Note to Robert Stacy McCain: Now I Understand Your Blogging Focus

Up until Barack Obama was re-elected, Robert Stacy McCain wrote excellent expository essays on the tyranny and destructiveness of liberalism.  Then he apparently gave up the general fight against the left, and just focused on the foolishness of feminism.

I regretted this, because feminism has limited interest for me.  I missed McCain's essays, which I found informative and educational.  After this past week to ten days, I began to understand why McCain more or less dropped out of the general fight.  Conservatism has lost the battle.  The Republican Party is weak and ineffective. The culture wars have been lost to the left.  America is now someplace else, something other than the country we all loved.

Perhaps McCain realized that there is little we can do to turn back the tide of progressivism.  The Supreme Court has become a farce.  Profound ignorance of history, particularly that of the South, grows by leaps and bounds.  The country has become increasingly intolerant of traditional Americanism, e.g., Christianity, traditional marriage, Confederate history, flags and symbols. It will probably get worse, not better. I no longer feel that I belong here, that I am a stranger in a strange land.  What's the point?

So McCain has seemingly picked one small front in our losing battle for freedom.  I now share this feeling of futility.  For the time being, I will cease the general battle as well, and concentrate on fighting the Northern Myth of history.  Will I help turn the tide?  Probably not in our lifetimes.

So I'll do what little I can on a smaller front.  And I will write about non-political subjects that interest me. For now, anyway.

My Telephone Conversation With Ali Akbar and Robert Stacy McCain Tonight

Ali Akbar called me tonight and I had a nice phone conversation with him and with Stacy McCain.  It was good to hear Stacy's Southern lilt again, as we haven't talked in months.

It seems my fears were misplaced.  Ali has been quite active behind the scenes to reinstate the National Bloggers Club with the Secretary of State of Texas, and that should happen fairly soon.  There is more good news, but I am not at liberty to discuss it at the current time.  In any case, my confidence in Ali Akbar was given a booster shot.

Brett Kimberlin has NOT taken over the National Bloggers Club, and has no legal standing to order anyone to do anything with regards to the NBC.

Ali says he is interested in having me be the NBC's accountant, and we will work together to bring everything current and to bring the books into shape.  I look forward to this, as a way to serve the conservative blogging community.

Expect good things.  If you are a member of the National Bloggers Club, remain so; if all goes according to plan, things are going to get a lot better.

Robert Stacy McCain Reconsidered: Leads Courageous Fight Against Brett Kimberlin Crowd

Let's be honest: some time ago I took R.S. McCain to task for supporting Pamela Geller's erroneous and damaging assertion that the English Defence League was "fascist." It isn't, and Geller's reckless claim was roundly condemned by the right blogosphere. I felt that McCain's acceptance of Geller's word at face value betrayed the objectivity that a professional journalist should retain, particularly when reputations are at stake. Further, I was appalled that he would cite the murderous rampage of Anders Breivik as proof that Geller was right...except that Breivik wasn't a member of the English Defence League and nothing that organization has done, said or published could rationally associate them with a psychopath. I do not retract nor do I apologize for the stand I took, which was an ethical stand based on the facts.

I support conservatives when they are right, and McCain is right 90% of the time. I will be no one's ass-kisser.  He was wrong regarding the English Defence League.  That's now all in the past and largely forgotten.  Far more important is what McCain is doing now.
  
McCain's latest project and stance against the Brett Kimberlin crowd is right, honorable and courageous.

We are all really indebted to Robert Stacy McCain for leading the charge against the lying, law-faring and larcenous liberals of the Kimberlin Clan. The story of Brett Kimberlin, his organizations, tactics and allies is a complex tale of villainy, difficult to understand. McCain's recent series of posts has explained the convoluted tale, described the players and how they relate to one another, the organizations they represent, and the people they have victimized. His posts contain a lot of the backstory that bring insight into the sorry saga.

In war, the guys leading the charge are said to be "riding the point," as in the point of the spear, as it penetrates into enemy territory. The soldiers riding point are in a very dangerous but necessary position. McCain has been "riding point" for all of us who are concerned with ruthless harassment and intimidation of conservative bloggers. While many would not wish to expose themselves to the danger, McCain has been fearless in the face of evil.

R.S McCain, once he focuses on a problem, will attack it head-on, even when doing so is dangerous to himself. Not only does he make himself a possible target of SWAT-ing, but also to "lawfare," the leftists' filing of lawsuits to punish their detractors. These suits are time-consuming, expensive to defend, and waste a lot of a person's time (which is why they are filed).

McCain has had to relocate recently to protect his family from Kimberlin & operatives, and needs cash to get his family resettled. Yesterday I sent $100 to R.S. McCain to help in a small way.

R.S. McCain ("The Other McCain") Achieves Ten Million Hits

Robert Stacy McCain's blog, "The Other McCain," achieved Ten Million Hits today.  That clearly places "The Other McCain" into the pantheon of greatest conservative blogs.

McCain has shown himself to be skilled at organization and delegation, as the success of his blog rests partially on the work of capable volunteers, primarily his right hand man, Smitty.  This has freed McCain to work on "shoe leather" reporting, visiting people and places to get breaking news stories from the source, and to provide original reporting of same, often with photos and videos.

McCain, an experienced professional journalist, has run his blog like a small newspaper, with him as the star reporter.  McCain has appeared at many critical political events (most recently some of the "Occupy Wall Street" protests) and interviewed people at the scene, including some well known personalities like Todd Palin and Andrew Breitbart.

Achieving even one million hits on one's blog is no easy feat.  Saber Point is finally approaching one million hits (right now, 982,396, as recorded by StatCounter, my oldest recording tool).  And, it only took six years!  I think McCain first achieved that mark in less than a year.

Congratulations to Robert Stacy McCain.

Robert Stacy McCain Sells Out for Hits: Claims Pamela Geller Was "Vindicated" in Smearing the EDL

Robert Stacy McCain stuck his foot in it this morning, with his post:  "Pamela Geller Vindicated Again..."  He writes:

And let me just remind you that, three weeks before the Oslo massacre, Pamela Geller was being criticized for going public with her concerns about neo-Nazi elements in the English Defence League. My defense of her at that time was simple: If Pamela Geller says you’ve got an anti-Semitism problem, you probably have an anti-Semitism problem.
Fast-forward to the aftermath of Oslo, and Breivik’s claims of “connections” with members of the EDL.

If this is true, don’t you kind of wonder if the EDL members who were buddies with the Norwegian terrorist were some of the same neo-Nazi types Geller was warning about?

This is my response to McCain, posted at his website in the comments section:

When you get it wrong, Stacy, you really get it wrong. Pamela Geller has not been vindicated, though I am sure your misinformed post will get you want, namely, a link and some more hits. "Hits before truth" appears to be the new watchword of "The Other McCain." Kissing ass for link favors is so unseemly, Stacy. You denigrate your reputation in so doing, and so does Donald Douglas. Both of you have lost credibility in my eyes.

Some of us are not so easily taken in, and I proved that Geller's buddy Roberta Moore slandered the EDL with the "neo-Nazi" smear as revenge for being kicked out of the EDL for her ties to a violent Jewish terrorist. Geller simply took Moore's word for it. Do read it here:

Geller then refused to provide any details of the alleged "neo-Nazi" ties of the EDL, because she couldn't. None exist. Further, Anders Breivik disdained the English Defence League because the EDL eschewed violence and terrorism and was dedicated to working through the democratic system. Post script:  I suspect that Pamela Geller was quick to throw the EDL under the bus so she could start yet another Geller/Spencer organization, this time in Europe.  She saw an opportunity to expand her empire and acted recklessly, without doing the required research beforehand as to the truth.  She has not been vindicated in her smear of the English Defence League.  Indeed, as more information comes to light, the EDL is the one who is vindicated, not Geller. 


Meanwhile, it's hard to believe that R.S.  McCain was once a professional reporter -- that he is willing to trash a large group of European conservatives on the unproved say-so of one of his buddies [really great research skills there, Stacy].  I have long been utterly turned off by McCain's buddy-blogging and blog-whoring for links but today he reached a new low.  Having been slandered far and wide by leftists himself, you would think McCain would be a bit more careful before doing the same thing to other conservatives.


Update:  McCain got what he wanted for his unprincipled whitewash of Geller, a link from her here, and no doubt, lots of new hits.  Stacy, you sell your honor cheap.

At the Snob Café: Ann Althouse and the Politics of Posturing

Ann Althouse likes to post pictures of plants and flowers and other Wisconsin flora and fauna, then label her post to describe it "At the ___ Café."  Her post today is "At the Garlic Café."  My post, in her honor, is called "At the Snob Café."

Yesterday I took Robert Stacy McCain to task for overstating his case against Althouse for voting for Obama.  His premise was sound, but he used a cannon to kill a gnat.  However, a gnat is still a gnat and a snob is still a snob, and I think Althouse is the latter.  She claims that her vote for Obama in 2008 was a rational act, but I doubt it.  Obama's credentials as a prosperity-destroying collectivist ideologue were well known, as were his radical associates.  The consequences of voting for him were obvious, but Ann Althouse chose not to see them.  (See my take on it just before the election in 2008.)

Then I had an epiphany.  If one wishes to establish his or her credentials as a wonderfully non-partisan, open-minded, racially tolerant and downright wonderful individual, a heroine to her college students, what better way than to vote for the hip hop candidate of choice, the candidate of sweetness and light.  Voting for Obama was just another way for snobs to posture ("look at me, I'm so enlightened!").  Althouse could not pass up the temptation.  I don't think there is anything cerebral in her decision.  Her vote was more a fashion statement than political conviction.

R.S. McCain wants Althouse to admit her error and apologize.  I want Pamela Geller to admit her error (in slandering the English Defence League) and apologize.  I seriously doubt that either of us will get his wish.  Snobs never apologize.

When News Is Slow, Invent a Controversy: R.S. McCain vs Ann Althouse

Robert Stacy McCain loves to push the envelope in getting hits for his blog, The Other McCain.  He ignores real conservative controversies (probably to avoid losing linky love) like the Geller/Spencer EDL slur, but creates a conservative controversy that gets him links (and it works, because here I am linking to him).

This week RSM called Ann Althouse "a rube" because the latter voted for Barack Obama, and insisted that Althouse admit her mistake.  He writes:

Friday, the Wisconsin law professor asserted that she “made a rational choice” in voting for Obama in 2008, because she does not want to admit the truth: She was wrong, and not merely incidentally wrong, but disastrously, catastrophically wrong.

Ann Althouse is a comely right-leaning blogger in Wisconsin.  She is also a law professor there.  She has been quoted by Rush Limbaugh and gets a huge number of visitors each day, and voilà, there is the reason for McCain's recent attack on her.  Althouse complied, discussed McCain's attack, rebutted him, belittled him, and wrote about him at length.  With her huge readership, she played right into McCain's hands, no doubt sending huge traffic his way, at least for a day or two.  McCain played her like a cheap fiddle at an Alabama hoe-down.  Cue wild fiddle music:  Grab your partners, round and round, doe-see-doe!  Yeeehaaa!

I agree with McCain's assessment of Ann's decision to vote for Barack Obama, as quoted above.  I am disappointed to learn that Ann did something so downright dumb and destructive.  But, as Donald Douglas has pointed out, McCain is just trolling for traffic.  And it worked, big time!  Has "The Other McCain" become the "National Enquirer" of the blogosphere?  What's next, Stacy, "Bigfoot Marries Elvis in a UFO"?

I forgive McCain for this cynical blog ploy, for one good reason:  it was very entertaining.  McCain earned his hits.

Weiner Confesses

Democrat Anthony Weiner confessed to tweeting a lewd photo of himself to a woman he met online, and tearfully apologized to the media for lying about it.  The Other McCain has the videos and facts on this amazing development here.

Weiner tweeted a photo of his lower body in undershorts sporting a visible "stiffy," which he claims was sent to the lady as a joke.  He unintentionally tweeted the photo instead of sending it by email; he then panicked, removed the tweet and then lied about it, saying his Twitter account had been hacked.  The media largely doubted his story.

Robert S. McCain was on the story early on.  Frankly, I ignored the story due to its sleazy nature and unsubstantial subject matter.  However, McCain is a professional journalist and believed (correctly) that the story had legs, and McCain followed it to the end.  Weiner's humiliation is now complete and other Democrats are expected to press him to resign his House seat.

Ah men!  While young, we are possessed by a demonic force known as testosterone, which compels us to make absolute fools of ourselves in pursuit of sex, in an effort to obey nature's dictum to procreate the species, using as many different women as possible to enlarge the gene pool.  This no doubt worked well back when people lived in caves, but not so well in the 21st century.

Take testosterone, mix it with the internet and a few pretty girls, and you are all done, fella.  The results are not often pretty.  You may as well play with dynamite and matches.

Update:  Weiner appears to be much more than just a hormone-motivated guy in heat.  It has now been revealed that Weiner was displaying his wiener, naked, nude and au naturel, to young women over the internet, i.e. exposing himself digitally.  It's obvious that this schmuck has displayed a personal recklessness that is mind-bending.  It would be difficult to find a more blatant example of self-destruction by a public official.  He should not only resign, he should grow a beard, dye his hair, get cosmetic surgery and move to a desert island somewhere and live in a cave.

Blogger Robert Stacy McCain is putting his many years as a professional journalist to use.  He is in Washington, D.C. reporting on the first day of the new Republican congressional representatives.  I do envy Robert in one way, he lives near Washington, D.C. and can be physically present at important events like this.  If you are going to blog about national politics, this is a supreme advantage.

At one time, McCain was a reporter for the Washington Times and made a lot of contacts in and around Washington, D.C.  Now he is establishing himself as a self-employed writer and journalist, yet still manages to support a wife and five offspring.

She Needn't Worry

Robert Stacy McCain is fighting with a feminist today, who swears that McCain is "a misogynist through and through."  There is nothing in McCain's blog that would support the fiction that he is a woman-hater, but facts don't matter to the political-fringe group known as feminists.

The truth is largely this:  feminists hate men and seek to make it mutual.  Their constant clamor about misogyny is just so much psychological projection, a transfer of their own attitudes onto the opposite gender whom they despise.

Years ago, early in my career, I was invited by a female colleague to see a one-woman play in San Francisco about Virgina Woolf.  Woolf is a feminist icon and author who committed suicide sometime around the beginning of World War II.  I was young and very naive.  I figured that feminism must have legitimate complaints about, and solutions to, unfair discrimination against women.  However, the NOW members who attended this one-woman play were generally lesbians who hated men, and that became obvious to me by the end of the play.  From that day forth I discounted feminism and wished nothing more to do with it.

General McCain's Speech to the Troops on the Eve of Battle

Stacy McCain has pointed to the example of the great General George S. Patton on the mindset needed to win the coming battle for America.  He has penned an inspiring post, Lessons of Failure and Hope of Success:  Reflections on the Eve of Battle.  Stacy writes:

Victory is the choice we make when we decide that no defeat can make us stop fighting. If you are defeated today, return to the battlefield tomorrow even more determined to prevail. And no matter how often you lose, you can never be defeated so long as you continue the fight.

We are now on the eve of a political battle that could determine whether America is to achieve its destiny or be doomed to deserved oblivion, having failed to live up to that ancient vision of the City on a Hill.

Indeed, after our terrible electoral defeat in November 2008, I wrote a post titled:  "Tomorrow we begin again."  It's only content was a Photoshop graphic of the Statue of Liberty lying in ruins on a lonely beach, similar to a scene in "Planet of the Apes."  On that terrible day, we could do naught but view the ruin and the wreckage and feel the depths of our defeat.  But even then we knew we weren't through.  We would return again to the fight.  As Churchill once advised, "Never give up.  Never, never, never give up."

Occasional defeats are the price of success.  Another great American, Teddy Roosevelt, made a speech at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France on April 23, 1910.  The most memorable quote from that speech will forever be an inspiration to those who strive for something better.  He said:

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

Stacy McCain can count himself among the "men in the arena," and never be one of the "cold and timid souls," and his efforts on our behalf are an inspiration in themselves.

Left Is Again Smearing R.S. McCain

Last week Stacy McCain interviewed Todd Palin, husband of Sarah Palin, in Wasilla, Alaska.  This was a big coup for Stacy, as Todd's wife Sarah is very popular among conservatives and Republicans.

Apparently, however, the Left has begun stating that, since Robert S. McCain is a "white supremacist" (he isn't), then Todd Palin and the Palin family must be aligned with "white supremacists."  They are trying to damage the Palins by resurrecting an old, disproven lie about Stacy McCain.

It is really a crude smear by association, and in this case, even the association is false.

McCain is smart not to jump through a thousand hoops trying to prove he is not a "white supremacist," because the more he protests, the more publicity he gives to the smear.

The Left really doesn't care if the slander is true or not.  To them, there is no truth or falsity, no ethics, no morality:  there is only winning elections.  Democrat strategy would make Machiavelli blush.

Stacy McCain Does It Again! Live Blogs Conservative Win In Alaska

Stacy McCain, a professional reporter and highly successful blogger, is in Alaska where he live blogged the manual count of absentee ballots in the GOP senatorial primary election there.

A Tea Party candidate, a conservative Republican, one Joe Miller, had challenged the GOP establishment candidate, Senator Lisa Murkowski, a liberal.  The vote was close, but went to Miller.  Murkowski has conceded the race.

I am humbled and grateful....

Stacy McCain, a long time friend, proved once again what a stellar friend he is.  Smitty too.  They read my blog tale of financial woe and published an appeal for folks to send me money, and the response has been amazing.  Other bloggers also created links asking their readers to help.  What great people bloggers are, and those who follow them.

My wife, like me, is not used to getting paid and giving nothing of value in return, so she asked me to make a list to pay everyone back!  I will probably just "pay it forward," being extra generous in the future to conservative bloggers trying to make it.  In any case, I suspect wifey won't be so quick in the future to tell me that blogging is a waste of time!

I have offered whatever services I can to those who have donated.  Only two have taken me up on it.  One was a blogger who had a glitch in her blog format, and I helped her solve it rather quickly.  Another has asked for assistance on a graphics project, and I readily agreed to do it for her.

Fellow conservatives, I owe you big time.  If I can do anything for you, please do let me know.

Wise Words from a Southern Patriot

Regarding the latest dust-up over Virginia's "Confederate History Month," I got really pissed off.  I hate it when ignoramuses attack the South.  I will always remember the words of a wise man, who wrote:

No Southerner should ever think he will be allowed to defend his homeland and her people without being insulted for it. If you're going to defend the South, you must be prepared to defend it down to the last boll weevil on the scraggliest cotton patch in front of the most decrepit tar-paper shack in Mississippi.

So widespread is anti-Southern prejudice, especially among the intellectual elite, that the man who presumes to defend the South might as well begin by foreswearing any further ambition in life. Assume at the outset that you will be denounced and castigated and exiled to outer darkness, and resolve that this daunting prospect will not deter you from your duty.

Ask yourself this, my Southern friend: Who are these people who insult you, your friends and your family? Why does it give them so much pleasure to insult you? And why do they imagine that you will let the insult pass by unnoticed?

Those are the words of Robert Stacy McCain, a true Southern patriot and gentleman. Yes, Stacy, I am resolved to do my duty.

Robert Stacy McCain is once again proving that he is a professional reporter and not just an amateur  blogger (like I am).  He's on the ground in snowy Massachusetts, talking to precinct workers and getting a sense of what's actually happening there.

The Sliming of Robert Stacy McCain: Much Ado About Nothing

Leftist bloggers and activists have for sometime asserted that Robert Stacy McCain is

1. A racist
2. A white supremacist

First, some Webster's Dictionary definitions:

RACISM:

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

WHITE SUPREMACY: a doctrine based on a belief in the inherent superiority of the white race over other races and the correlative necessity for the subordination of nonwhites to whites in all relationships

My response to these assertions follows.

On the Racism Definition:  It is clear that Robert Stacy McCain is not a racist under definition number 1 above (he has never advocated or supported such a position and his actual life experiences, attitudes and deeds refute any such notion).

However, some say that McCain has, in the past, been guilty of the 2nd definition of racism, i.e. racial prejudice or discrimination.  We'll get to that momentarily.

On the White Supremacy Definition:  It is clear that McCain is not now, nor has he ever been, a white supremacist, for the same reasons as in the Racism #1 definition above.

The Charge Against R.S. McCain:
Two days ago a conservative blogger, Patterico of Patterico's Pontifications came out on the side of the McCain bashers and made a concerted attempt to paint McCain as a racist for a private comment he made in a listserve thirteen years ago.  Patterico's hit piece could have been penned by Charles Johnson in its sneering insinuations.  The quote attributed to McCain (which McCain has not denied):

As Steffgen predicted, the media now force interracial images into the public mind and a number of perfectly rational people react to these images with an altogether natural revulsion. The white person who does not mind transacting business with a black bank clerk may yet be averse to accepting the clerk as his sisterinlaw, and THIS IS NOT RACISM, no matter what Madison Avenue, Hollywood and Washington tell us.

Now we have usual poseurs beating their breasts over the "searing racism" of Robert S. McCain.  But was he right in his statement, that "a number of "rational people react to these images [of interracial marriage] with an altogether natural revulsion"?

Discussion and Rebuttal
As Dinesh D'Souza said in his ground-breaking book The End of Racism, "if it's true, it isn't racism."  That fact applies to any number of factors that differ among racial groups, e.g. blacks are faster runners and better jumpers than whites, on average.  Whites are better swimmers than blacks, on average.  If it's true it isn't racist.  In similar fashion, McCain's accurate description of this "natural aversion" was true, though attitudes have changed substantially since 1996.  It is less true today than it is when McCain wrote it.

Remember, McCain wrote that comment 13 years ago, in 1996.  The Gallup Poll on racial attitudes found that as recently as 1994, more than half of all Americans disapproved of interracial marriage.  Indeed, for many years interracial marriage was illegal in most states; the last laws prohibiting it were struck as recently as 1967 -- within the lifetime of many reading this.  To call McCain a "racist" for holding the majority opinion for the time is downright asinine.  

NOTE that disapproval of interracial marriage was not limited to whites; blacks largely felt the same way (were they racists too?) as did any ethnicity you can name.  The "natural aversion" that McCain referred to crossed all racial and color lines; it was a HUMAN attitude, not a "white racist" attitude.  Ask my mother-in-law, who was dead set against her Asian daughter marrying a white boy like me.  She has subsequently awakened to my enormous charm and worthiness.

However, times change and racial attitudes change with them. Today, most Americans, regardless of their race, do not have a problem with interracial marriage, Robert Stacy McCain included, by his own recent statements on the subject.  About 75% of Americans now approve of interracial marriage. See the Gallup Poll data here.  Even so, 25% of those who disapprove is still a fairly high number.

My personal opinion, being a part of an interracial marriage that is in its 34th year, is that interracial marriage is just fine.  I didn't always feel that way.  In 1958, when I was just a kid, I was dead-set against it, as were 96% of all Americans, per the Gallup Poll.  I would certainly hate to have anyone hold my 1958 opinion against me today, or try to equate it with the attitudes and social mores of 2009, and then draw the conclusion that I am a "racist" based on some long-ago belief that was culturally appropriate and widely accepted for the time period in which it was held.

In measuring the stature or worth of any man or woman, we should look at who they are today, the sum and total of their lives, their deeds, their current beliefs and attitudes.  Robert Stacy McCain has never been a hater and has friends and supporters from every race and gender, from all walks of life.  He, through a life honorably lived, deserves the benefit of a doubt.  Only those with an axe to grind or some personal vendetta would feel otherwise.  I am proud to call Robert Stacy McCain my friend. Anyone who declares Stacy to be their enemy is my enemy as well.

Conclusions:  Robert Stacy McCain is not a racist under any definition of the word.

What was Patterico's Motivation?  What was Patterico's motive in giving credence to the false or exaggerated claims about R.S. McCain?  Was it to establish his own credentials as an enlightened knight in shining armor, a morally superior individual to whom one must bow in wonder and awe?  (If so, this is called "moral exhibitionism."  It is common among college sophomores.)

I have noticed over the years that those who seek to drape themselves in the glorious robes of righteousness will often create a straw man to knock down.  It is difficult to be a hero if there are no villains to punish, and if there are no villains, it becomes necessary to create one.  For Charles Johnson and Patterico, McCain fits the bill nicely.

The Outting of Robert Stacy McCain: White Supremacist or Object of Smear?

The Left really hates Sarah Palin and will do whatever it takes to poison the well of public opinion.  So they are now trying to affix in the minds of the public some sort of connection of Palin with "racism."  It is complete bull shit, of course.

The connection they are trying to make is that Palin's ghost writer for "Going Rogue," one Lynn Vincent, also co-authored a book with Robert Stacy McCain called "Donkey Cons," a book about corruption in the Democratic Party.  They are saying that McCain is a racist and that Vincent is therefore tainted with McCain's views, and therefore the book "Going Rogue" is suspect, as is Sarah Palin.

However, as one who actually observed McCain over a decade ago, arguing against racism and white supremacy, I know that the charges against McCain are irresponsible, unfounded smear.

I have written another rebuttal of these smears based on my actual, direct knowledge of McCain.  I fear I may have embarrassed him in the process, as I have outted him as a broad-minded, racially tolerant, decent man.  He is not now, nor has he ever been, a racist or white supremacist.

As Palin moves toward a possible presidential run in 2012, the Left will revisit these smears in an effort to discredit Palin indirectly.  Therefore, I have to speak out because Sarah Palin's potential candidacy is more important than even my friend Stacy McCain or his "notorious" reputation.

Ben Smith at Politico Libels Robert S. McCain

Ben Smith of Politico, who obviously panders in unfounded rumor and libel, wrote this about Stacy McCain:

Max Blumenthal goes after Sarah Palin's co-author, Lynn Vincent, in a broadside that focuses largely on her 2006 collaboration with a conservative blogger, Robert Stacy McCain, whose views on race . . . have since made him a pariah even on the right.

I have thoroughly rebutted this smear more than once, but I will do so again.  Robert Stacy McCain has no suspect views on race.  He never has.

One of the most oft-cited sources for this big lie is that Stacy contributed commentary to a white supremacist site, "Reclaiming the South," which is no longer online.  Stacy did not contribute to this site, this site merely appropriated Stacy's arguments in favor of racial equality.  I know, because the white supremacist in question also appropriated my arguments for racial equality and did the same thing to me.  The original debate was from a private listserv; all the white supremacist did was copy and paste the text to his website.  He was so proud of his arguments that he wanted to share them with other white supremacists.

Funny, the racist site disappeared after I contacted the owner and asked that he remove my real name from his website, as I feared people googling my name would draw the wrong conclusions, i.e. that I agreed with his racial views. Indeed, this is exactly what happened to Stacy McCain.  People with an agenda now want to associate McCain with this racist site EVEN THOUGH

• R.S. McCain's arguments were copied from elsewhere and pasted to the racist site without Stacy's permission, and
• McCain's arguments were IN OPPOSITION to racism and white supremacy, not in favor of them.

This was back around 1995.  I remember it well.  Although there were several of us arguing against racism and white supremacy, I thought Robert Stacy McCain actually held the most liberal views on race of our group.  He even used Stephen Jay Gould's arguments to rebut the book The Bell Curve.  Personally, I thought Stephen Jay Gould something of an idiot and suspected McCain to be a closet liberal by the fact he cited Gould.  However, my suspicions have since been laid to rest by Stacy's recent comments, i.e.:

I believe that liberals are wrong about black people. Liberals are also wrong about white people, brown people, yellow people and red people. If NASA announced tomorrow that it had discovered a distant planet inhabited by purple people, anything that liberals believed about purple people would be wrong, too. Liberals are not only wrong about race, but they are also wrong about economics, crime, poverty, religion, science, war, marriage and foreign policy. In fact, as evidenced by their global-warming hysteria, liberals are wrong about the weather. Insofar as there is a "liberal consensus" on any particular subject -- including movies and sports -- then the truth is likely to be the exact opposite of whatever liberals say.

During that long-ago debate on race, I distinctly remember McCain stating that his religious beliefs in Christianity made it impossible for him to accept the notion of black inferiority.  If ever there were a good and decent man unfairly slandered by liberal/left chicanery, it is the unfair racism charges against Robert Stacy McCain.

Stacy, I would like to offer a belated apology for thinking you might be a closet liberal.  However, I will not apologize for outting you as a decent man, your outrageous reputation notwithstanding.
