Control-Freak: Mohammed's Strange Obsessions

Mohammed was such an egomaniac. He believed all his personal preferences and pet-peeves should be made law over all humanity, so he had his counterfeit god so decree.

Mo didn't like music. He may have been tone deaf. So this great balm for the soul is forbidden to Muslims. The formerly sane singer Cat Stevens stopped singing, playing and recording after his conversion to Islam. And when do you ever read in the papers about the next tour of the Tehran Philharmonic Orchestra?

Mo didn't like house pets either, so no dogs or cats for Muslims. I suspect Mo was allergic to pet dander; in any case, once again his personal tastes are now the law for all mankind.

We should count ourselves lucky Mo wasn't allergic to flowers or all gardens in Muslim land would now be gone. Of course, the only flowers that grow in Mecca are rocks, so this wasn't a problem.

Too bad Mo didn't have an aversion to lying, robbery, murder and rape. But it's nice to know he was insistent on the things that really count.

  2. I think this is on topic, makes a good point and I hope is not too long to post:(found on aonther blog)

Historians are a cynical lot — unless they filter history through a religious lens, and in that case "everything makes sense." Rational historians recognize the cyclical nature of human society, culture and politics: progressivism, reactionism, moderation, again, and again, and again.

Since the early 1980s, the radical Religious Right has gained a considerable foothold in American political life. This is as dangerous as the radical right gaining power in Germany, Italy, Spain, and much of Eastern Europe in the 1930s — or the radical left in Russia, China, Vietnam, Cuba and Eastern Europe in the wake of World War II.

The important word here is "radical." What makes them radical?

All radical movements display a fanatical belief in a set of doctrines: "Mein Kampf," for example, or Marx's "Communist Manifesto" — or the Bible. All of these movements believed that these documents contained within them an absolute truth, unchanging and unchallenged. Communists believed in Marx's interpretation of history, economics and society in exactly the same way that today's right-wing Christians believe in the Bible — which is a supreme irony, as Communists ridiculed religious-minded people for their rigid adherence to an historical document.

Like radical Muslims around the world, radical Christians believe that their holy text contains a set of rules and practices handed down by God. As they believe that these rules and practices represent the Word of God, they are both unchanging and unchallegeable. If this holds true, radical Christians must therefore be aware of these Biblical laws:

Anyone who dreams or prophesizes anything that is against God, or anyone who tries to turn you from God, is to be put to death. (Deuteronomy 13:5)

If anyone, even your own family suggests worshipping another God, kill them. (Deuteronomy 13:6-10)

If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)

Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9)

If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).

If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11)

If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14)

If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16).

If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)

Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27)

If a priest's daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9)

People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)

Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Leviticus 20:13 clearly states "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

(this list is provided courtesy of Bible Babble.)

These rules, however, are not really the problem. The problem is that radical Christians — as with radical Muslims — believe that they are acting in accordance with God's wishes, and therefore are always correct.

This mindset leads to the assasinations of abortion doctors, or politicians speaking out against same-sex marriage — or suicide bombings in Tel Aviv.

In other words, radical Christians are as potentially dangerous as radical Muslims. They are, in fact, no different from one another. They both insist that they are simply carrying out the "Word of God" by flying airplanes into buildings, or restricting the Constitutional rights of minority groups that offend them.

During his resignation speech, Representative Tom Delay announced that he would continue working to improve foster care, strengthening the Republican Party — and bringing more religion into government. He thus publicly admitted that his Party is working towards the creation of a neo-theocracy, the kind of system rejected by the framers of the Constitution.

I believe that we are living in dangerous times. The constant appeal by the religious right to the worst instincts of the American electorate (in various forms) could potentially lead to a dictatorship that seeks to crush all dissent, as all dictatorships do.

If the liberal and progressive forces in American society continue to fail as completely as they have in the past twelve years, the liberties we cherish will vanish beneath a tidal wave of hatred and intolerance.

  3. What a bunch of pure bullshit Gary.

All of these strange Biblical quotes you mention are all from the Old Testament which predates Christianity; I haven't looked, but they were probably taken out of context. In any case, they are not binding on Christians, who are governed by the New Testament. None of them have a thing to do with Christianity and you embarrass yourself by displaying your ignorance.

As for the fool who wrote "In other words, radical Christians are as potentially dangerous as radical Muslims. They are, in fact, no different from one another. They both insist that they are simply carrying out the 'Word of God' by flying airplanes into buildings, or restricting the Constitutional rights of minority groups that offend them."

What a bunch of unsubstantiated crap! What Christians do you know who flew airplanes into buildings? What minority groups are Christians trying to restrict? Come on Gary name them, or admit you're an idiot!

The fool who wrote the crap you quoted is a flaming ignoramus and you can tell him I said so.

Christians are not commanded by God to murder nonbelievers; Muslims are. Christians are not told they can rob, rape and enslave nonbelievers; Muslims are. Christians are not told they can murder sinners or apostates; Muslims are. Christians are not told they have to institute a religious theocracy, Muslims are.

There is no similarity between the two and your post is a gross insult to the intelligence.

If your Leftist airhead friends want to opine, they ought to actually try reading the Bible and Quran, or try actually reading some books on the subject rather than inventing their own "facts" on the fly.

Your Leftist buddies hate Christianity because it makes them feel guilty for taking dope, fornicating, aborting kids, committing adultery and romping with their fellow gays, as well as for not being loyal to Socialism and the State rather than to their God. The Communist Antonio Gramsci taught that Christianity must be destroyed in the West before it would be possible for Marxists to take over the West. So your buddies are still trying to do exactly that.

Comparing the Bible to Mein Kampf or the Communist Manifesto is too much. You're an idiot Gary for posting this pile of crap and I no longer have any respect for your opinions.

  4. Gary, your Biblical quotes are not exactly what the Bible says. For example, your quote of Deuteronomy 17:2-7 of "Kill anyone with a different religion" is patently false. The passage you mention says this:
" 2 If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant, 3 and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky, 4 and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, 5 take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death. 6 On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness. 7 The hands of the witnesses must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from among you."

Harsh? Yes, Old Testament times were very harsh. But the references to killing were all specific situations and not an open-ended commandment for all time.

Your sources have deliberately condensed these quotes to make them seem so. You Lefties are so intellectually dishonest. You can only hope to win an argument by being deceitful, isn't that right Gary

  5. Another dishonest quote: Leviticus 19:27: "Don't cut your hair nor shave."

The actual verse reads this way: "You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard."

Or go read the Bible yourself, my untutored antagonist. You can read it online at http://bibleresources.bible.com/bible_read.php

  6. I just found it and copied verbatim. (Thanks for checking out some of it)

Your reaction was predictable. You zoom in to pick on arguable points, rather than zooming out to see the big picture - the obvious message. We are all the same.

It makes a good point tho about "radical fringes" and that I agree on. It is not the rational middle that twists and uses emtions in that way.
As for the accuracy - well that just points out how things are used to whip up emotion. That's how the big shots in Islam get the youngsters to strap on a bomb.

I still say the point is obvious.

Islam vs Christianity - - Republicans vs Democrats
It's all the same on the fringes - missunderstood emotions going astray!!

Yeah yeah - you think I am full of crap - I know. You think anyone who thinks differently is too- so I am in good company.

I am NOT saying you are wrong, my points are not about right and wrong. I can not say your are correct however - infact I feel you are NOT!

Some Islamics are very fine peacable people - some Christians are not - same with the dems and reps. To box every one up in one size fits all decritions is short sighted.

Stogie - I know you and I see eye to eye on many things, we just have not addressed those. My suggestions have been about the judgments, the one size fits all attitudes - but my "reason" for injecting is this: I know that hatred and fear are TOXIC emotions, they poison the body. Hatred and fear are used to control others, by leaders from priests to presidents.
If we remove the hatred and fear - we are not controlled - we are truly free.
Is that a bad wish for humanity?
Is it wrong of me to work toward that end?

If you no longer respect me for that wish - well - so be it!
    Gary
