Bro and Stogie Jam Out to "Black Magic Woman" (Video)

Over the weekend I visited my older brother (Bro) in Fallon, Nevada. We jammed for two days straight! In a jam, you play many songs that you may not have played before. Bro and I haven't played music together for three and a half years, but had a great time and were pleased with the results. Because it's a jam, the renditions will not be as polished like they would be if previously rehearsed. That adds a bit of fun to the efforts, because improvization is required. In the vid below, Bro is playing a black Fender Stratocaster guitar, but you can't see it behind his keyboard. Too bad, it's a beautiful guitar -- but you can certainly hear it well. I am in the fedora playing my new Fender Jazz Bass. Bro does the singing.  (I am not coordinated enough to play bass and sing at the same time.) Have a listen.

Back Home From the Road Trip: Bro Plays "Sleepwalk" on Steel Guitar

We returned home from Roseville (near Sacramento) today.

I have to go see Bro one of these days, SOON, play some music with him and our old friend Bob, who also lives in Fallon, Nevada.   Bro plays several instruments, including steel guitar.  Steel guitar is played with a bar, slid up and down the strings, and is popular in both Country and Western and Hawaiian music.  They were popular in times past and seem to be making a comeback.  I saw one on American Idol last week.

The song embedded below is "Sleepwalk," one of the most popular pop instrumentals of the 1950's.  (It was popular in 1959.)  My brother "Bro" plays it on his steel guitar and does justice to the original by Santo and Johnny.  Click on the arrow to play.

Folks Get Along in Nevada

My older brother, Bro, loves animals (as do I).  So he feeds all of the wild creatures along with the domestic ones.  The pic below was taken in Nevada where he lives.
