There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.Newsmax has since deleted the article in light of a firestorm of protest from both left and right. Some blogs, like the Fence Sitters (aka "The Moderate Voice") are claiming that "Newsmax Calls for a Military Coup in the US."
Newsmax, of course, did nothing of the sort. Kathy Katenburg should be ashamed of herself for such a misleading and mendacious article title.
I reviewed this same possibility of a military coup back in March in a post called "Is Barack Obama the New Salvatore Allende?" Allende was a communist who was elected president of Chile back in 1970. His ruin of the Chilean economy was so severe that eventually the military deposed him in a coup. When people are starving in the streets they are far less likely to pay lip service to the nuances of democratic elections. The military overthrew Allende, but they did so with the overwhelming support of the Chilean population.
I concluded that Obama would have to really screw things up to become the subject of a coup and we are nowhere close to that situation at this juncture. A far more likely and practical strategy would be to remove him from office via the ballot box, after first rendering him politically impotent in office through the 2010 Congressional elections.
Clifton at Another Black Conservative has stated that the military has the Constitutional right to remove any government that grows tyrannical. He writes:
Despite popular belief, America is not a democracy. America is a Constitutional Republic. As such, we are a nation of laws with the Constitution reigning supreme. This is also why our military swears allegiance to the Constitution and not to an elected official. Even the elected officials swear to uphold and defend the Constitution. So yes, the military can act against any president or congress that flat out thwarts the Constitution.
Read our founding documents and the words of our Founding Fathers and the message is clear, power does not rest with government but with the people. Our Founding Fathers gave us both tools and encouragement to over throw ANY government that grows tyrannical. This is why our words and our weapons take the number one and number two spots in the Amendments.
Now here is the shocking part, this kind of stuff has been true since the dawn of our government and so long as we keep our true rights and liberties, it will remain true until the end of time. So while talk of a military coup is shocking and scary, the military’s allegiance to the Constitution is just another check and balance in our form of government designed to keep a free people free.
Now lets get back to opposing those dreadful [Obama] policies the way Americans normally do, protest, protest, protest!Clifton has made more sense on the Perry post than any other blogger I've seen today. No wonder his blog star continues to rise.
Back in March my own conclusions were this:
Perhaps this country can survive the next two years until the next round of Congressional elections wherein a Republican majority can be seated; they can then stymie Obama's socialization program until we can kick him out in 2012. Or impeach him. By then I predict the Supreme Court will be a lot more interested in Obama's missing birth certificate than they are now.
Or, like Salvatore Allende, perhaps Barack Obama will awaken one morning to find the White House lawn covered with tanks and soldiers. I hope it never comes to that. But it could.
