Is Venezuela on the Brink of Civil War?

Well, well, it appears that popular opposition to Venezuela's communist leaders is reaching a critical point. Bigger and bigger crowds of demonstrators are rallying against the socialist insanity, and the Marxists are nervous.  This reminds me of Chile in 1973, when communist leadership had ruined the economy and left the people in dire straits.  Massive protests occurred there too, when grocery store shelves were empty and there were no more jobs.  Finally, the Chilean military decided it had to act, and deposed the moronic Marxist Salvador Allende.  American leftists to this day swear to God Almighty that Chile would have become a socialist paradise had not President Nixon "declared economic warfare" on the "democratically elected" Socialist Allende.  Socialism never works, but leftists never run out of excuses for the failure.

Venezuela is now experiencing the same kind of economic dislocation, because socialism destroys prosperity, it never, ever creates it.  You can order a doubling of the minimum wage, as Allende did, and the result will  be widespread unemployment and  businesses closing their doors.  Socialism is a radical religion that believes in a kind of perpetual motion, that you can eliminate production and magically have more, that you can kill the Kulaks and dispossess the producers, and somehow the goodies will just keep flowing like manna from heaven.

Socialism always fails, but there is no end of the fools who will continue to impose it on the populace, thinking that this time it will work.  And if it doesn't, if millions starve, well then, you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs.

Funny, every new generation has its share of collectivists who want to repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the past.  Communism in the 20th century resulted in mass starvation, huge concentration camps of political prisoners, mass executions and virtual slavery for workers.  100 million people died under this tyranny.  In spite of this, there will always be a fresh crop of stooges who get the bright idea that "sharing" the wealth is a good idea.   However, if these morons bothered to read some history, they would learn that collectivism produces only grinding poverty, no opportunity and no hope.

We are in a terrible economic situation now, and we will just have to weather it until Obama can be voted out of office.  As long as that Marxist stooge sits in the Oval Office, any chance for economic improvement is nil.

Non-Negotiable Union Demands

There's an interesting post at American Thinker today.  It brings a lot of political and ethnic threads together to reveal a tapestry of sedition and hatred for all things American.

The post, "Commies on Parade" links to a blog "Ringo's Pictures" showing the marriage of Communists, Mexican reconquistas and union thugs, as they march together in Los Angeles, sporting red flags and Mexican flags.  The May Day marchers carry posters advocating Communism, Mexican reclamation of parts of the United States (reconquista), and extra pizzas and bigger t shirts (or something) for the fat SEIU members.

In short, the May Day parade in Los Angeles featured the something-for-nothing slugs of society who want to take what they want when they want it, and get in the faces of anyone who refuses to part with his hard-earned property or wealth.  As the author Ralph Alter puts it:

Blogging at Ringo's Pictures, the blogger Ringo provides scores of remarkable photographs detailing the events at the annual May Day parade held in downtown Los Angeles on May 1, 2011. The images are frightening and illustrate the latitude we have allowed serious hate-groups and espousers of virulent anti-Americanism to move about freely and publicly call for the overthrow of the American political system.

Alter also links to Zombie's post (with pictures) of a California teachers' rally that also displayed anti-capitalist, anti-American signs and placards, "How a Teachers' Rally Made Me Anti-Education."

Zombie describes the role of the education system in the leftist brainwashing of school students.  She writes:

...public schools have ceased to be places for educating America’s youth but have instead become indoctrination centers where our children’s brains are marinated in political correctness and leftist thought patterns.

Zombie's post got me to thinking about the recent controversy at Soquel High School where several students were suspended.  I blogged about Soquel High School's heavy-handed treatment of several of its students for alleged "white supremacy" leanings, based in part on their wearing white t shirts to the school's group picture.  They were also criticized for wearing American flag themed t shirts to school on "Cinco de Mayo," a Mexican national holiday.  Their critics claimed that American flags were offensive to the Mexican kids attending Soquel High.   Imagine that, displaying American flags in America is now evidence of "white supremacy."

So why does this small group of white students feel a need to act out against the prevailing culture of Soquel High?  Could it be that these students have been made to feel marginalized, alienated and ostracized because they are white and patriotic Americans?  Were they merely seeking ways to resist the anti-American, anti-white, pro-reconquista attitudes of their leftwing teachers and administrators?

The posts I mention here today provide evidence of the hostile environment in which California school kids are being marginalized by their educators.

I'm what Rush calls a "seasoned citizen." I have grandkids. So I have seen a lot of politics in my lifetime. It's interesting to notice the parallels between today and times past.

During the Cold War, the Russians were often threatening and bellowing and promising to destroy us. Every time they launched some new aggression, it was said to be a response to ours. What was theirs was theirs and what was ours was negotiable. They made lots of missiles and so did we.

Conservatives saw the Soviet's ultimate goal as world domination and the destruction of capitalism everywhere. Since the communists were violent, untrustworthy and aggressive, conservatives believed in a strong military and advanced weapon systems. The latter were to act as a military deterrent to Soviet aggression.

Liberals on the other hand, saw the Cold War as some big misunderstanding. Somehow, we and the Soviets had come to inadvertently distrust one another. They were just like us, shared the same values of peace and prosperity. We had to show the Soviets that they had nothing to fear from us, that we meant them no harm.

Liberals believed that if we would disarm and destroy our nuclear stockpiles, the Soviets would soon follow suit. But liberals went further than that, they convinced themselves that it was our fault the big misunderstanding happened in the first place. It was because we supported some undemocratic regimes, or interfered in communism's internal affairs -- by supporting opposition groups, or spying on them, or boycotting their goods. If and when communism failed, it was because of our subversion, not because communism just doesn't work.

Conservatives pointed to the bloody history of Soviet communism, the planned starvation, the mass murders, the totally ruthless rulers, the complete lack of human liberty. In fact, communism was a double whammy: not only did it reduce populations to the point of starvation, it also removed all liberty.

The ruthless history of communism, the millions dead, all were there to see and study. But liberals didn't want to see or to know. Facts disturb happy thoughts. They wanted to believe that they could control the unhappy situation by accepting blame and paying penance. Conservatives thought that liberals were naive and self-delusional. Conservatives thought that liberals wanted to commit national suicide and take the rest of us with them.

Today, the new enemy is Islam. It, like communism, is a strong ideology, something believed on faith rather than fact. Like the communists, the Muslims believe they have not only the right but the duty to make the rest of the world just like them. So they attack New York, London, Madrid, Mumbai and Beslan, and kill many strangers who caused them no harm. This is nothing new for Islam; they have been attacking nations and peoples for 14 centuries, all for the same religious reasons: to force the world to submit to the will of Allah.

Today liberals are the same. They make excuses for the Muslims the same way they once made excuses for the Soviets. It's all a big misunderstanding; it's all our fault. All we have to do is show them we mean them no harm; if we make major concessions, they will come to trust us and follow suit. Let them build a monument to our destruction on the site where the first strike occurred. This will assure them that we mean them no harm.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Jamie Glasov Explains: Why the Left is Just Plain Nuts

Note: I previously posted this article under the heading "The Psychological Pathologies of the Far Left." Then I remembered that most Americans voted for Barack Obama and are too dumb to know what that means. So retitled my article in simpler English that means the same thing and have reposted it here.

I started reading my new book last night. It’s by Jamie Glasov and is entitled “United In Hate,” about the coalition between the far left and militant Islam (see my previous post below on the subject). The book is good at explaining the mind set and the psychology of the far left. That mind set includes:

1. Self-hatred or self-loathing, leading to a desire to efface the self, to submerge the individual into the anonymity of the masses where personal identity and responsibility disappear. In the most extreme case, the leftist desires death, especially dying for the cause, as that goal gives him a tremendous sense of significance and purpose.

2. Estrangement from society as a whole, leading to sympathy for antagonistic or hostile systems that the leftist imagines will fulfill all of his psychological needs. Since he hates his own society he is naturally sympathetic to other systems that share his hate.

3. The desire for a political system where the individual will feel validated and empowered and given a feeling of purpose. The most powerful systems thrill him the most, particularly those that engage in mass killing and oppression. By identifying with these systems he attains a vicarious feeling of power. Glasov notes that both Stalin and Mao enjoyed their greatest praise and pilgrimages from western leftists precisely at the peak of their mass murder and oppression.

4. Guilt for being well off. Self-hating leftists imagine themselves to be victims of a society that has failed to provide them with a feeling of fulfillment or purpose; they naturally identify with other “victims.” However, western leftists live in the most prosperous nations on earth, and it is hard to feel like a victim under those circumstances. So they make unreasonable demands on the power structure so they can picket and march and preach hate of the establishment. They especially like to be arrested as this adds to their desired feeling of victimhood.

Glasov takes several key ideas from Eric Hoffer’s classic “The True Believer.” Just understanding the psychology of self-destructive leftists is worth the price of the book. I will write more about this book as I finish it.
