Biden’s Unfolding Paradise

Inflation hit 8% this week.  It cost $68 to fill up my gas tank, the highest fill up cost in my lifetime.  A year ago I paid about $45.  

Meanwhile Joe Blow may get us into a war with Russia, as the latter is posting thousands of troops on the border of Ukraine.  It appears a Russian invasion is imminent.  

Joe Biden’s False Dichotomies

A false dichotomy is a logical fallacy that posits that you have only two choices when there may be many more choices available.

In his terrible rant this week, Joe Biden kept laying out the two false choices:  you can either be for Bull Connors or Martin Luther King, Civil Rights heroes e.g., Rosa Parks or George Wallace, Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis, etc. His point was that you either support his radical left policies or you support the bad guy, the Bull Connors instead of the Martin Luther Kings.  This is nonsense. 

Although I do in fact prefer the good guys in his first examples, I prefer Jefferson Davis over Abraham Lincoln any day of the week.  Davis was a fine and honorable man who loved and cared for his slaves.  Lincoln detested blacks, whether slave or free and desired deporting all of them out of the country.  Lincoln wanted a bloody war to force states back into a union they no longer wanted.  Jefferson Davis wanted peace, and stated “all we ask is to be let alone.”

American Dictator Planning Gun Grab?

This morning conservatives are talking about Joe Biden's insinuation that Obama may seize all guns by Executive Order, rather than wait for any vote by Congress.  The Weekly Standard quotes an interview with Biden:

"The president is going to act," said Biden, giving some comments to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence. "There are executive orders, there's executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet. But we're compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required."

Biden said that this is a moral issue and that "it's critically important that we act."

Biden talked also about taking responsible action. "As the president said, if your actions result in only saving one life, they're worth taking. But I'm convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harm's way if we act responsibly."

No, Biden, you ignorant fool, you will be putting thousands of people into harm's way, by disarming them and preventing their self-defense.  You will be putting millions of American's into harm's way of losing their Constitutional freedoms.

Note to Obama and Biden:  Be careful what you put into action.  We are willing to fight, and we are determined that America will not become a socialist tyranny.  It that takes another civil war, so be it.

The Vice-Presidential Debate: Joe Biden vs. Paul Ryan

I watched the big Vice Presidential debate.  It was somewhat entertaining.

I thought the moderator, Martha Raddatz of ABC News, did a professional job.  I didn't feel that she was overtly biased one way or the other.  She asked good questions.

Who won the debate?  There was no clear winner, though I thought Ryan stuck more closely to facts, whereas Biden was his usual bombastic and demagogic self.  Ryan had Biden rattled early in the debate, where Biden felt he had to interrupt Ryan by speaking over him.  Still, the Fox News panel of undecided voters unanimously agreed that the debate had not influenced their choice one way or the other.

Biden is being criticized tonight by many who felt he was disrespectful and rude, by laughing and smirking while Ryan was speaking.  This behavior was seen on television via the split screen, showing the faces of both candidates simultaneously.

Personally, I thought Biden scored points on his defense of the Administration's Afghanistan withdrawal plan, where they have announced in advance that we will withdraw our troops by 2014, come what may.  Biden argued that we have put the Afghani government on notice that they must step up and take over the task of their own defense, and our departure deadline puts pressure on them to do that.  Good argument, and it changed my mind on the point.  (Romney-Ryan's position wasn't materially different than that of Obama-Biden, anyway.)

Biden couldn't defend the Obama Administration's disgraceful neglect of security in the Benghazi attack on our embassy on September 11, 2012.  Clearly, that debacle reflects very poorly on Obama, both in the criminal negligence of allowing it to happen, then in the obvious attempt to cover it up with a phony story about a YouTube video.

Ryan scored on the economy, as it is clear that the Obama Administration hasn't a clue on economics, job creation and the role of tax policy in maximizing prosperity.  Biden's only stance was what it has always been, tax the crap out of the "rich," bleed those suckers dry.  This always turns me off.  The Democrat vision is that the role of the upper class is to financially support the middle class, and this is the only way the middle class can grow -- as a kind of parasite off the rich.  A better view is that the upper and middle classes need each other -- the former as employers, investors and entrepreneurs, the latter as employees, investors, managers and customers.  They need a symbiotic relationship, not a parasitical one.

My general conclusion:  The VP debate won't materially affect this campaign or the fortunes of the candidates.  If Obama was hoping that Biden would somehow pull his polls out of the toilet, he will be disappointed.  Meanwhile, stay tuned for the next presidential debate, next Tuesday, October 16.

Clearly, the above statistics indicate that Ryan won the debate and possibly added more momentum to the Romney-Ryan ticket.

Bite-Me Biden on the Campaign Trail: More Than Just a Clown, But a Liar As Well

Last night I saw a clip of Joe Biden campaigning for the Marxist duo of Obama and Biden.  Biden was telling an audience of supporters, "How can they justify it?  How can they possibly justify raising taxes on the middle class?  The middle class has been buried for the past four years!"

I am paraphrasing Biden, but that is a true approximation of what he said.

He was castigating the Romney-Ryan campaign because they "plan to raise taxes on the middle class."

Except for one thing:  they have no such plan.  They have never articulated such a plan.  Biden was lying through his teeth.

If Democrats have to resort to lies, deceit and bad faith to get elected and re-elected, how good can their political philosophy be?  The answer is, not good at all.

Joe Biden and Barack Obama's Speeches to the Convention

I listened to the speeches of both Biden and Obama tonight.  Biden was a blowhard, full of enthusiasm but offered nothing but generalities.  Joe Trippi said he thought the second half of Biden's speech was sheer demagoguery.  Obama then gave his speech and offered the same standard stump speech we are used to hearing from him.  I found it uninspired and unconvincing.

Obama set up various "straw men" arguments, by telling us what the evil Republicans want to do, when in fact they have no such goals.  If you can't refute what they said, refute what they didn't say.

Charles Krauthammer said Obama's speech was empty and flat, but other than that, he loved it.  I agree.  The speech was just a lot of promises about what he was going to do in his second four years (probably a lot of golfing back in Chicago, since he will have lots of time on his hands).

If this is the best the Democrats have to offer, I'm not too worried.

As the vice president knows, I have always advocated an all-of-the-above approach to American energy independence. Among other things, my alternative energy goal for Alaska sits at 50 percent because Alaska reached more than 20 percent during my term in office. The Obama-Biden administration, on the other hand, recently announced a renewable goal of only 25 percent. However, domestic drilling should remain a top priority in order to meet America’s consumption and security needs.

The vice president’s extreme opposition to domestic energy development goes all the way back to 1973 when he opposed the Alaska pipeline bill. As Ann Coulter pointed out, “Biden cast one of only five votes against the pipeline that has produced more than 15 billion barrels of oil, supplied nearly 20 percent of this nation’s oil, created tens of thousands of jobs, added hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and reduced money transfers to the nation’s enemies by about the same amount.”

This nonsensical opposition to American domestic energy development continues to this day. Apparently the Obama-Biden administration only approves of offshore drilling in Brazil, where it will provide security and jobs for Brazilians. This election is about American security and American jobs.

There’s one way to tell Vice President Biden that we’re tired of folks in Washington distorting our message and hampering our nation’s progress: Hoffman, Baby, Hoffman!

SNL is too often a bastion of liberal thought. However, once in a while, in spite of themselves, they stumble onto some very funny truths. Last night's opening skit features John Murtha making an ass of himself by insulting his own constituents, and Joe Biden warning of the international crisis after an Obama win.

Watch it and enjoy. We all could use a laugh about now.

Sarah Palin Debates Joe Biden: My Take

I watched the Sarah Palin - Joe Biden vice presidential debate tonight. Sarah Palin did just fine. I was pleased by her performance.

Sarah was informed and knowledgeable on the questions presented to her by Gwen Ifill, an Obama supporter and moderator of the debate. In spite of GOP concerns about Ifill skewing the questions in Biden's favor, she was professional and maintained an air of impartiality. I think she did much better than most moderators of prior debates, almost all of whom seemed pro-Democrat to me.

Who won the debate? Who cares? The fact is, Palin came across as warm, sincere and real. She certainly helped the McCain ticket tonight. Will this translate into a large pro-McCain bounce in the polls? I doubt it. Maybe 1 or 2 points if we're lucky.

I liked how she was cordial and respectful to Biden even while disagreeing with him and sometimes taking him to task, particularly over comments he made in support of McCain and against Obama before Obama selected him as his VP running mate.

Joe Biden also did a good job and raised himself in my esteem. He never got really mean. He launched no personal attacks. He was a good soldier for Obama, a good lieutenant to his commander, and argued well for Obama; however, he seemed a bit like the lawyer he is, a man trained to argue positions he may not actually support in his own mind.

The truth, I think, is that Palin won Biden over along with many other people. She paid him sincere compliments, about his son serving in Iraq, about his wife's 30 years as a teacher. At the end of the debate Palin and Biden stood smiling at one another, shaking hands and exchanging private conversation. Whatever Biden's beliefs about politics, he did not seem to dislike Sarah Palin; just the opposite.

Which just goes to prove how good she will be as the next Vice President of the United States.

Now the Fun Begins: Dems Open Convention

Professor Donald Douglas over at American Power has some interesting statistics that show Obama is in a very precarious position politically. (How's that for alliteration?) Polls are showing him only tied with McCain, or show McCain holding a statistically insignificant lead. In the past, however, the Democrat candidate was generally leading the Republican by double digits on the eve of the Democrat Convention. With any luck, the Dem convention will be a gala of gaffes, goof-ups and geeks. (More alliteration. I'm on a roll.)

I am sitting here in the backyard, smoking a cigar and listening to the crickets in their grand closing ceremony for the day. They need to learn a new song, however. The one they're singing only has one note, A flat if I'm not mistaken. Chirrrup, Chirrrup, Chirrup. Too much alliteration if you ask me, but no one did. But let me return to my deep, philosophical ponderings.

What will the themes of the Dem Convention be? Lower fuel prices through alternative energy sources: wind power (plenty of that in Denver next week), cow flatulence, windmills mounted on car roofs. Giant hamsters are being bred to run on a wire wheel that attaches to the axels of cars. In Rock and Roll, they call this "playing an air guitar." The guitar doesn't really exist, but the air musician goes through all the motions anyhow. Utterly amazing, people polled in Colorado believe that Obama is more likely to solve the energy crisis than McCain. That's like picking me to win a gold medal in gymnastics at the London Olympics in four years. I'd look darling in tights on the balance beam, but they'd probably complain about me dropping cigar ashes on the mats. At least no one would challenge me for being too young. Stock tip: buy shares in Amalgamated Tire Pressure Gauges.

Then there's the theme of Peace Through Weakness. It's an old Dem core belief. During the Cold War, with the USSR pointing thousands of nuclear warheads in our direction, many Dems thought we should destroy all of our warheads, to give the Soviets a feeling of security so that they would then do the same. It was a concept called "unilateral nuclear disarmament." The famous peace sign is supposed to be the semaphoric representation of the letters N and D (for No Dems -- nah, actually, for "Nuclear Disarmament"). Semiphore refers to the signalling with flags that they do in the Navy. It's kind of like Morse Code, but represented visually. Stupidity has a long and colorful history.

Joe Biden-His-Time once proposed that we give 200 million dollars to Iran, no strings attached, to show them that we are kind, benevolent and not a threat. Great strategy. When they stopped laughing, the Mullahs could then forward the funds to the terrorist groups of their choice to buy more rockets to fire at Israel. Beautiful blondes could accomplish the same thing by walking through Central Park at midnight in a bikini with a neon sign strapped to their back that flashes "Rape Me!" Whenever Biden says something really dumb, he always follows it up with a big, toothy grin. Always smilin', that Joe.

Taking the Dem logic a step further, the old peace symbol, which is 50 years old this year, could be replaced by a new one. I suggest a series of concentric multicolored circles (see image), to be worn on the backs of all Americans, or perhaps over the heart as a symbol of our sincerity. This new design is a lot prettier than the old semiphore design and essentially means the same thing.

Major Yawn: Obama Picks Biden for VP

Barack Obama has picked Joe Biden of Delaware to be his Vice-Presidential running mate. It would be difficult to imagine a more mundane, ordinary and uninspiring choice. Biden has himself tried to run for President several times and never emerged from the anonymous pack of second-stringers.

Joe Biden is an old-line Democrat of Big Labor, Big Government, high taxes and socialism. He is perhaps more famous for his plagiarism than his legislation. In 1987 Biden copied a pro-labor speech by U.K. Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock, using it as his own. He was quickly found out and terribly embarrassed. For me, at least, the very mention of Biden's name conjures up a sappy looking guy with the word "Schmuck" tatooed on his forehead in blazing red letters.

The Democrat convention starts Monday. Drink strong coffee before watching.
