One website claims the DHS has purchased over a billion hollow point rounds of ammunition.  The site further claims that international law prohibits the use of hollow points by the military, and that they can only be used domestically.  Putting two and two together, one might conclude that the DHS is preparing for civil war.  See their video here.

The same video documents the massive public purchases of firearms following Obama's re-election, as well as massive buying of ammunition.  Many Americans appear to be preparing for a civil war as well....as rebels.  Much of the public instinctively knows a great internal conflict is coming and want to be ready.

The same website claims that the Illinois State legislature is planning to ram through a state law banning all firearms from the state, with confiscation to follow.

The Signs Are There:  the Federal Government Has Become a Threat to Liberty

More and more, our federal government appears to be plotting to end our freedoms and impose a form of fascism on the country.  Obama's re-election has emboldened the Left, and they appear to be seizing an historic opportunity to transform the United States into a socialist/fascist tyranny.  They have been at this for decades, but previously were content with a slow gradualism of transformation, a subtle pollution of the zeitgeist.  The metaphor most often quoted for this is "boiling the frog."  If you drop a frog into a pan of boiling water (the theory goes), it will immediately jump out to save itself.  However, if you increase the heat a degree at a time, the frog will be cooked before it realizes the danger.

We seem to be moving from slowly increasing the heat to microwaving the frog.  Feinstein's fascist gun confiscation bill is proof.  Obama, a radical punk, continues his destruction of the economy and forcing many more citizens onto the welfare rolls, making them dependents of the state.  A New York Times Op-Ed this week advocated ending the Constitution of the United States so that government politicians can do whatever they like.

A few months ago, a military magazine carried an article advising the military on how to prepare for and fight an internal insurrection -- a civil war.  Of course, that eventuality will be moot if the populace is disarmed and unable to fight.  In any case, statists are recognizing the possibility of civil war.

Time to Bring Back the Militias?

I believe it is time to bring back the militias, and to support them and fund them.  Under Bill Clinton's regime, many concerned citizens feared the destruction of their rights, and formed unofficial and unrecognized militias.  Militias were groups of armed men who practiced target shooting together and even trained together in military tactics.  They held meetings and discussed survival tactics and techniques.  These militia members saw themselves as the "unorganized militia," as provided for in Title 10, Subtitle A, Chapter 13 -- United States Code.

The Left did its usual slander job on the militias following Timothy McVeigh's bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma.  McVeigh was not a member of any militia, nor was he acting from any philosophy or dogma put out by the militias.  Nevertheless, the Left successfully tainted the reputation of the militias, and hung the McVeigh albatross around militia members' necks.  Now when you mention "militias," many people automatically envision mass murderer Timothy McVeigh.

In spite of this, it's time to bring these militias back.  The threat of an oppressive, unconstitutional federal government is now greater than ever.  Once gun confiscation begins in mass, it will be time to fight.  We cannot give up our guns meekly.

Will the Military Step In, and If So, Whose Side Will They Take?

The U.S. Military is largely patriotic, loyal and conservative.  If civil war breaks out, will they support the federal usurpers, or will they support the Constitution and the people?  Aren't the military sworn to oppose all enemies, foreign and domestic?  If there is a domestic enemy, will they consider that enemy us, or the Democrats in office?  What about Posse Comitatus?

Since the Obama and the Democrats are already busily dismantling all of our constitutional protections, why should the Military be any different?  Military leaders should privately think on these awful possibilities, and what their reaction will be in the event of civil war.  Instead of becoming an arm of tyranny, they could become the sword of liberty, by deposing an out-of-control, leftist tyranny.

"Les Miserables": Republicans Man the Barricades Against the Monarchists, 1832

The June Rebellion, Paris, 1832
Yesterday my wife and I went to see the musical version of Les Miserables, a famous novel by French author Victor Hugo, written in 1862.  Over the years, the novel has been presented in plays, operas and films.  Normally, I don't care for musical representations of dramatic historical events.  I prefer to see the famous personages and actors portraying events realistically, rather than singing their way through wars and riots and famines.

The current musical film of Les Miserables was not an exception for me.  Most of the singing was simple tunes to convey daily events of French life in 1832 -- not terribly memorable. The major exception was when Fantine, a poor single mother, resorts to prostitution in order to support her young daughter, Cosette.  Fantine, played by Anne Hathaway, sings "I Dreamed a Dream," a worthy composition.  (Hathaway's version can be heard here, although Susan Boyle did a much better job of it here, creating quite a sensation when she did so.)

I will say that the musical does touch on many, if not all, of the major plot devices of the novel and is a fair representation of Hugo's work.  Further, its attention to authentic historical detail is remarkable.  See here for examples.

French Uniform
Les Miserables
French Uniform,
Actual
Les Miserables has a scene from 1832 when citizens of Paris create barricades in the center of Paris and fight the French National Guard.  Eventually, the rebels are wiped out, after courageously fighting off National Guard attacks.  The National Guard waves the French tricolor flag, but the rebels wave red flags.  This bothered me, because the red flags looked identical to those of the Communist revolutions.  Was this historical fact, or was Hollywood trying to associate this citizen revolt with later Communist revolutions, perhaps to convey upon the latter an undeserved righteousness?  I decided to find out and went to the web to see what was going on in France in 1832 -- and if there was such an incident in real life.  I learned that there was.

The street fighting portrayed in Les Miserables was an actual event, known as the June Rebellion.  France had been marked by two major opposing forces since the guillotine executions of Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette, in 1793:  the monarchists (or royalists) and various other groups, i.e. the radicals, the socialists, the Bonapartists, the republicans.  The former supported the monarchy, or rule by a king, and the others, rule by a parliament or other form of democratic government (more or less).  The republicans were supported by the Marquis de Lafayette, the French hero who supported the United States in its war for independence.

I can't say the republicans were "the good guys," since it is all a bit more complicated (real life often is); but they had a point.  The time for monarchies was passing into history and people were looking for a better alternative.  The French working class in 1832 were angry because of rising prices and food shortages.  In addition, thousands of citizens had died from a cholera epidemic.  Since germs were not understood, conspiracy theories abounded, especially the notion that the Royalists were poisoning the wells to finish off the working class.  All of these factors provided the atmosphere for yet another rebellion against the existing order.  Wikipedia explains:
The republicans were led by secret societies formed of the most determined members of their movement.[4] The secret societies planned to provoke riots similar to those that had led to the 1830 July Rebellion against the ministers of Charles X.[4] The "Society for the Rights of Man" was one of the most instrumental. It was organized like an army, divided into sections of twenty members each (to evade the law that forbade the association of more than twenty persons), with a president and vice president for each section.[4]

The republicans made their move at the public funeral of the popular General Lamarque on June 5. Groups of republicans took charge of the cortege and directed it to the Place de la Bastille. They were reinforced by Polish, Italian, and German refugees, who had fled to Paris in the aftermath of crackdowns on republican and nationalist activities in their homelands, as well as by workers and local youth. They gathered around the catafalque on which the body rested. Speeches were made about Lamarque's support for Polish and Italian liberty, of which he was a strong advocate in the months before his death. When a member of the crowd waved a red flag bearing the words "Liberty or Death", the crowd broke into rebellion and shots were exchanged with government troops.[2]Marquis de Lafayette, who had given a speech in praise of Lamarque, called for calm, but the disorder spread.[7]

An insurrection began which for one night made the insurgents masters of the eastern districts of Paris. However, the rebellion failed to spread. In the night national guard forces were reinforced by 25,000 regular army troops who pacified the peripheral districts of the capital. The insurgents made their stronghold in the Faubourg Saint-Martin, in the historic city center. They constructed barricades in the narrow streets around the Rue Saint-Martin and Rue Saint-Denis. On the morning of June 6 the last rebels were surrounded at the intersection of rue Saint-Martin and Saint-Merry. At this point Louis-Philippe decided to show himself in the streets to confirm that he was still in control of the capital.[8] The final struggle came at the Cloître Saint-Merry (June 5–6),[4], which resulted in about 800 casualties. Anyone who continued to fight was shot immediately. The army and national guard lost 73 killed, 344 wounded; on the insurgent side there were 93 killed and 291 wounded.[1] The forces of the insurrection were spent.[6]
And the red flags depicted in the film?  Apparently, a true representation of historical fact as noted in the above quote.

Conclusions:  The musical film of Les Miserables is true to Hugo's novel as well as to historical fact, an unusual occurrence in Hollywood, to be sure. Now I better understand the forces in play that are depicted in this famous tale.

Update:  I was also curious as to the authenticity of the French uniforms of the time period and discovered that the film's representation was accurate. (I so enjoy authenticity in films about historical events.) I added the above graphics of French soldiers, one as presented in the film, the other as the actual uniform.  See also here, of three actor-soldiers taking a snooze on the set of Les Mis.  More scenes from the film can be viewed here.  Also, there are a couple of books available that illustrate French uniforms from different periods of French history, and actual uniforms on display at the Army Museum in Les Invalides (where Napoleon is entombed) in Paris.

Institute for Policy Studies Celebrates 50 Years of Internal Subversion

The Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. is a far-left organization that has initiated, supported and celebrated communist subversion of the US for the past fifty years.  Trevor Loudon of New Zeal writes:
For half a century IPS has been one of the most subversive and destructive organizations in the US.

Both domestically and internationally IPS has been pushing its leftist agenda relentlessly.

From the extreme wing of the civil rights movement, to the feminist and gay rights movements, the anti South Africa campaigns, the anti military movements, anti corporate campaigns, right through to the Occupy Movement, IPS has had its thumbprint on virtually every major subversive movement in the last five decades.

New York Times Op-Ed Raises Some Interesting Possibilities for Conservatives

Some forward thinker at the New York Times has written an op-ed column stating that it is time to get rid of the U.S. Constitution.  Then and only then can progressives carry out plans to turn the once greatest nation in the world into a banana republic and socialist tyranny.

The great thinker in question, one Louis Michael Seidman, writes:
As someone who has taught constitutional law for almost 40 years, I am ashamed it took me so long to see how bizarre all this is. Imagine that after careful study a government official — say, the president or one of the party leaders in Congress — reaches a considered judgment that a particular course of action is best for the country. Suddenly, someone bursts into the room with new information: a group of white propertied men who have been dead for two centuries, knew nothing of our present situation, acted illegally under existing law and thought it was fine to own slaves might have disagreed with this course of action. Is it even remotely rational that the official should change his or her mind because of this divination?
Hey, Seditious Seidman may have a point.  How many times have you wanted to firebomb the presses of the New York Times?  Unfortunately, there's this pesky First Amendment that makes it illegal.  With no more Constitution, we can exercise lawless, mob action to do what is undoubtedly correct:  shutting up the traitors among us.

Some other possibilities:
  1. Making it illegal for anyone to be a leftist.
  2. Outlawing the Democrat Party.
  3. Outlawing labor unions.
  4. Licensing all print and broadcast media and enforcing a code of conduct, i.e., to promote, support and celebrate capitalism, traditional marriage, free markets, laissez-faire economics, and to oppose, denigrate and ridicule socialism, collectivism, and smelly hippies.  Those who fail to support the code of conduct will have their licenses to publish canceled and subject to arrest and summary execution.
  5. Mass firing of all college professors who are leftists, communists, Marxists, progressives or Democrats (I realize that those categories widely overlap).  Michael Savage will be appointed education czar and will have the responsibility of hiring all university professors.
  6. Mass deportation of all Muslims and illegal immigrants.
  7. Outlawing rap music.
  8. Outlawing facial studs and tattoos.
  9. Legally recognizing abortion as murder and practitioners thereof subject to summary execution.
There's a point to my madness.  The Constitution even protects the unworthy, like Seidman and the publishers of the New York Times.

And now a warning to "progressives" everywhere:  We will fight in the streets, if necessary, to preserve the Constitution.  We do not accept the seditious transformation of our country into a socialist tyranny.  Do not underestimate us.
