Damn Those White Racists

The GOP's Brilliant Strategy to Lose Elections

The latest brilliant strategy we are seeing from Yankee Republicans is to diss Southern Republicans.  The former does this to the latter by joining in the feeding frenzy on everything Confederate.  We see Pajamas Media running well-worn myths about the Glorious North vs the Evil South, Branco Cartoons giving the GOP credit for removing the flag in South Carolina, and common memes of how Republicans are Civil Rights Crusaders from way back, and "racism" is hard-wired in the brains of Southerners and Democrats.

Idiotic Republican Assertions:
1.  The GOP has always been passionately in favor of racial equality, and therefore blacks should vote for the GOP.
2.  Democrats are the Party of Slavery.  That's why the Confederates were overwhelmingly Democrats prior to the Civil War.
3.  Republicans are all in favor of eliminating Confederate flags, monuments, memorials, plaques and street names, wherever they are found.  This policy will make blacks vote for the GOP and the Republicans will have a near-permanent majority throughout the United States.

Idiotic Democrat Assertions:
The Solid South switched from being a Democrat majority region to a Repubican one because of RACISM.  The Southerners knew they could continue hating and persecuting black people with the blessings of the GOP, because the Democrats would never stand for such bigotry.

Some Common Sense to the Above:
1.  The early Republican Party billed itself as "the White People's Party."  The early GOP wanted to keep slavery (meaning, all blacks, slave or free) out of the new territories.  This was not because they cared about the slaves, but because they despised black people as a pariah race and didn't want to live with them.  The Republicans and Lincoln had no inclination to make social and political equals of blacks, and stated so publicly.

2.  Of course Southerners were Democrats prior to the war.  The Republican Party was a new, sectional party, pledged to the welfare of the North against the South, as opposed to the welfare of the country as a whole.  The GOP wanted to increase the tariff that fell so heavily on the Southern states, to make improvements and pay for corporate welfare in the North.  Why would anyone sane vote for a party that wanted to tax them to death?

3. Modern Republicans may think it's a winning strategy to piss on the Confederate graves of Southerners, but those Southerners are overwhelmingly Republicans.  Many of them will just stay home on election day, rather than vote for a Republican grave-pisser.  So we have Northern Republicans alienating white Southerners, who vote Republican, to curry favor with blacks, who vote for Democrats.  Brilliant!  This is a great strategy for electing Hillary Clinton.  Way to go, guys.

4.  The Democrats are not "the Party of Slavery."  Slavery was introduced into America by the British, before there was a United States and before there was a Democratic Party.  The generation of 1860 had inherited the system of slavery and it was entrenched into the economy and life of the South.  There was no easy way to get rid of it.

5.   Southerners voted Democrat for many years after the war, because there was just no way they would ever vote for the Party of Lincoln.  However, as the Democratic Party gradually transformed into the Party of Socialism, High Taxes and Big Government, Southerners made the switch.  Southerners, being very patriotic Americans who value personal liberty and small government, realized that the modern  GOP was much more aligned with their views than the modern  Democrats.  They made the switch for good reasons, not for "racist" ones as the modern Democrats would have you believe.

Zo of "ZoNation" is a Flaming Ignoramus on the Civil War

Zo, an alleged black conservative for Pajamas Media, has been shooting his mouth off again about the Confederate flag.  He even went so far as to denigrate Anthony Hervey, a black supporter of the Confederate flag and Confederate history, who was killed last week by other blacks, who like Zo, are ignorant and intolerant of Confederate history.

Zo's sophomoric arguments fall along these lines (my brief rebuttals are highlighted):

1.  The Confederates were Democrats
      (You had to be a U.S. citizen to be a Democrat.  Confederates did not qualify.)
2.  Democrats believed in slavery and the "right to own other human beings."
(Yankees, and Whigs, who became the Republicans, believed in the right to own slaves too.  They proved it by buying and working slaves in Northern states and by selling millions of slaves to other countries.  Zo, like many of the historically illiterate, seem to think that only the South owned slaves.  Not even close.)
3.  The Confederate flag is a Democrat flag.
(The Democratic Party did not create the Confederate flag.  The statement is erroneous and asinine.)

Zo is not the only person spouting this nonsense.  A lot of so-called Republicans are saying the same kinds of things.  They seem not to realize that millions of modern Confederate supporters are Republicans, and very few are Democrats.  Modern Democrats, on the other hand, are leading the charge to ban all Confederate symbols, flags and monuments.  They are opposed by Southern Republicans.  For example, the governor and legislature of North Carolina are Republican controlled, and those Republicans passed laws this past week to protect Confederate monuments from Democrat eradication.  The very Democrat-loyal NAACP complained and are threatening a demonstration.

In Georgia, it is Democrats who are insisting on erasing the Confederate figures from Stone Mountain, and who are planning to make it a campaign issue in the next election.

So Zo, it appears that for today, in the modern world, the Confederate flag is a REPUBLICAN flag.  Read it and weep, sweetie.

Note to the NAACP: Don't Like Confederate Symbols? Tough -- Live With It

We all have to live with things we don't like -- strange customs, religions and beliefs.  Recently in the U.K., a Cafe owner was told to suppress the smell of cooking bacon because it offended Muslims living in the area.  Now the majority of Brits are not offended by the smell of cooking bacon, but the authorities insist that majority sensibilities take a back seat to a perpetually hostile, angry and demanding minority.  Hmm, now what does this remind me of?

You guessed it:  it reminds me of the NAACP and "Black Lives Matter" fanatics who think the world and everything in it is "all about them."  They, like the British Muslims, are a perpetually hostile, angry and demanding minority.  They insist that the majority of Southerners or even the majority of Americans, suppress their traditions, culture and sensibilities to the minority's preferences and biases.  As a result, all Confederate flags, monuments, paintings, songs -- and even graves -- must be ruthlessly suppressed, lest black people see them and be turned into pillars of salt.

Well too damn bad.  We all have to live with things we don't like.  It is necessary in a pluralistic society with people of many backgrounds and tastes.  For example, I hate seeing Abraham Lincoln's ugly mug on the five dollar bill and his picture in schools and public offices.  I am outraged that the greatest flouter of the Constitution in American history is hailed as a hero instead of the consummate tyrant that he was in real life.

I also don't like to see "Butcher" Grant's ugly face on the fifty dollar bill. I believe both Lincoln and Grant's images should be banned from the public square and not afforded any official recognition or respect.  It's okay, however, if private individuals want to display these cretins on private property.  For now, I will give Grant a pass on his grave site.  We won't dig him and his wife up anytime soon -- but keep those shovels sharp and ready, just in case.  One good "turn" deserves another.

Yes, we all have to put up with things we don't like.  And I really don't like the NAACP.  Truth be told, I'm not that crazy about Muslims either (imagine, not liking bacon!).

Who Gets to Define the Meaning of the Confederate Flag?

"The right to define the meaning of the Confederate Battle Flag or any flag belongs to those who by their history and shed blood own its heritage. Radical and lawless groups often display the United States flag, but this does not change its true meaning to fair-minded people. Nor should fair-minded people rightly associate the Confederate Battle Flag with evil because the very same groups expropriate and display it. Groups such as the NAACP and SPLC have no right to define the meaning of Confederate flags any more than the French have the right to define the meaning of the Italian flag or any flag but their own. Redefining and slandering someone else’s heritage and symbols is incredibly arrogant and stirs up needless strife. Honorable people pursuing a just and civil society do not seek to dishonor and marginalize the heritage and symbols of others."

"Reflecting Light": When Darby Gets Pissed, Posers Get Dissed - and Hilarity Ensues!

Bono stood on the stage in front of an audience, doing what I have come to learn is his standard holier-than-thou poseur's act. There was dead silence except for Bono repeatedly slapping his hands together. "Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies," he said solemnly.

Voice from the audience: "Well, then, stop fuckin' doin' it!"

Ha! Rick Darby writes at Reflecting Light blog, and when he gets pissed, someone else gets dissed -- and deservedly so. Today he takes to task Daniel Greenfield of Sultan Knish blog, who is an excellent expository writer that regularly defends Israel and takes it to the Muslims who hate everybody -- but who will not allow any mention of the ongoing black intifada against Whites, Asians and Hispanics across the country.

He then turns his sights on Baron Bodissey and his associate Dymphna, two people who created the anti-jihad blog, Gates of Vienna. Rick feels that Baron is too snobbish in his allowance of comments, and deleted the Bono post italicized above, and then banned Rick from commenting at all.

The NAACP-Fueled Hatred Grows: Will There Be Blood?

Thanks to the nation's premiere racial-hate group, the NAACP, the South is now a powder keg of pent up emotions.  A group of black men stuck a shovel into Nathan Bedford Forrest's grave this week, dug up part of the grass near the grave, and said they would be back with a backhoe to dig the general up.  A Confederate descendant saw the vandalism on the news, and drove hundreds of miles to replace the grass.

In Arkansas, Confederate tombstones were toppled and many broken, in a historic cemetery, resulting in thousands of dollars of damage.  Confederate monuments were vandalized, including one in a cemetery (see photo left).

Do we have to start citizens' committees to guard our Confederate dead?  If so, let the guards be armed, and the vandals forewarned:  if we catch you desecrating graves and vandalizing monuments to our Confederate dead...there may be blood and it could be yours.  Do not tempt fate; people are very angry and emotions are high.

This young Confederate soldier is wearing  a kepi hat and a frock coat (a long coat).  The epaulets on his shoulders indicates an early war uniform.  The color of the trim might have been blue, designating infantry. (Red was for artillery, yellow for cavalry).

You can see his bayonet scabbard on the left side of the picture (his right).  The white strap that extends from his left shoulder to his right waist holds his haversack.  A haversack was a square bag used to hold miscellaneous items and supplies.

Enemies: Max Boot and Jeff Jacoby Vomit Hatred Towards the South; Time to Ditch the GOP?

Two alleged conservative writers, Max Boot and Jeff Jacoby, have written hateful and extremist views about the Confederacy, its heroes and its flags.  Both show unfathomable ignorance of history, as well as extreme cultural intolerance to those who value Southern heritage.  Rhetorically, they are pissing on the graves of our ancestors and advancing disunity and resentment among their own base.

Reading their screeds makes it feel like Sherman's march to the sea all over again, destruction of people and property in its path; or the burning of Atlanta just for Yankee spite, or the many war crimes against Southern civilians in 1861 - 1865.

They hate our guts.  There is one problem.

They are Republicans, and the overwhelming majority of Confederate-Americans are also Republicans.  I have been a lifelong Republican, and the anti-Confederate hysteria over the past three weeks has shaken my political loyalties to the core.  I am willing to jettison the GOP, who no longer seem the party of freedom to me.  They seem the party of hate and oppression and brute force, the thugs in blue uniforms with their giant mortars and cannons and bummers with lighted torches.  Having once burned and looted our cities, farms, private homes and even our universities, they want to complete the job by desecrating the graves of our dead.

For the upcoming elections of 2016, we Confederate-Americans can do one of three things.  We can vote for Donald Trump, not because he supports Confederate heritage, but because he isn't a knee-jerk mainstream, backstabbing Republican.  Let us use Trump as a way of getting even for the recent attacks on our heritage.

A second alternative is simply to sit out the next presidential election, and let nature take its course.  There are around 16 million Americans of Confederate descent, and many more who identify with Southern symbols and flags from living in the South.  These are the people who make up the "Solid South," whose support is essential for a GOP win in 2016.  If the GOP excludes us from America, we can remove ourselves as voters, at least temporarily.  Time to put the fear of God into the Party of Lincoln.

Rather than sit out the election, however, I would suggest a third alternative, writing in the name of Democrat Jim Webb of Virginia, who supports Confederate heritage.  Jim Webb is a conservative Democrat and would make a fine president.

Another Black SCV Member Stands Proudly for Dixie and His Confederate Ancestor

Tyrone Williams is not offended by the Battle Flag! His ancestor fought with the 16th South Carolina and he's very proud of it. Tyrone has Dixie as a ringtone on his telephone and a Confederate flag license tag on his pickup truck. He is a 'hard-core' Confederate of Camp 1857 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Folks don't mess with him because he's a retired deputy federal marshal, packs heat and is 6'2". God bless Tyrone for taking a stand!

Black veteran, a 'Son of the South,' defends the Confederate flag

Mr. Daniels wrote a guest opinion for All Alabama, AL.COM, in which he defends the Confederacy and its flag, and tells of his own personal journey from animosity to admiration.  His well written and heartfelt essay should be read and appreciated by every Son and Daughter of the South.

He writes:

The removal of a historical banner won't stop racists from exercising bigotry. As a matter of fact, racists will be racists despite regulations and constant "feel good" legislation, no flag needed. The ignorance of the disgruntled protestors is evident in their refusal to acknowledge that the flag widely recognized as the "Confederate Flag" was never actually adopted as the flag of the Confederacy. They'll also never admit or realize that not only was slavery not the motivating factor for the ensuing civil war, but that slavery was an American institution, not a Confederate one.

The Confederacy, in its prime, never mounted the atrocities of the Trail of Tears or the Black Hills conspiracy. But it seems that all because a few cowards in bedsheets once hijacked the gorgeous colors of a banner so rich in history to terrorize and intimidate other Americans, we condemn the Southern cloth to oblivion as a misnamed symbol of hate. It doesn't matter that slaves outside of the declared boundaries remained enslaved in the North. Neither does it matter that many Southerners gave up plots of their property to house and provide compensable labor for black workers. It doesn't matter that Lincoln, who is often regarded as the liberator of enslaved blacks cared less for the welfare of slaves than for the sovereignty of an entire country.

Confederate Quote of the Day: Allistair Cooke on the Right of Secession

The monumental serenity and gentleness of Lee have provoked many sentimental plays and reams of idolatrous prose.  But there might be a fine play in the second moral – and political – conflict he had to resolve:  that of never drawing his sword ‘save in defense’ and yet accepting the command of the Southern forces.  In any case, he went back to Virginia to fight for a principle that, ironically, Lincoln himself had enunciated better than anyone, thirteen years before Secession.  “Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better.’

The nub of the conflict between North and South was the definition of ‘any people, anywhere’ (how about the people of Virginia?).  To Lincoln, it came to mean exclusively ‘the people’ of the United States.  The South took him at his earlier word and presumed that any region as closely knit by culture and economics as the South could claim to be a ‘people’ free to assert the right of self-determination.  But Lincoln, in his first proclamation of the war, had declared the ‘combination’ of the Southern states to be illegal.  And to this day, the historians and popular sentiment have overwhelmingly agreed with him.  Yet, it seems to me, we have all been bedazzled by the Gettysburg Address, a small masterpiece of rhetoric of very dubious logic.  Its most famous phrase is very close to political nonsense.  Quite apart from the anarchy implied in any government ‘by the People,’ there remains the ticklish question of how many people or states or ethnic minorities constitute a ‘people’ who may justly wish to govern themselves.  Woodrow Wilson held no such bland assumptions about the whole being more sovereign than its parts when he created nations out of ethnic minorities yearning to be free of government by the Austro-Hungarian empire.  I’m afraid we must conclude, with Justice Holmes, that the winner is always right.

Here is Southron Brother Anthony Hervey's last speech, just before he died. He was killed driving home after the rally, when his pickup truck was run off the road by a group of black men -- possibly NAACP members or black panthers.  His passenger survived the crash.

Anthony Hervey, Black Pro-Confederate Activist, Killed in Car Crash; Ran Off the Road by Unknown Assailants

Anthony Hervey, a black pro-Confederate activist, was killed Saturday when his truck was run off the road by anti-flaggers, possibly Black Panthers, after speaking at a pro-Confederate flag rally.

Arlene Barnum, a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army and Republican activist who supports the Confederate battle flag, burned her lifetime membership card to the NAACP at a multi-racial unity rally to save the Linn Park Confederate Monument in Birmingham, Alabama, Saturday. After the rally, however, Barnum was injured in an accident when the truck she was in rolled over after reportedly being chased, Save Our South public relations spokesperson Jonathan Barbee told Examiner.com Sunday.

Arlene Barunum survived the crash, but was hospitalized.

At a recent confederate flag rally, a woman going by the name ‘ArleneArmy’ on Twitter burned her lifetime membership NAACP card, partly due to their ignorant stance on the confederate battle flag.

Arlene said she was motivated to quit the NAACP after reading an article about the NAACP desiring to have heroes from the confederacy removed from the side of the mountain in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Arlene was nice enough to include the recent video of her burning her NAACP life membership card as well.

Black Member of Sons of Confederate Veterans says "The War Between the States WAS NOT about Slavery"

Al McCray is a black member of the Judah P. Benjamin Camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans, located in Tampa, Florida.  Compatriot McCray (we members of the Sons call each other "compatriot") sounds just like any one of us in his defense of the Confederacy. McCray said:

"I understand the true nature of the war, and slavery was not the primary issue," McCray said. "It was an issue of northern aggression and northern imperialism."

"I've always felt that way growing up in the south, that linking the flag to slavery and racism was just another way to keep division between the races. I always wondered why Lincoln didn't free the slaves his first day in office if he felt so strongly about it."

The article further quotes McCray:

Despite the recent outcry over the Confederate battle flag and its symbolism, McCray said he is confident there are other black Americans that share his views. The confederacy was multicultural during the war, and so is the Sons of Confederate Veterans, he said.

McCray's comments about the multicultural nature of the Confederacy is ironically demonstrated in the name of his Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp name:  Judah P. Benjamin was a devout Jew who was Secretary of State of the Confederate States of America.

I googled Al McCray, and he is the Managing Editor of the Tampa News.  We have more in common:  Al likes to wear fedoras and bow ties, as I do.  Al's bow tie in this pic contains the Confederate flag.  I like this guy...a lot.

Confederate Picture of the Day: After Fredericksburg, on the Rappahannock River

After the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Southern and Northern armies were separated from each other, on opposite sides of the Rappahannock river.  Some Northern photographer took a photo of Confederate soldiers on the other side.  The uniforms of the Confederates is very interesting -- basically, gray uniforms, shell jackets (short jackets that reach to the waist) with black slouch hats.  I have blown up the photo to see the soldiers better.  There is one soldier, probably an officer, wearing a frock coat (long, reaches to mid-thigh) with a double-row of buttons.

Huh? In Chicago, a Black Chapter of the Ku Klux Klan?

A group of black Christians have reportedly started a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan in Chicago.  The story sounds like something out of the satirical online newspaper, the Onion.

Here's a snippet of the Black Klan story:

Chicago – A group of black men from the South-side of Chicago have started a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, saying that local blacks have devastated the area.

Jerome Jenkins, who organized the group, stated, “this area has become a war zone and we are prepared to take back our streets. These pants-sagging delinquents have no respect for anyone, including themselves. We are good wholesome Christian men, who agreed with the message being delivered by the KKK. These hood-dwellers need to be taken down a notch. We’ve held daily prayer for these streets for years, but God is taking too long — I believe he wants us to take action. We are calling on all members of this ravaged community to join our cause. Fight against these people, stand with the KKK, and bring the black race back to a time when we were respected.”

This is great.  Now the Southern Poverty Law Center will embrace the Klan and praise it for its diversity.  More importantly, now I can go ahead with my plans to start a white chapter of the New Black Panthers, and beat up white people who wear their pants too low, take drugs and vote for Democrats.

The Confederate Flag is the Banner of Liberty and Resistance to Tyranny

Well no, it has always been a symbol of liberty -- and self rule, self-determination -- and that has been recognized in all parts of the globe.

Nevertheless, the above linked article is well worth the read.  Some great quotes:

Megyn Kelly, Fox News Anchor writes: People say constantly that Lincoln “saved” the Union. Lincoln didn’t save the Union; he subjugated the Union. There is a huge difference. A union that is not voluntary is not a union.

The author, Eric Retzlaff, adds these comments:

The idea that the states are sovereign nations that freely created, for their common good, a national government with limited delegated powers and that the states could resist and nullify unconstitutional federal actions or even secede, as the colonies broke from Great Britain–this was lost when the South was crushed. These United States became the United States, which has grown into an increasingly liberal, immoral and tyrannical monster.

Against this un-American impulse, the Rev. Dr. James David Manning of the Christian ATLAH Worldwide Ministries, a black minister, recently predicted (prophesied?), with his powerful preaching skills, the South as the salvation of the Union from liberal dictatorship. If this is the new South, then where is the South, only below the Mason-Dixon line? No, it’s everywhere.

Now wouldn’t it be ironic if the Confederate flag became the symbol of freedom and rebellion against tyranny?

It is appalling how many Americans are totally ignorant of the North's enormous contribution to the introduction and growth of slavery in the United States.  Ignoramuses of all stripes assail the South with great derision and contempt, as "a people who believed in right to own other human beings."  The implication is, of course, that the North was different.  It wasn't.

For 200 years, New England Yankees bought, worked and sold African slaves, with nary a second thought.  For every slave the Yankee slave merchants sold to the South, they sold 20 more to Cuba, Brazil and the West Indies.

I have found two websites that explore and document the North's extensive involvement in slavery.  One of them is "Slavery In The North."  It is not a pro-South or pro-Confederate website, and there is no Southern bias that is obvious.  It appears to be objective history.

This is from the website's Introduction:

African slavery is so much the outstanding feature of the South, in the unthinking view of it, that people often forget there had been slaves in all the old colonies. Slaves were auctioned openly in the Market House of Philadelphia; in the shadow of Congregational churches in Rhode Island; in Boston taverns and warehouses; and weekly, sometimes daily, in Merchant's Coffee House of New York. Such Northern heroes of the American Revolution as John Hancock and Benjamin Franklin bought, sold, and owned black people. William Henry Seward, Lincoln's anti-slavery Secretary of State during the Civil War, born in 1801, grew up in Orange County, New York, in a slave-owning family and amid neighbors who owned slaves if they could afford them. The family of Abraham Lincoln himself, when it lived in Pennsylvania in colonial times, owned slaves.[1]

When the minutemen marched off to face the redcoats at Lexington in 1775, the wives, boys and old men they left behind in Framingham took up axes, clubs, and pitchforks and barred themselves in their homes because of a widespread, and widely credited, rumor that the local slaves planned to rise up and massacre the white inhabitants while the militia was away.[2]

African bondage in the colonies north of the Mason-Dixon Line has left a legacy in the economics of modern America and in the racial attitudes of the U.S. working class. Yet comparatively little is written about the 200-year history of Northern slavery. Robert Steinfeld's deservedly praised "The Invention of Free Labor" (1991) states, "By 1804 slavery had been abolished throughout New England," ignoring the 1800 census, which shows 1,488 slaves in New England. Recent archaeological discoveries of slave quarters or cemeteries in Philadelphia and New York City sometimes are written up in newspaper headlines as though they were exhibits of evidence in a case not yet settled (cf. �African Burial Ground Proves Northern Slavery,� The City Sun, Feb. 24, 1993).

I had written one book on Pennsylvania history and was starting a second before I learned that William Penn had been a slaveowner. The historian Joanne Pope Melish, who has written a perceptive book on race relations in ante-bellum New England, recalls how it was possible to read American history textbooks at the high school level and never know that there was such a thing as a slave north of the Mason-Dixon Line:

"In Connecticut in the 1950s, when I was growing up, the only slavery discussed in my history textbook was southern; New Englanders had marched south to end slavery. It was in Rhode Island, where I lived after 1964, that I first stumbled across an obscure reference to local slavery, but almost no one I asked knew anything about it. Members of the historical society did, but they assured me that slavery in Rhode Island had been brief and benign, involving only the best families, who behaved with genteel kindness. They pointed me in the direction of several antiquarian histories, which said about the same thing. Some of the people of color I met knew more."[3]

Slavery in the North never approached the numbers of the South. It was, numerically, a drop in the bucket compared to the South. But the South, comparatively, was itself a drop in the bucket of New World slavery. Roughly a million slaves were brought from Africa to the New World by the Spanish and Portuguese before the first handful reached Virginia. Some 500,000 slaves were brought to the United States (or the colonies it was built from) in the history of the slave trade, which is a mere fraction of the estimated 10 million Africans forced to the Americas during that period.

Every New World colony was, in some sense, a slave colony. French Canada, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Cuba, Brazil -- all of them made their start in an economic system built upon slavery based on race. In all of them, slavery enjoyed the service of the law and the sanction of religion. In all of them the master class had its moments of doubt, and the slaves plotted to escape or rebel.

Over time, slavery flourished in the Upper South and failed to do so in the North. But there were pockets of the North on the eve of the Revolution where slaves played key roles in the economic and social order: New York City and northern New Jersey, rural Pennsylvania, and the shipping towns of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Black populations in some places were much higher than they would be during the 19th century. More than 3,000 blacks lived in Rhode Island in 1748, amounting to 9.1 percent of the population; 4,600 blacks were in New Jersey in 1745, 7.5 percent of the population; and nearly 20,000 blacks lived in New York in 1771, 12.2 percent of the population.[4]

The North failed to develop large-scale agrarian slavery, such as later arose in the Deep South, but that had little to do with morality and much to do with climate and economy.

A Muslim Murders Four Marines in Chatanooga

A Muslim, possibly an agent of ISIS, has opened fire on military facilities in Chatanooga, Tennessee.  Four marines were killed, and several people were wounded, including a police officer.

The gunman was killed.

As I have said many times before, Islam is an irredeemably violent ideology that is incompatible with pluralistic democracies.  It is a religion whose holy writ requires its followers to murder or enslave non-believers.  Muslims, like cannibals, head-shrinkers, practitioners of human sacrifice and other barbarism, have no place in America.  All mosques should be shut down and Muslims here invited to leave.  All further Muslim immigration into the United States should cease immediately.

Is this discrimination?  Hell yes, it is rational discrimination.  I am all for it.

Confederate Quote of the Day: H.L. Mencken on The Gettysburg Address

H.L. Mencken, the famous muckraker and journalist, discussed the Lincoln myth and the Gettysburg Address back in 1922, in an essay called “Five Men at Random,” Prejudices: Third Series, 1922, pp. 171-76.

The Gettysburg speech is at once the shortest and the most famous oration in American history. Put beside it, all the whoopings of the Websters, Sumners and Everetts seem gaudy and silly. It is eloquence brought to a pellucid and almost child-like perfection—the highest emotion reduced to one graceful and irresistible gesture. Nothing else precisely like it is to be found in the whole range of oratory. Lincoln himself never even remotely approached it. It is genuinely stupendous.

But let us not forget that it is oratory, not logic; beauty, not sense. Think of the argument in it! Put it into the cold words of everyday! The doctrine is simply this: that the Union soldiers who died at Gettysburg sacrificed their lives to the cause of self-determination — “that government of the people, by the people, for the people,” should not perish from the earth. It is difficult to imagine anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in that battle actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves. 

 I love H.L. Mencken.  The man had guts, and was irreverent enough to tell the unvarnished truth.

Black Lady Defends the Confederacy and Its Flag (Video)

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A Chesterfield woman is Black and proud to display the Confederate flag. The Virginia Flagger is speaking out and challenging stereotypes.

"I'm sick and tired of my White Christian southern friends being attacked," said Karen Cooper. "People displaying a flag is not a problem."

She's outraged over the Confederate battle flag being taken down after 9 South Carolina church members were murdered at the hands of Dylann Roof, often pictured holding the flag.

"They are trying to pin the murder of 9 people on a flag," said Cooper. "This is an inanimate object. It is right here. It is not harming me. It's not calling me bad names. It's not telling me to go kill people."

Cooper rejects the suggestion the flag is a symbol of racism or defenders of slavery.

"That is to say that I support the Confederacy," said Cooper. "I actually believe in my heart that they were good men."

Karen says Confederate soldiers fought for state's rights. She says it was not about slavery. 

"'State's rights means my rights....White's rights...over yours,'" said former Richmond city councilman Marty Jewell of the message sent by Confederate flaggers. "And if anybody can come up with another descriptive I'll eat their hat. The forces waving that flag are always happy to find a fool...a fool who will say what they won't say themselves but has a Black face."

Jewell says he feels sorry for Cooper. 

"The poor thing," said Jewell. " We pray for her."

Cooper says she is accustomed to being called names. 

"That's okay. I will fight for your freedom to call me names," said Cooper. "That's what the First Amendment is all about. God forbid they make it a law, and I can't wear this. That's when I'm going to jail, and I'm going to be back in chains like my ancestors." 

Cooper says she plans to be buried with the Confederate flag.

Former NAACP president H.K. Edgerton also defended the Confederate flag after protesters spray-painted "Black Lives Matter" on a Confederate monument in Asheville, North Carolina.

Erasing Southern History: An Apt Quote from the Novel "1984"

In 1949, George Orwell published his famous novel predicting our Fascist future. The novel was titled Nineteen-Eighty Four (often referred to as simply 1984). Some of the quotes from that novel really remind me of the dark period through which we are now passing, where basic reality is rigorously denied and derided, and all human thought strictly pressured to conform to the state's official positions.  The quote below seems particularly real to Confederate descendants, particularly in light of the extreme cultural cleansing and historical revisionism now going on there.

Young Black Man Tells Why He Supports the Confederate Flag (Video)

In spite of this CNN interviewer's anti-flag bias and ignorance of history, this young descendant of a black Confederate refuses to accept her definition of the Confederate flag as a "racist symbol." There are many Southern blacks who identify with the Confederate flag, for the same reason many white Southerners do: it was the flag of our nation, and slavery and racism have nothing to do with it.

I pity from the bottom of my heart any nation or body of people that is so unfortunate as to get entangled in the net of slavery. I have long since ceased to cherish any [spirit] of bitterness against the Southern white people on account of the enslavement of my race. No one section of our country was wholly responsible for its introduction, and, besides, it was recognized and protected for years by the General Government. Having once got its tentacles fastened on to the economic and social life of the Republic, it was no easy matter for the country to relieve itself of the institution.  

Then, when we rid ourselves of prejudice, or racial feeling, and look facts in the face, we must acknowledge that, notwithstanding the cruelty and moral wrong of slavery, the ten million Negroes inhabiting this country, who themselves or whose ancestors went through the school of American slavery, are in a stronger and more hopeful condition, materially, intellectually, morally, and religiously, than is true of an equal number of black people in any other portion of the globe. This is so to such an extent that Negroes in this country, who themselves or whose forefathers went through the school of slavery, are constantly returning to Africa as missionaries to enlighten those who remained in the fatherland. This I say, not to justify slavery — on the other hand, I condemn it as an institution, as we all know that in America it was established for selfish and financial reasons, and not from a missionary motive — but to call attention to a fact, and to show how Providence so often uses men and institutions to accomplish a purpose.

Let's Get Rid of the NAACP, a Racist and Hateful Organization

The NAACP, smelling blood in the water, wants more flesh for its Confederate feeding frenzy. Today, the NAACP has called for sandblasting the sculpture of Confederate generals off the face of Stone Mountain in Georgia.  Why should an ignorant minority with a huge chip on its shoulder, be allowed to bully the majority?  Why should their profound ignorance be allowed to displace historical fact?

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was once a civil rights organization, formed to protect the rights and safety of black Americans.  Now that equal rights have long been achieved, the NAACP no longer has the burning purpose that once motivated its members.  Rather than disband as obsolete, the leaders of this organization continue to seek relevance (and money, prestige and power) by stoking the fires of racial hatred.  They do not seek racial harmony, understanding and peace, because such things undermine their purpose and reason to exist.  As former slave Booker T. Washington said:

There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.

He also stated:

I am afraid that there is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public.

Booker Washington's two statements describe the NAACP to a "T."  The NAACP thrives on racial strife, and do everything in their power to provoke it and extend it.  Without white resentment of blacks, they are out of business.

What better way to keep racial hostility simmering than to eradicate the symbols, flags and monuments to the Confederacy?  The NAACP wants to piss on the graves of our ancestors, remove them from the public memory, and insult all who value our Confederate ancestry.  Has their strategy of engendering hatred worked?

Yes, it has worked on me, for I hate the NAACP and will do everything in my peaceful and lawful power to disempower this evil organization.  We need the IRS to audit them and revoke their non-profit status.  We need to stop granting them an undeserved and unearned respect.  Do not donate any money to the NAACP, and do what you can to disrupt their mischief on the local level.  Picket them with Confederate flags flying; sue them; denounce them.  Petition your state governments to cancel their non-profit status.  Confront them with courage, for they have feet of clay.  The NAACP is the enemy of racial harmony, and it is time to publicly state that fact for all to hear.

Pluto: Spacecraft to Fly By Planet Today, Following 9 Year Journey from Earth

Today the New Horizons spacecraft completed a journey of 9+ years and 3+ billion miles:  it will fly past Pluto, the most distant planet (planetoid?) in our solar system.  The spacecraft's closest approach to the planet will take it 7,750 miles above the surface.

Why Support Donald Trump?

Sundance at The Last Refuge gives some pretty good reasons for supporting Donald Trump.  Those reasons are that, let's face it, the Republican Party is unlikely to stop the progressive onslaught.  To the contrary, the Republicans support the left's policy agendas more than they oppose them.

Sundance writes about his support for Donald Trump:

So why support him [DonaldTrump]?

Argument #1 – After all, he’s been a democrat, an independent, a Republican, and well, I have consistently despised Charlie Crist.

Counter Argument – Then again, what about Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, and Orin Hatch, and Lindsey Graham, and John McCain, and John Cornyn, and Thad Cochran and, well, you get the point…. What’s the difference between supporting those consistently Republican “Republicans” only to have them advocate for liberal/progressive policies.

Are the aforementioned better because they didn’t change party registration, yet act like Democrats?

Let me first explain something few fully comprehend – and fewer still, are willing accept. People like us rail against the “establishment” because, despite the GOP claims to the contrary, they never actually do anything to stop the liberal policy agenda. One only has to look at President Obama’s veto record (four in 6.5 years) to accept that only legislation Obama agrees with is reaching his desk.

Something must be done to have an effective opponent to liberal Democrat policies. We won't get it with another RINO candidate. We need to shake things up. We need to put the fear of God into the squishy, pliable, good-ole-boy club that takes our votes for granted, and who consistently ignore what conservatives want. Is Trump the perfect candidate? No, but who is? His one, immensely saving grace is that he is not a part of the mainstream Republican establishment. I'll vote for him on that basis alone.

Transgender Freak Show Planned for U.S. Military

The Pentagon has ordered military services to plan for the inclusion of transgenders in the ranks or our army, navy and air force.

A transgender is someone whose "gender identity" differs from his or her biological reality.  Think Bruce Jenner in drag as "Caitlin."  Think of boys who like to dress up as girls, and vice versa.  Think cross dressers.

As Fred Reed put it, "I've always wanted to be defended by a freak show."

If someone wanted to reduce the world's greatest fighting force to a clown parade, fit only for ridicule, dirty jokes and scorn, he could do no better than emulate Obama's policies.  The only benefit is that enemy troops may die laughing before we have to shoot them.

The House bill would outlaw the display of any Confederate flag on our soldier's graves in certain national battlefield parks.  The Senate proposal would reduce the amount of federal highway funds given to any state which issues specialty license plates displaying our flag.  Both of these bills face uphill battles to be enacted, but the fact that either of them have been proposed and are actually being considered should be alarming.  Follow the links below for more specific information on the status of these proposals. It is suggested that our membership needs to "carpet bomb" our various representatives in Congress -- particularly southern Republicans -- with emails, phone calls, and letters expressing our outrage at these proposals.  Further, those of you who plan to attend the upcoming national reunion in Richmond should, if possible, plan a side trip to Washington and pay a personal call on your representatives.  Well spoken words conveyed in person can have a disproportionally large effect.  It's time to step up, and do your part!
