Don Your Indian Garb: New Boston Tea Party Planned

Barack Obama is busily moving the country towards socialism and rights will be lost that are unlikely to ever be restored. He is increasing taxes and spending tons of money on all sorts of nonsense. If one wanted to destroy the United States of America from within, he couldn't come up with a better plan of action than the Obama agenda.

Occasionally, in American history, we have seen cataclysmic events occur wherein the people took matters into their own hands and offered stiff resistance to tyranny. The Boston Tea Party was one, where American colonists disguised themselves as American Indians, boarded British ships in Boston Harbor and thew their cargo of tea overboard. Seems they were peed off about higher taxes on tea.
..
Today Obama is raising taxes through the roof at the same time he is nationalizing health care. We are way over due for a new display of stiff resistance by patriots. Of course, throwing tea into Boston Harbor is a strategy that would have to be updated to be effective in our modern age.
..
Maybe we could throw Obama and his cabinet into Boston Harbor and keep the tea. It goes so well with cigars.

Remembering Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941

USS Arizona aflame on December 7, 1941 - Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
It is curious that the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred on Sunday, December 7, 1941. Today, sixty-seven years later, December 7 again falls on a Sunday.

The world will always contain tyrants, despots, dictators and madmen who would attack us and kill as many of us as possible, if they have the chance. With that knowledge, we would do well to always be prepared for war. Unfortunately, our new President has vowed to cut weapons research and development, make deep cuts in our nuclear stockpiles, and reduce the military budget by 25%. This is in keeping with the liberal notion that, if we are unprepared, unarmed and vulnerable, we will not be attacked. The efficacy of this approach can be seen in how well it works with the Somali pirates.

Those who learn nothing from history are doomed to repeat it, goes an old saying. Liberals learn absolutely nothing from history and seek the same failed policies over and over again. Socialism creates poverty and want, it does not alleviate them; pacifism does not bring peace, it encourages despotism and greases the skids to war. Using liberal logic, the best way to get rid of crime is to reduce the size of the police force. However, I digress.

Today we are remembering Pearl Harbor, a Navy site near Honolulu in the Hawaiian Islands where many of our Navy ships were berthed on that morning so long ago. Japanese aircraft carriers approached and launched three waves of air attacks on military targets in and around Pearl Harbor, sinking many ships and killing 2,403 Americans, most of them military personnel.

Japan had just rendered a fatal blow...to itself. An outraged America prepared for war and, four bloody years later, dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, ending the war. The Japanese damn well deserved it.

May the sailors, marines and soldiers who died at Pearl Harbor rest in peace. May we never forget them, and more importantly, never forget the lessons of Pearl Harbor. In order to preserve the peace we must eternally prepare for war. Or, as Thomas Jefferson put it, "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."

Photos: Black and white photo is of the USS Arizona battleship, burning and sinking. The colored photo is of the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor. You can see the outline of the ship's hull beneath the water. To this day, the Arizona still leaks oil that rises to the surface in a slow but steady stream of globules, dispersing on the surface in rainbow colors. Most of the Arizona sailors who died on that day are still entombed within the ship's hull.

Philosophical Musings on a 1940 Pickup Truck

We need to brace ourselves for a new political regime, one possibly more socialist, pacifist and internally destructive than anything previous. However, this country has been through political, social and economic upheavals before. With any luck, Barack Obama and the socialist Democrats will one day be just a bad memory.
Today was a warm, sunny, spring-like day in the farm country. My wife and I took a ride over to Casa de Fruta where there are many ancient wrecks to peruse: old pickup trucks, tractors, wagons and farm equipment. Most of these old derelicts are rusting hulks, once used by prior generations in hard pursuit of making a living.

I was fascinated by the old pickup trucks, dented and rusted but still emblazoned with their owner's business name. The driver's seats are tatters and springs, the dashboards solid rust, the windshields covered in the grime of decades. The steering wheels still appear solid and functional, though a bit dusty.

The generation who drove these trucks was that of the 1940's, of World War II and Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal and the WPA. It was a scary time back then, but, while looking into the dusty remains of this truck, it is hard to imagine it. How could these vanished people have been so important in the long sweep of history? But they were -- imagine the world today if they had lost World War II or the Cold War that followed.

Considering the forces in play today, what kind of world will we leave to our descendants? Does it really matter?
It does.
