I worked with a Muslim CPA for over a week to determine if our management styles and business philosophies were compatible. They weren't, and we parted amicably.
I did the work for no pay, considering it to be research into the possibility of a business association.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Nah, AOW. If I had accepted any pay it would have again ended my unemployment, and for what, a very small, short-term gig. I learned from the last one, don't accept the job if it looks flaky. I wasn't doing anything anyway, so it was worth investigating.
