Why I Support Todd Akin

Todd Akin is a U.S. Congressman running for a senate seat in Missouri.  The seat is currently held by a liberal moonbat, one Claire McCaskill, Democrat.

Akin stuck his foot in his mouth during an interview this week.  Asked if he could support abortion for pregnancy due to rape, he stated that maybe, if it were a "legitimate rape."  Of course, no rape is "legitimate," being a serious and violent crime.  What he meant to say was if it were a "legitimate CASE of rape," as opposed to a woman faking a rape in order to abort an unwanted child.

Of course, the liberals swarmed over this guy like maggots on an overripe corpse, and the Right chimed in.  Akin apologized for his choice of words and clarified his meaning, but no matter.  The majority of Republicans and conservatives called for him to step down and allow another Republican to seek the senate seat.

Akin refused to step down and will continue his senate campaign.  However, this hasn't stopped all of those Republicans who have been well trained by the Left to react to controversy like hysterical women confronting a mouse.  "Look at me, I'm so morally pure and upright!  I oppose a member of my own party because his choice of words offended radical feminists, wherever they may be."  In other words, a lot of the Republican outcry seems to me to be simply moral posturing.  Why are we giving ammunition to the enemy?  You can bet that McCaskill will quote a lot of Republican criticism in her political ads.  Yep, that'll save the seat for the GOP for sure.

Yes, Akin stuck his size 14's down his throat, but who among us have never misspoken and embarrassed ourselves in the process?  Should a man have his life and career permanently marred by a verbal mistake?  Does the incident change who he really is and what he really believes?  More importantly, does his gaffe make Claire McCaskill any more desirable as a senator?  Shall Missourians vote for Obamacare, huge budget deficits, high unemployment, high taxes and reduced individual liberty, in order to punish Akin for being human?

If the Republicans' actual positions are so fragile, and the voters so sensitive and so easily manipulated, perhaps Missouri can't be saved.  In any case, now that Akin has made it clear that he is staying in the race, shouldn't we be supporting him?  If not, maybe the Republican Establishment can borrow the vagina costumes from Code Pink and go to the Convention as pussies.

Bravo, Stogie.

If he was a democrat and had said such a thing I would feel the same way. What the hell is wrong with people that they're so willing to pile on when someone makes a mistake? This constant demanding of apologies is also getting so old. To apologize now means about as much as calling someone a racist.

I defended that little black dem who made the remark about Guam tipping over. It was nothing more than a poorly worded sentence. Come on - he didn't for one second think the damn island was going to "tip over." It was funny and should be treated as such.

This is a result of all the touchy-feely crap that people allow to drive their lives. They operate on "feelings" instead of reason.

I think you and I agree because we are of a "certain age."

BTW - did you see my post about the Ayn Rand documentary? We watched it last night (free streaming from Hulu to my computer.) It was excellent and I highly recommend you watch it. It's target audience is the thinkers of the world. You qualify...

Adrienne, you are one of my favorite bloggers, and not just because you have your mom's great legs, but because you also have brains and common sense. I will definitely watch that Ayn Rand documentary -- thanks for the tip!

I agree, Stogie. The reaction from the Democrats was to be expected. The reaction from the Republicans is beyond stupid. The man made a mistake and you would think he has rabies or something. There is really no call for this.

LD, there is no political crisis so severe that the Republicans can't make it even worse! :)

You know full well that what got him in trouble was not the term "legitimate rape". It was his subsequent display of ignorance about rape. Specifically, he believes that you can't get pregnant from rape ... so if she got pregnant, then it wasn't really rape and therefore she's not entitled an abortion. THAT is why people are up in arms, and rightfully so. See, if he had stood up and said, "Look, I believe abortion is murder and therefore you shouldn't be allowed to do it even for rape cases", he might have got away with that. But he didn't have the guts for that controversial position; instead he tried to pretend that you can sidestep that difficulty by denying that rape pregnancy is even possible. It was not only terminally stupid, but cowardly. He didn't make a "mistake"; he showed what he really thinks, And that's not something you can apologize for and make it go away. That kind of thinking does not belong in office; I don't care WHAT party he is.

Oh horse puckey. Every Democrat blog and website is broadcasting far and wide the term "legitimate rape" in order to distort what he actually meant. Your interpretation is the first I've seen of it. He never said that getting pregnant by is impossible, he said he thought it to be "extremely rare." He was wrong, but you are reading into his statement what he did not intend. And how important is the point anyway? Not very. Unfortunately, there is a large class of weak sisters in the GOP who are ready to dance to the Democrat tune at every opportunity, to show how "sensitive" and "enlightened" they are. With friends like you, Mark, we don't need enemies.

Not really sure how I came across this blog; it was definitely by accident. I read your post above and then read the comments that were left by all of three people. I then looked to see how many people you had following your blog and found that there are only 57 at the time I am writing this. Then....I had myself a good laugh! Thanks for that! By the way - great article on Tim Tebow's girlfriend. Brilliant writer you are and such important stuff! LOL!

Akin stepped in it.

However, when a Leftist steps in it, that's a-okay. The old double standard!

Brilliant writer Christine? Maybe not, but then I am not so insecure that I give a hoot in hell what a liberal airhead like you might think. By the way, I joined the "million hits" club about a month ago. How many do you have?
