The Limbaugh Rule: Vote For Most Conservative Candidate in the Primary

        
In days of yore, William F. Buckley invented a rule for primary elections:  vote for the most conservative candidate who can win.

Rush Limbaugh has come up with a new rule:  "In an election year when voters are fed up with liberalism, you vote for the most conservative Republican in the primary -- period."

I agree with Rush, and that was the point of my previous post on Christine O'Donnell:  let's support real conservatives in the primaries and take our chances in the general election.  We will no longer support RINOs, period.

Right now the nation is thoroughly disgusted with socialist-liberalism and are ready for a change, perhaps a large, sweeping change.  The door has been opened for a strong move to the right in American politics, and we must make the most of a historical opportunity.

Let's stop our slow retreat in the face of statism and counterattack.

Christine O'Donnell and the Republican Establishment

Tea Party candidates continue to upset Republican establishment candidates.  Christine O'Donnell won the senatorial primary in Delaware yesterday.  She was quickly denounced by the architect of our 2006 defeat, Karl Rove.  Furthermore, the GOP stated that they will not fund O'Donnell's campaign in November's general election.

For years we Republicans have had to endure one RINO candidate after another, put up by the Republican establishment.  The GOP's promise has not been to roll back Democrat big government statism; it  has been to more efficiently manage that statism.  That isn't good enough for conservatives.  We want to reverse the Democrats' incursion into the private sector, reduce taxes and the size of government.  Our goal is not to slow the socialist advance, it is to stop it and reverse it.

Those who argue for support of RINO candidates are still in "limit the damage" mode.  I believe that this mindset is on the wane.  Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh wondered why on earth we would want to vote for O'Donnell's opponent, Mike Castle.  What's the difference between a socialist with an R after his name and a socialist with a D after his name?

The recent "fight on the right" over O'Donnell vs Castle ruffled some Republican feathers, but it was a debate worth having.  For me, it brought increased moral clarity: to eschew RINO candidates and support real conservatives.

Our goal is to defeat and roll back liberalism.  Let's nominate real conservative candidates and take our chances in November.

Newt Comes Up Short: He Misread the Race and the Mood of the GOP

A great article in the Washington Post today:  Gingrich Comes Up Short. Some excerpts:

Amidst the stunning events in New York's 23rd congressional district -- with Republican-turned-independent Doug Hoffman suddenly surging to the front and likely to win today's race -- collateral damage has been suffered by some of the GOP's presidential hopefuls who misread the race and the mood of the Republican electorate.

"The people who run the Republican Party are going to have to learn that moving to the left is not going to win them elections."

In contrast, pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List, the Club for Growth, Fred Thompson and Dick Armey all endorsed Mr. Hoffman. Then there's Sarah Palin, whose endorsement of Mr. Hoffman focused national media attention on the race and seemed to set in motion the collapse of support for Ms. Scozzafava. Lucky or otherwise, Ms. Palin comes out looking like a leader and Mr. Gingrich doesn't.

Conservatism, Not Republicanism: A Major Shift in Political Identity?

With the GOP base becoming increasingly annoyed with the Republican establishment, more and more Republicans are saying they are "conservatives first and Republicans second."  The Party will serve the base, not the other way around.

Jonah Goldberg: GOP Will Not Be "Democrat-Lite"

Jonah Goldberg of National Review Online agrees with the rightward direction of the Republican Party. He says the conventional wisdom is that, for the GOP to survive, it must move left and emulate the Democrats. However, neither the public nor the Republican membership wants that. He writes:

Whatever the merits of this advice, two things are now quite clear.

First, most conservatives and Republicans have next to no desire to follow it. And, second, it looks like they're right not to.

The Virginia contest alone shows that much of this talk about "moderates" vs. "extremists" or "pragmatists" vs. "ideologues" within the GOP was nonsense.

In short, the Newt Gingrichs of the Party have been sent packing, and that's a good thing.

GOP's Hand-Picked Candidate for NY-23 is a DEMOCRAT

Today Dede Scozzafava, Newt's hand-picked candidate for New York's 23rd congressional district, formally endorsed the Democrat in the race, Bill Owens.  Her husband did so earlier.

Scozzafava dropped out yesterday when polls showed her support tanking.  Instead of throwing her support to the conservative candidate, she chose to throw it instead to the Democratic candidate.

Scozzafava was a pro-abortion supporter of bail-outs and other Democrat policies. If there was anything "Republican" about her, it wasn't obvious.  Now she has shown her true political colors.  Dan Riehl at Riehl World View is reporting that Scozzafava is now doing robo calls for Bill Owens.

This is the "Republican" the National Republican Party would have stuck us with.

Scozzafava Drops Out: NY 23 a New Race

Dede Scozzafava, the liberal Republican running for a congressional seat in upstate New York, has dropped out of the race.  The special election is to be held Tuesday and polls were showing a dead heat between the Conservative Party candidate, Doug Hoffman, and the Democrat Bill Owens.  Scozzafava was running a distant third.

At first blush it would seem to be a boon for Doug Hoffman; now Republicans who were split between Hoffman and Scozzafava may move in Hoffman's direction.  However, Scozzafava's name will still appear on the ballot so voters can still vote for her whether she is officially running or not.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Rush Limbaugh: "Vote for Doug Hoffman!"

On his program this morning, Rush Limbaugh endorsed Doug Hoffman for the special congressional election next Tuesday in New York's 23rd district.  Hoffman was turned down by the Republican Party apparatchiks for their official endorsement, choosing instead to appoint RINO Dede Scozzafava as the official Republican candidate.  Hoffman than ran for the seat on the Conservative Party ticket.  Polls show him ahead of both the Democrat and the RINO Republican.

Rush Limbaugh said that, on occasion, both major party candidates are so objectionable that the only sane course is to run against them on a third party or independent ticket.  He gave examples of similar situations in the past.

Rush Limbaugh came right out and told his audience:  "Vote for Doug Hoffman!"  Rush's endorsement has to help Doug Hoffman.  The election is now less than a week away.  If Hoffman wins, it will be a successful rebellion against the do-nothing Republican establishment and help fire the conservative revolution.

Purge Newt!

Newt Gingrich didn't have much credibility with me after I learned he believes in man made global warming.  Now the old Republican retread is denouncing the Party's base by endorsing a leftist for NY 23rd, one Dede Scozzafava; he has called conservative opposition to Scozzafava as "a purge" of the GOP that will return Obama to the White House for a second term.

However, for the second day in a row, polls show the Conservative Party challenger, Doug Hoffman, leading both the Democrat and the Rino in voter popularity.  Hoffman is over the Democrat by 5% and runs ahead of Rino Scozzafava by 20%.  It looks like Newt's endorsement has done little but embarrass him.

One thing the GOP's Good Ole Boy Club had better learn fast, is that we, the base, aren't going to put up with them anymore.  For years we have had to hold our noses and vote for some Rino like John McCain because there wasn't anyone better on the ballot.  Our choices on the Road to Serfdom consisted of the Democrat shortcut down Socialism Avenue, or the Republican scenic route through Big Government Park.  We would arrive at the same place (Red Square), but the Republicans would get us there more slowly.

No more.   NO MORE RINOS is our slogan and our battle cry.  We must continue to purge the false leaders and appeasers, the Quislings and the Vichy collaborators.  A liberal with an R after his name is a liberal still.  The GOP is not an end in itself but the means to an end:  more individual freedom, less taxes, less government.
