Tom Delay Exonerated: Appeals Court Reverses Politically Motivated Prosecution and Conviction #TomDelay

Disgraced Texas DA Ronnie Earle

Tom Delay was a prominent Republican and Leader of the House Majority in 2002.  Delay was effective in getting more Republicans elected in Texas, and for this he incurred the ire of a fanatical Democrat activist, one Ronnie Earle, a District Attorney for Travis County, Texas.  Earle abused his office in launching political indictments against Republicans, based merely on his own political biases.  He indicted Texas Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison for highly dubious reasons, and at the pretrial hearing, the judge ordered a directed verdict of "not guilty" so the false charges could not be refiled.

Tom Delay was undoubtedly the pinnacle of this cretin's shameful career, in that he was able to obtain an indictment of Tom Delay, after shopping eight different Grand Juries, and then tried Delay in the leftist enclave of Austin, Texas, where Delay was wrongly convicted of "money laundering," for obtaining contributions for Texas Republican candidates.  Delay was forced to resign from Congress, and was sentenced to three years in jail for the alleged crime.  His attorneys immediately appealed the 2010 conviction, and the case slowly wound through the appeals process.

Today however, Delay's nightmare was ended when the Texas Appeals Court reversed the conviction, stating that there was no evidence to convict, and that the indictment should never have been brought in the first place.  Delay was therefore formerly acquitted of the charges.

Ronnie Earle is a POS, but his dishonorable and disgraceful abuse of the justice system had its intended effect:  Delay's political career was ended, his reputation unfairly tainted by the false charges, and he was forced to spend great sums of money to avoid jail time from the absurd conviction.

Ronnie Earle is the personification of the Party of Treason, the Democrat Party, where any behavior is judged merely by its success in defeating Republicans, no matter how ruthless, dishonest, dishonorable or corrupt the tactics.  Destroying careers and lives of political opponents is par for the course, as is stealing elections through voter fraud and other schemes.

Ronnie Earle is a complete disgrace and deserves only our deepest contempt.

Has America Passed the Point of No Return? Have Progressives Finally Won the Future?

John Hinderaker at Powerline has a rather sobering post today:  Why Is This Election Close?

John believes that the country may have passed a point of no return.  He writes:

On paper, given Obama’s record, this election should be a cakewalk for the Republicans. Why isn’t it? I am afraid the answer may be that the country is closer to the point of no return than most of us believed. With over 100 million Americans receiving federal welfare benefits, millions more going on Social Security disability, and many millions on top of that living on entitlement programs–not to mention enormous numbers of public employees–we may have gotten to the point where the government economy is more important, in the short term, than the real economy. My father, the least cynical of men, used to quote a political philosopher to the effect that democracy will work until people figure out they can vote themselves money. I fear that time may have come.

Hinderaker quotes Andy McCarthy at National Review, who implicitly believes that the Gramsci vision has been realized, that the "long march through the institutions" has been accomplished, and that a large part of our country's culture and institutions, namely the media and academia, are in the firm control of the Left.  What's worse, is that the Republican establishment cannot fight them because it has accepted the Progressive framework, not arguing for its abolishment, but only that it be better executed.  McCarthy writes:

It has always been possible to run against elite opinion and win — if you make a compelling counter-case...Today’s Republicans do not. Indeed, they cannot, because they have accepted the progressive framework. Their argument is not that the welfare state, deficit spending, federalized education, sharia-democracy promotion, and the rest are bad policies. Their argument is not that Washington needs to be dramatically downsized. It is that progressive governance is fine but needs to be better executed.

My friend Lawrence Auster at View From the Right has long argued the same thing -- that the Republican establishment seeks a slightly different approach to liberalism, but not its defeat.  This is a very pessimistic view, but no doubt it contains a lot of truth.

If we do indeed lose the nation to another four years of progressive destruction, it may be time to consider some radical alternatives, e.g. a new political party, state nullification of unconstitutional laws, and even secession.

Democrats Use Arizona Tragedy to Restrict Freedoms

Democrats have long stacked the political deck in their favor.  They did this by attaining overwhelming representation in the mainstream media -- all of the largest newspapers and all of the television networks were solidly Democrat. They were the gatekeepers of public knowledge and news slant.  Stories that were inconvenient to the Democrat cause were killed, buried or just not published.  News that doesn't see the light of day isn't news at all.  The public could only read or view news that the liberals allowed, and that reporting was often editorials in disguise.

Another weapon the Democrats used was the so-called "fairness doctrine."  That meant that editorial opinion in public media had to provide a forum for opposing views.  Many radio and television stations didn't editorialize because of this.  When the "fairness doctrine" was ended, talk radio bloomed.  Rush Limbaugh created a huge radio audience for his show and took Democrats and liberals to task over their policies, vigorously refuting their arguments and assailing their assumptions.  Other talk radio shows soon followed, with Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Michael Savage and others starting radio shows of their own.

With the coming of Fox News, the Democrat monopoly on news and opinion was finally ended and the Dems have been chafing ever since.  They want to bring back the "fairness doctrine," not because it was fair, but because it wasn't.  The fairness doctrine suppressed vigorous political debate, and vigorous debate is not helpful to the Democrat cause of big government and high taxes.

Politico states:

Today Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-SC, wants to bring back the Fairness Doctrine – a move aimed directly at talk radio – while Media Matters CEO David Brock asked Rupert Murdoch to rein in or possibly even fire Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.

Other Democrat attacks on freedom were noted in my posts yesterday, on their planned curbs of gun ownership and restrictions on free speech.  Since a majority of Americans are opposed to such legislation, the Democrats hope to pass it during a moment of national angst, horror and grief over the Arizona shootings.  Never let a good tragedy go to waste.


Meanwhile, the odious left continues its blood libel:

While discussing Saturday's shooting in Tucson MSNBC host Chris Matthews specifically names Mark Levin and Michael Savage.

"Every time you listen to them, they are furious. Furious at the left. With anger that just builds and builds in their voice and by the time they go to commercial they are just in some rage every night with some ugly talk. Ugly sounding talk and it never changes," Matthews said.

Yes, I am furious at the left, too.  Furious over their assault on our constitutional freedoms, on their concerted effort to turn our nation into a bankrupt banana republic.  If we weren't furious, I suppose they could carry out their dismantling of America without opposition.  They'd like that, but it's not going to happen.
