Note to Liberals: You Are Responsible for Anders Breivik's Violent Rampage

I just read some silly screed by Alex Pareene at the foolish liberal website, Salon.com.  Pareene insists that Anders Breivik (the Norway shooter) is a Christian, and his article shows Breivik's face framed by the outline of a cross.

What was Pareene's point?  He doesn't say.  Perhaps it was to say that Christian terrorists are a danger to the world (a conclusion that is nonsense) or that Christian dogma can lead to acts of terrorism (again, sheer nonsense).  Pareene seems to be simply taking a potshot at Christians because liberals detest Christians and/or the Christian religion.  There is no point in identifying Breivik as a Christian unless his religious beliefs were a factor in his shooting rampage.  Clearly, they were not.  Breivik stated in his manifesto that he was not particularly religious.  He wrote:

I fully support that the Church gains more or less monopoly on religion in Europe (government policies, school curriculum etc at least) in addition to granting the Church several concessions which have been taken from them the last decades.

As for the Church and science, it is essential that science takes an undisputed precedence over biblical teachings. Europe has always been the cradle of science and it must always continue to be that way.

Regarding my personal relationship with God, I guess I’m not an excessively religious man. I am first and foremost a man of logic. However, I am a supporter of a monocultural Christian Europe.

The truth is, it was not Breivik's religion that caused him to murder 77 people last week; it was leftist politicians who convinced him that those who dissent from liberal orthodoxy will always be marginalized, stigmatized, ridiculed and slandered. He gave up on working through the political process, believing that process to be too compromised to ever be effective in reversing the damage caused by Marxism, multiculturalism and massive Islamic immigration.  He wrote:

An increasing number of Europeans are opening their eyes to the reality that the democratical struggle through dialogue has been lost. The cultural Marxists have institutionalised multiculturalism and have no intention of ever allowing us to exercise any political influence of significance. In theory we, the cultural conservatives of Europe, have become slaves under an oppressive, tyrannical, extreme left-wing system with absolutely no hope of reversing the damage they have caused. At least not democratically..

It is meaningless to participate in the democratical process when you are not allowed to raise important issues without being subjected to political and social persecution through stigmatisation and ridicule. It is time to acknowledge that we, the cultural conservatives of Western Europe, are deceiving ourselves to believe that it is remotely possible to change the system democratically....We have never and will never be allowed to ever exercise any influence. The cultural Marxist/multiculturalist elites nationally and in Brussels have for the last five decades created a resilient system whose objective is to ridicule, persecute, harass and silence us. They will continue to systematically marginalise us until the day when we are no longer a threat to them.

So what did the liberals do after Breivik's shooting spree?  They proved him right in his conclusions stated above.  They began an extensive campaign to blame Breivik's anger on conservatives -- anger that the left itself caused.  In so doing, they did what Breivik claimed:  they slandered us in an attempt to stigmatize, ridicule, and ultimately, silence us.

It was this cynical, Machiavellian, dishonest and slanderous leftist propaganda that eventually pushed Breivik over the edge.  It is liberals and the left who are responsible for the killing spree that followed.

Norway Shooter Quotes the Los Angeles Times! Guilt by Association?

After the L.A. Times despicable editorial impugning guilt by association to various bloggers, I decided to do a word search through Breivik's manifesto, and sure enough, he also quotes from the Los Angeles Times!

Breivik quotes an L.A. Times article describing Muslim desecration of a Cathrolic church, the Hagia Sophia.  Et Tu, Brute?  Ah, the L.A. Times must have inspired mass murder with its truthful article about Islamic atrocities!

Will the Times now write an editorial impugning guilt to itself, and promising "introspection" as to its role in this tragedy?

Don't count on it.

"Reflecting Light" on Bloggers' Alleged Inspiration of Mass Murder in Norway

The blog "Reflecting Light" has but one post on the Norway murders, but it is worth reading.  In defense of anti-jihad blogs, the author writes:

Gates of Vienna, its frequent contributor Fjordman, Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch, "cultural conservatives" and many others who oppose the Islamization of the west are extremists only in the eyes of the leftist/Muslim united front. They ask us to face an uncomfortable truth: that there are almost no positives about Muslim immigration and many negatives; that Muslims will not "integrate," except in the most superficial ways, into Western cultures; and that Islam is an all-embracing politico-religious system stuck in a stage of intolerance that other cultures have long since gotten over.

The anti-jihad movement has nothing to apologize for.

Anders Breivik Appears in Court; Denied Request to Wear Uniform; Begins "Propaganda Phase" of His Operation

Anders Breivik appeared in a Norwegian court today.  He admitted responsibility for the mass murder of Norwegian citizens but denied doing anything criminal.  Like the Islamists he pretends to oppose, Breivik apparently thinks one may murder anyone anytime, for any reason, so long as he believes it is in service of a high cause.

Now, according to Breivik's written manifesto, begins the "propaganda phase" of his operation.  He writes:

Post-operational phases – propaganda and consolidation

7a. Apprehension

If you for some reason survive the operation you will be apprehended and arrested. This is the point where most heroic Knights would call it a day. However, this is not the case for a Justiciar Knight. Your arrest will mark the initiation of the propaganda phase.

7b. Your trial offers you a stage to the world

A Lunatic Smirks

The sections he cites, however, have nothing to do with "offering a stage to the world."  They relate to commemorating "martyrs" and blowing up nuclear power plants.

Breivik, perhaps in imitation of Napoleon, has invented a grandiose uniform for members of his newly reconstituted "Knights Templar," along with medals, all of which he appears to have awarded himself.  In his manifesto, he has a picture of himself wearing the uniform.  He appeared in a Norwegian court today and had requested permission to wear the uniform, but was turned down.  See photo above.

I saw this picture of Breivik in a police car as he arrived at court.  He has a proud smirk on his face, very much like the one on Lee Harvey Oswald's face after murdering President Kennedy.

There's nothing wrong with this boy that a long drop and a shorter rope won't fix.  However, the maximum prison sentence in Norway (even for murder) is said to be only 21 years.  Breivik will be out before you know it.

Norway Shooter's Plan For Armed Insurrection and Violence

I am continuing to read the manifesto of the Norwegian shooter, Anders Behring Breivik.  In Section 3.16, he outlines his plan for armed insurrection and conquest of existing European governments.  He writes:

The PCCTS, Knights Templar serve as an independent pan-European Military and Criminal Tribunal in the current Western European civil war. We have come to the conclusion that the democratical struggle to save Europe has been lost. Our purpose and goal is to defeat the cultural Marxist/Multiculturalist Alliance of Europe, seize political and military control of Western European countries and implement a cultural conservative political agenda.

PCCTS activities will continue in all three phases of the European civil war until our objectives have been completed.

Pretty ambitious goal for one man.  Talk about delusions of grandeur.  Later on, he describes "military objectives":

Military objectives

There have already been thousands of pre-emptive strikes from brave Europeans all over Europe. However, the majority of attacks have been impotent “poop in mailbox” operations with zero to little ideological effect. In order to successfully penetrate the cultural Marxist/multiculturalist media censorship we are forced to employ significantly more brutal and breath taking operations which will result in casualties. In order for the attack to gain an influential effect, assassinations and the use of weapons of mass destruction must be embraced. When employing such methods the Justiciar Knight becomes a force multiplier, he becomes a one- man army. The continuation of these “humiliating strikes” on the Multiculturalist system will contribute to destroy the cultural Marxist hegemony in Europe.

We are dealing with a maniac.

Breivik also describes
 weapons and how to make and use bombs and set targets.  He writes:

Identify high priority off shore targets in the following countries:
France, UK, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Spain

Focused targets:

· Industrial/petro/gas/energy installations (on shore/off shore)
· Crude oil tankers/LNG carriers close to coasts or close to off shore oil installations.

Choose targets wisely and ensure that the secondary effects will have devastating effects.

A one man cell will have limited capabilities. However, providing a truck/boat loaded with explosives is within the capabilities of any single individual. It might take 1-2 years to safely acquire (without causing suspicion) the materials needed for this bomb but the resource vs. effect ratio is magnificent. In theory a 50 000 Euro operation has the potential to cause economical losses for to our enemy in the range 1-3 billion Euro.

Also, keep in mind that tankers carrying crude oil are sectioned (they might not sink if only one section is compromised) so it is essential to hit a cross section (two sections minimum) during a blast (or to ensure that you have enough load). This can f example be achieved by using a fishing boat loaded with explosives. Study the different oil platforms. Know that the crude oil and/or liquid gas is always stored in the hollow foundations/pillars of the platform (the 1-4 supporting blocks). Know that according to EU regulatives all oil platforms have mandatory emergency rescue ships within a certain radius for the purpose of rescuing personnel in case of disaster so the civilian casualties will be minimal.

Breivik also lists a number of bombs and chemicals that can be used to make bombs.  He was a very determined revolutionary.  How strange that he became what he hated most:  a terrorist.  However, he was clear that only some European countries should be attacked:

Such devastating sabotage attacks, which have the potential to cripple a countries [sic] economy, should not be employed by resistance fighters in countries where there are realistic possibilities for a democratical regime shift or where the people have not undergone two decades of severe mental conditioning (brainwashing) and should therefore be limited to Western Europepan countries.

These types of economically devastating operations should be employed in countries beyond hope of saving through democratical means (due to decades of severe ideological brainwashing) such as:  Germany, France, UK, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria etc.

Professor Chaos

Breivik appears to have no strategy beyond mass murder and destruction.  Were he not so repugnant and horrible, Breivik's strategy might resemble those of the blond and comically evil "Professor Chaos" of South Park fame.  There is no scenario by which the "Knights Templar" are to take power and begin governing the nations of Europe.  His screed begins logically and even reasonably before it veers off into madness.  It is as if he were building a reasonable math equation but whose final result is absurd, e.g., 2 + 2 = banana.


Note:  Breivik's manifesto contains detailed descriptions on how to make bombs out of fertilizers and other materials, and probably should be censored or banned lest it fall into the hands of violent people.

Norway Shooter Felt Democracy Offered "No Hope," Advocated Armed Struggle

I obtained a pdf copy of the political manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, the Norway shooter and mass-murderer of over 100 Norwegians this week.  I converted it to Word format and have extracted several key passages that shed light on Breivik's mindset.

Breivik's manifesto contains much truth about the advance of cultural Marxism and the brainwashing of the West with multiculturalism and mind control, i.e., "political correctness."  However, Breivik discloses a growing alienation from democratic processes, which he felt were too weak and too compromised to be an effective avenue for redress of conservative grievances.  He broaches the subject of violence this way:

War or armed resistance has traditionally always been used as a last resort, used when dialogue has proven to be ineffective. The justification for use of armed resistance against the European cultural Marxist/multiculturalist systems is tied to the outlook for cultural conservative political success. You have to ask yourself; is it remotely possible under the current conditions that a conservative, monocultural political party will ever gain substantial political influence? An increasing number of Europeans are opening their eyes to the reality that the democratical struggle through dialogue has been lost. The cultural Marxists have institutionalised multiculturalism and have no intention of ever allowing us to exercise any political influence of significance. In theory we, the cultural conservatives of Europe, have become slaves under an oppressive, tyrannical, extreme left-wing system with absolutely no hope of reversing the damage they have caused. At least not democratically..

To his question of  "is it remotely possible under the current conditions that a conservative, monocultural political party will ever gain substantial political influence?"  I have to answer, "no."  However, that terrible truth in no way supports Breivik's criminal solution, the mass murder of innocents.

Breivik continues his rationalization of violence:

It is meaningless to participate in the democratical process when you are not allowed to raise important issues without being subjected to political and social persecution through stigmatisation and ridicule. It is time to acknowledge that we, the cultural conservatives of Western Europe, are deceiving ourselves to believe that it is remotely possible to change the system democratically.

The continuation of the ongoing peaceful dialogue with the cultural Marxists/multiculturalists only serves to further diminish our demographical advantages. They are growing stronger while we are being weakened every year. It is counter-productive, even lethal to waste another five decades on meaningless dialogue while we are continuously losing our demographical advantage. We have never and will never be allowed to ever exercise any influence. The cultural Marxist/multiculturalist elites nationally and in Brussels have for the last five decades created a resilient system whose objective is to ridicule, persecute, harass and silence us. They will continue to systematically marginalise us until the day when we are no longer a threat to them.

The following arguments will further underline why any democratical or peaceful cultural conservative victory of significance is impossible...

After Timothy McVeigh blew up the federal building in Oklahoma, his violence was blamed on "right wing rhetoric."  However, his violence was really based on leftwing, governmental extremism at both Waco and Ruby Ridge.  This is not to justify his evil act, but to provide an accurate description of his motivations.

Now we have Anders Behring Breivik, another individual of McVeigh's ilk.  His violence will again be blamed on "right wing rhetoric," but once again his actions are based on leftist political activities and a feeling of hopelessness in bringing change through democratic processes.  Breivik's huge crime was largely caused by Gramscian  leftist political strategy, which has been highly successful in undermining western culture and institutions over the past 75 years.  Now, in response to that crime, we can expect more Gramscian propaganda and a continued feeling of alienation by conservative nationalists, who will be vilified once again for resisting the death of the West, and again painted as mad men bent on violence, of whom Breivik is but the most recent example.

Those on the left should resist the temptation to make political hay out of this tragedy. It is the politics of smear and personal destruction that are leading us to a place where some may see violence as the only possible way to bring about needed change.

The left manufactured Anders Behring Breivik.  It is they who should take a long look in the mirror.

Mass Murder In Norway

Very strange happenings this week. A reader and commenter at the respected blog Gates of Vienna committed mass murder in Norway.  Gates of Vienna reports:

The mass murderer at Utøya is now said to have been a Norwegian named Anders Behring Breivik. He is reported to have posted frequent comments at various anti-jihad websites up until sometime last year. The Scandinavians tell me that these comments showed mainstream counterjihad sentiments, with no incitements to violence or evidence of homicidal insanity.

Indeed, the shooter had revealed himself in public comments that he was pro-Israel, anti-Nazi, anti-racist and anti-Jihad.  He publicly disparaged "ideologies of hate" like Communism, Nazism and Islam.

In spite of his reasonable public statements, Breivik then dressed himself in a policeman's uniform and began to execute civilians at a summer camp in Norway, many of them children.  These people were not Muslims, as one might surmise.  They were children of the Center-Left labor party of Norway.

What on earth did Breivik hope to accomplish?  Around 100 people are dead, making this one of the worst mass murder episodes in recent history.  There is no rational explanation for these deeds.  They were acts of a deranged mind.

Crazy people come from all walks of life, apparently.  They can explode without warning and begin killing people.  There is almost nothing we can do to stop them, except possibly passing right-to-carry laws.  When the only one with a gun is mentally deranged, those without guns find themselves at a distinct disadvantage.  Like the dead in Norway.

Almost as bad will be the leftist/liberal hateful propaganda that will be born of this.  Pamela Geller had a worthy quote on this.  She said:

But this is war. And the left is vicious, amoral and depraved. They mean to win, and that is the only way they know how.

A Somali (read:  Muslim) teen, who is a naturalized citizen of the United States, attempted to bomb a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon.  Ah, the spirit of the season!  Brotherly love, peace on earth, goodwill towards men!  Or not.

To capture the perpetrator's sentiments, I included his mug shot in the Photoshop below, complete with an Islamic Christmas tree symbolizing the wishes of so many Muslims worldwide on this festive season of the year.

Would-Be Muslim Terrorist Attempts Bombing of Wrigley Field

Another disciple of Islam arrested in Chicago bomb plot:

A 22-year-old man who allegedly spoke of wanting to assassinate Chicago’s mayor was charged by federal prosecutors with plotting to detonate a bomb near Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

Sami Samir Hassoun blamed Richard M. Daley for “weakening” the city’s security and planned to use the attack to drive him from office, according to the complaint against him. He was arrested Sept. 19 by members of the Chicago-area Joint Terrorism Task Force.

“He wanted to transform the City of Chicago. He wanted to make a statement,” Robert Grant, special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Chicago office, told reporters after Hassoun appeared before a federal magistrate yesterday. He intended to “kill as many people as he could” by planting the explosive in a neighborhood full of bars, clubs and restaurants, Grant said.

Hassoun, who is identified in an FBI statement as a Lebanese citizen living legally in Chicago, is charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and with trying to destroy real property using an explosive.

General George Casey: "Let Us Die for Political Correctness"

General Casey believes that dogmatic adherence to an asinine platitude is preferable to safeguarding the lives of American soldiers.

He had the audacity to say "What happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy, but I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here."

"Diversity is our strength."  No, actually it isn't.  Ask the families of the dead.

This man is a fool.

CBS's Bob Schieffer goes the "moral equivalence" route, attempting to downplay the Muslim connection to domestic terrorism.  News Busters has the story.

He's right you know.  There are these Christians who mass murder innocents, quoting the Bible as authorization for their actions.  The FBI has stopped a lot of Christian plots to blow up landmarks in the United States; Christians have fragged soldiers on the battle front, and have shot soldiers at Fort Hood and have flown planes into skyscrapers.

Wait a minute, no, those were all Muslims.  My mistake.

Nidal Hasan, Fort Hood Shooter Suspect, Regains Consciousness

Michelle Malkin had it right in saying that, because of our press bias, we have to read foreign newspapers to learn what is going on in the Fort Hood case.  So I read the UK Times online and learned that Nidal Hasan has regained consciousness in his hospital room and is talking to medical staff.  He is now breathing on his own:  he was taken off the ventilator on Saturday.

Some of the most incredibly asinine statements are issuing forth from the mouth of the US Army Chief of Staff.  The UK Times reports:

General George Casey, the US Army Chief of Staff, warned against jumping too quickly to conclusions, saying that it was important for the country not to get caught up in speculation about Major Hasan’s Muslim faith. He revealed that he has instructed his commanders to be on the lookout for anti-Muslim reaction to the killings at the Texas post.

Focusing on the Islamic roots of the suspected gunman could “heighten the backlash" against all Muslims in the military, he said in interviews on TV networks ABC and CNN, adding that diversity in the military “gives us strength”.

This idiot ought to be fired.  "Diversity gives us strength" is such blatant horse puckey.   Does that mean the military would be stronger with Neo-Nazis, Marxists, Taliban, Wahabbis, cannibals, head hunters, and Aztec practitioners of human sacrifice?  Ridiculous.  It is exactly this PC attitude that prevented Hasan's army colleagues from reporting him.  Political correctness kills.

Diversity in skin color is irrelevant, and diversity of opinion as to the godliness of Jihad and killing for Allah is NOT A GOOD THING.  When it comes to critical subjects like loyalty to the United States, diversity is NOT A GOOD THING, particularly for members of the armed forces.

Last Practitioner of Jihad, John Allen Muhammad, Dies Tomorrow

John Allen Muhammad, one of the two beltway snipers who randomly murdered 10 people seven years ago, will be executed tomorrow.  Here's another guy with an Arabic name who revered Osama Bin Laden (see his drawing at right), extolled the way of Jihad and praised Allah.  The Religion of Malice was personified in these two cretins, a fact ignored (again) by the mainstream media. (See Lee Malvo's praise of Jihad in the written note below.  Malvo was only 17 at the time so was spared the death penalty.)

Per Wikipedia, Jihad was the reason for the mass murder.  They write:

Tomorrow however, Allah's servant John Allen Muhammad will be strapped to a gurney in a Virginia prison and it will be lights out for the beltway sniper.  For some strange reason, however, Muhammad doesn't appear anxious to reap his 72 virgins and frolic with Allah in the Garden of Erotic Delights:  he has been appealing his conviction and pressing for a stay of execution.  Perhaps he is rethinking this whole martyrdom thing.  If so, it's a bit too late for that, Muhammad.  Salaam!

If We All Pretend, We Can Alter Reality to Something We Like

Or so many seem to think.  Denial is the way to edit reality.  If we all agree that something unpleasant isn't true, then by God, it isn't.  If we all agree that Nadal Malik Hasan's religion had nothing to do with 13 dead and 30 wounded at Fort Hood, then by gum it didn't.  For those who say that Islam is inherently violent and seditious, we can just put our hands over our ears and say "LA LA LA LA LA - I'M NOT LISTENING!"

David Horowitz says our country is "brain dead" for not seeing the Fort Hood tragedy coming.  He writes:

The Fort Hood massacre is the first of the preventable atrocities we have been warning about on our websites since 9/11 — the atrocities which are apparently necessary for Americans to wake up to the threat that confronts us. We have a vast internal threat in this country in the form of this unholy alliance between the anti-American Left and radical Islam – whose Muslim Brotherhood network extends through our universities, our government and our military. It is “politically incorrect” to recognize this fact. You can be barred — as I have been — from speaking at universities for even talking about it. The embargo of discussion of the Islamo-fascist threat puts every American (including the infidel collaborators) at risk. Hasan had semi-automatic weapons. But they weren’t nuclear. That possibility is just around the corner unless we undergo a sea change in our attitudes and marshal the intelligence and the courage to recognize the threat.

Yes, intelligence reports have been saying for some time that Al Qaeda wants to acquire nuclear weapons and detonate them in American cities.  Unless America pulls its head out of its ass, that will eventually happen.  Meanwhile, we have smaller fish to fry, like Nadal Malik Hasan and thousands of other potential jihadis in our military, our government and our universities.  But until we actually admit that a problem exists, there will be no solution.

Heroic Female Police Officer "in Stable Condition" After Shooting Terrorist

The civilian police officer who took down Malik Nidal Hasan was a woman, one Kimberly Munley.  Sgt. Munley ventilated Hasan quite effectively but took some gunfire herself in the process.

This heroic police officer is reported to be in stable condition in a local hospital.

As for the terrorist that she ventilated?  He's on a ventilator.

The UK Guardian tells the story:

The civilian police officer who shot and "subdued" the gunman responsible for the Fort Hood killings was today hailed as a hero.

Sergeant Kimberly Munley was praised for her "amazing and aggressive performance" by the top commander at Fort Hood, Lieutenant General Bob Cone, who credited her with stopping the shooting rampage that killed 13 people at the Texas post. Munley shot the gunman four times despite being wounded herself.

Cone said Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire yesterday afternoon. Munley had been directing traffic moments before she confronted the gunman, the New York Daily News reported.

Munley, who had been trained in active-response tactics, rushed into the building and confronted the shooter as he was turning a corner, Cone said.

"It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer," Cone said.

Munley was only a few feet from army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan when she opened fire.

UPDATED: Fort Hood Shooter: a Psychiatrist, a Muslim and Terrorist Sympathiser

Emerging facts indicate that Major Malik Nidal Hasan was both a psychiatrist and a Muslim, soon to be employed to Iraq, who expressed hostility to the US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan and sympathy for Muslim terrorists.

Colonel Terry Lee, US Army Retired, worked with Major Hasan at the Fort Hood Psychiatric Center where both served as psychiatrists.  He told Fox News that Hasan often made hostile comments about US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan and expressed sympathy for the enemy there, saying that Muslims "should rise up against the oppressor."  Hasan's cousin said that Hasan was not a convert to Islam, but that he "had always been a Muslim."

Other news coming in indicates that Hassan is the only known shooter.  However, some are doubting that one man with two handguns could have shot so many people without multiple reloads.  This may be clarified as the investigation gathers more facts.  Could he have had an automatic weapon as well?

Two other soldiers were taken into custody for questioning but have been released; they were not suspects but were witnesses.  A third individual has now been taken into custody for questioning.

The number of people Hasan killed was eleven.  The twelve dead previously reported included the shooter.

Update:  CNN is now reporting that Hasan is still alive!  Then why was he reported dead all day?  This is a strange twist.  General Bob Cone of Fort Hood is saying that Hasan is hospitalized in stable condition.  If this is true, perhaps we will learn the true reasons for his crime.

Update 2:  Not only was Nasan a Muslim, he was a devout and observant Muslim, per Jihad Watch.

Fort Hood Shooter "A Recent Convert to Islam"?

The Jewish Internet Defense Force quotes Fox News, saying the shooter who killed 12 people today at Ft. Hood Army Base was Army Major Malik Nadal Hasan of Jordanian descent.  Other unconfirmed reports say that Hassan was a recent convert to Islam.

Taking absurdity to a new level, the US Army is claiming that this was not a terrorist attack.

If you want a synonym for "Islam," it would be MURDER.  JMO.

Why do Muslims kill people when it is certain that they will die in the attempt?  Because Islam describes only one sure way to get to Heaven, and that is by dying as a martyr in jihad.  They believe that all sins of the jihadist are forgiven at the first drop of his blood. Further, a martyr doesn't have to withstand the scrutiny of judgment day as he goes straight to Heaven.  If Hasan is indeed a Muslim, that would explain his motivation.

Cyber-Terrorism Knocks Out Internet and Phones in Silicon Valley

Last Thursday vandals cut through four fiber optic cables owned by AT&T, wiping out internet and phone service for much of Silicon Valley and other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area. In what appears to have been a coordinated attack by tech savvy individuals, the cables were cut in the predawn hours. Internet services, cell phones, land lines, and ATMs were rendered inoperable in three northern California counties: Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. I was unable to log on to the internet at all on Thursday.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported:

Ten fiber-optic cables were cut at four locations in the predawn darkness. Residential and business customers quickly found that telephone service was perhaps more laced into their everyday needs than they thought. Suddenly they couldn't draw out money, send text messages, check e-mail or Web sites, call anyone for help, or even check on friends or relatives down the road.

Several people had to be driven to hospitals because they were unable to summon ambulances. Many businesses lapsed into idleness for hours, without the ability to contact associates or customers.

More than 50,000 landline customers lost service - some were residential, others were business lines that needed the connections for ATMs, Internet and bank card transactions.

This appears to have been an act of cyber-terrorism. Perhaps it was a practice run for bigger operations. If an enemy wanted to sow chaos in our society, knocking out the internet and phone lines would seem an effective strategy.

This morning all services appear to be restored and functioning.
