Stogie Band Blues Jam

The weakest point of our band is the vocals.  It's hard to find and to keep a decent singer.  Our singer didn't show up for practice so we played some intrumentals, including the blues jam posted below.  Our funky new lead guitar player could be someone's grandma, but if so, she's a rockin' grandma.  She broke into this blues jam and we all followed her.

We had never played this piece together before, but blues follows known chord progressions and we all knew them.  Listen with earphones to hear the bass.

NOTE:  The sound balance on this video isn't perfect by any means.  The video was shot on a small, hand-held digital camcorder with a single recording input.  In spite of that limitation, I think the sound recording quality is quite good.

Grandma and the keyboard/flute player are pretty kickass.

(The rest of y'all ain't half bad either, but those two stand out, for me--prolly because you pointed grandma out--though I really dug her flourishes in Tequila, and would've noticed 'em even if you'd said nothing about her--and because I really like hearing the flute as a rock/jazz instrument.

Other than being pretty sure you ain't Grandma, the flute player or that absent chick singer, I have no clue who in the band you are... (I'm guessing some will suggest that's a good thing...) ...but the music's pretty tight, regardless... Hope to see more videos...

(I won't ask about the politics of the band... 1) I might not like the answer, and 2) some things in life --like music--transcend(s) politics.

Here's hoping you feel the same, and will take the kudos and good musical wishes in the spirit in which they're offered. (If not, well, I tried...)

Repsac3, thanks for your comments. I am the bass player in the green shirt; you need to listen through earphones to hear the bass, as it doesn't come through on small computer speakers. I was, however, quite satisfied with my playing. Our guitar player is quite good and I agree with you about the flute player, he is very good too.

The rhythm guitar player is very good on harmonica, it's where he excels. His singing, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

I think most of the band are either non-political or Democrats; only I and the lead guitar player are conservatives.

One more comment: we have been together for over a year, practicing regularly and playing when we can get a gig. We get along very well and politics have never been a factor in our friendship/musical collaboration.

Yeah, sorry about that...

I guess I was just a little gun shy after getting bitch-slapped in reply to good wishes and other wholly non-political comments over on your buddy's blog. In retrospect, it was unfair; To the best of my recollection, you've never given me cause to think you'd do the same...

Rock on, Stogie...

(& yeah, I'd have to agree with you about the rhythm guitarist's vocals... He deserves credit for trying (& it's probably better'n I could do), but... ...well, let's just leave it at that... Good luck finding/keeping the vocalist y'all'r lookin' for.)
