Steve Benson of Arizona Republic: Leftist Hater and Propagandist

Steve Benson's Hate Cartoon
Steven Benson, cartoonist for the liberal Arizona Republic newspaper, libels conservatives with a pencil rather than with the written word.  Benson is one of the most odious propagandists of the far-left; make no mistake, he is a hater extraordinare.  Of course, leftists always believe that their brand of hatred is justified and enlightened.

Take the cartoon at left that Benson published right after the Arizona shootings.  It is slanderous in the extreme and expresses the left's unhinged hatred of Sarah Palin.

Now let's take a look at my depiction of this smarmy little leftist using Photoshop (feel free to use and spread far and wide):

Oh yes, Steve Benson is a Pulitizer Prize winning cartoonist.  The Pulitzer Prize is always given to the far left, never to conservatives.  Even the extremist Ted Rall was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1996, and that tells you all you need to know about the Pulitzer Prize.

Damn, I'm so tired of the Left's demonizing of the right.

Apparently the critic of Pultizer Prize cartoonist winners is not aware that Mike Ramirez, one of the most notable conservative editorial cartoonists in the country, as won the Pultizer--twice,, even.

He's also a friend of mine, despite the fact that we often disagree. :)

Steve, your slander of Palin goes far beyond mere disagreement. It is war.

The point to which I was initially responding was the one made on this blog by a conservative critic of the Pulizter winner- selection process, who deprecatingly noted that all one needs to know about the Pulitzer is that Ted Ralls (a liberal) has been a Pulitzer finalist.

What the critic failed to mention(probably because he didn't know) is that arguably the most conservative syndicated editorial cartoonist in the country, Mike Ramirez, is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer. (Mike and I, by the way, are also past presidents of the American Associaton of Editorial Cartoonists. I guess that's also all you need to know about the AAEC). :)

As to the cartoon itself, perhaps Ms. Palin needs to read her own website. Mere days following the Tucson massacre (in which District 8 representiive Gabrielle Giffords was seriously wounded, six were killed and many more injured), Ms. Palin was up on her own produced video defending that political gun site map of hers which formed the basis for my cartoon (and which I accurately depicted in my drawing, as it at one time appeared on her website).

Unfortunately for muzzle-mouth Ms. Palin, that political gun site map was taken down by Ms. Palin's website managers even though she went public trying strenuously to justify it. I appreciate Ms. Palin wanting to stick to her guns, despite the fact that her own website handlers chose not to.

I find it amusing that at least one fiercely outspoken gun-rights advocate, in their criticism of the cartoon, misidentified the weapon depicted as a Glock semi-auto. Look closely, please. It is not a Glock. It is a revolver. (It was the Tucson shooter who used a Glock). I personally own a Glock--and carried two (as both a primary and as a back-up) when I was a fully-sworn police officer (reserve) for nine years for a PD in the greater Phoenix area.

Steve, my point in this post was to denounce you as a leftist hater, a practitioner of the politics of personal destruction, and someone immensely dishonest. Palin's map was not intended to represent anything but a metaphor and no one, including Jared Loughner, took it as an invitation to shoot Democrats. Your attempt to tie the map to the Tuscon tragedy was worse than disgusting, it was vile.

I have printed on this website, as have many others, a similar Democrat map with much more obvious bulls eyes on targeted districts during the Clinton campaign; no one ever complained about it, because we all know what a metaphor is, and Republicans don't generally accuse Democrats of being complicit in mass murder.

Ms. Palin a muzzle mouth? It is more that Steve Benson is a rigid, ideological leftist who can't see beyond his own extreme bias.

Steve, one more thing. That's nice that you own a pussy Glock; I own a 1911 Army Colt 45. However, you need not tout your weaponry, conservatives do not practice violence, the Norway psychopath notwithstanding.

I'd say you are pretty safe, if that's what you're worried about.

Wow, Stogie.

And this blog's operator notes how folks manage to get under others folks' skin. Looks like your skin just was gotten under big-time by, of all things, a cartoon.

I've found over the years that that tends to happen a lot among conservatives.

Chin up.

Steve, (if you really are Steve Benson, which I am beginning to doubt), your cartoon was published far and wide and conveys a very vile and false message, that (1) Palin targeted Democrats and (2) that she advocated shooting them. You use your poison pen for drawn propaganda instead of written propaganda, but the effect is the same.

From Steve to Stogie (and, yes, you've got the right Steve):

Thanks for highlighting how editorial art prompts (as it has here) focus on issues important to you (and me) in such chats as these.

Wait. You called it a “war.”

That's quite the metaphor (just like your fork-tongued “blackboard dracula”).

No wonder you're “drawn” to cartoons.

Steve, yes it's a war, because "politics is war by other means" ( Carl von Clausewitz). And because Democrats want it that way.

Glad you liked the blackboard Dracula. It was the least I could do in light of your Palin cartoon.

Glad you're into cartoonmetaphors.

You've got promise. :)

In conclusion, I would simply note that if Ms. Palin's website handlers are not going to support her on her political gun site map (which they did not, given that they promptly yanked it off her webpage after the Tucson massacre), I don't feel obligated to support her on it, either.

Nonetheless, this metaphorical political cartoon "war" chat (as you choose to call it) has been both interesting and enjoyable.

Please keep in mind, if you will, that editorial cartoons are ultimately designed to get people talking, writing and otherwise communicating/opinionating about important issues of the day.

Thanks for doing so--and for allowing me the chance to join in with you on that discussion.
