Two Black Men: One an Inspiration, the Other a Monster

This past week we have been introduced to two black men:  one is an inspiration and role model, the other an evil bastard who murdered innocents.

The inspiration was Dr. Benjamin Carson, a brilliant and highly skilled neurosurgeon, who criticized Obama's policies at a national prayer breakfast.  His criticism was gentle but accurate, resulting in praise from conservatives and criticism from the left.

Dr. Carson's life and career are truly amazing, and he is an inspiration not only to young blacks, but to any and all Americans desiring to maximize their human potential.  He has provided great value to the human race with his surgical innovations and his ability to teach medical students.  This is in addition to the many lives he has saved.  Because he has lived, the world is a better place.  Because he has lived, many who would be dead are alive.  You can read more about Dr. Carson at the Blaze, and see his speech at the national prayer breakfast and answer his critics on Hannity at this link.

The monster was Christopher Dorner, an ex-Los Angeles policeman inspired by leftist ideology and resentments, who murdered four people, two civilians in cold blood, one police officer in an ambush, and a sheriff deputy during a shoot-out in Big Bear Lake, California.

Dorner was motivated by revenge against the Los Angeles Police, who fired him five years ago for filing a false report.  Once he launched his killing spree, many lowlife blacks and leftist whites openly supported him on Twitter, urging him on and celebrating his survival and his killing of police officers.

Christopher Dorner was a loser, a low-life, a murderer.  The world would be a better place had he never been born.  It is a better place now that he is dead.  Had he never lived, four worthy, valuable people who would now be alive are dead.

Dorner and his supporters on Twitter underscore the fact that prejudice against the black race is largely deserved.  (A high rate of violence, racist hostility to whites, all accompanied by a really bad attitude -- what's not to like?) However, everyone is an individual, and there is an enlightened remnant of the black race who are truly exceptional human beings.  Ben Carson is one of those, while Dorner is merely another segment in the continuing saga of black criminals = dead cops.

Will the Aurora Incident Finally Kill the Second Amendment?

After a long parade of maniacs with guns, many Americans are ready for gun control.

As the Democrat Rahm Emmanuel said, "You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."

Removing guns from private ownership has been a long goal of the left. Like all of their prohibitions and compulsory laws, it's for our own good, dontcha know. The Aurora incident will be used to renew the clamor for increased gun control.

Many conservatives oppose any form of gun control for fear that, once the door has been opened, more and more restrictions will occur over time. Using the left's patient gradualism, they will have set in motion the process by which we will eventually be disarmed.

Many conservatives oppose gun registration, for fear that it will give government a list of gun owners, making it much easier to confiscate weapons once that government decides to do so.

I understand these concerns because they are valid. The question is, how can we keep guns out of the hands of maniacs without denying guns to peaceful, responsible citizens?

Should there be some sort of gun control, i.e., preventing the sale of Thompson machine guns to the public at large? How about preventing the sale of guns with huge ammo clips, ones that allow assailants to fire 60 bullets without reloading (like the one used by the Aurora shooter)? Why would such firepower be necessary for merely protecting one's home or business?

James Holmes purchased thousands of rounds of ammunition in preparation for his killing spree. Should there be a limit on the amount of ammunition that one can buy at a given time?

The gun control question is one of freedom vs security. More control might mean the purchase of more security (from armed psychotics) at the expense of less personal liberty. Would the transaction be worth it? Or is more freedom worth the risk that some will abuse that freedom to perpetrate evil?

Would the availability of guns to a well-armed public prevent such massacres in the future? Personally, I believe that it would. Surely the maniacs would understand that their killing spree would likely end in their own deaths. That wouldn't stop them all, especially if they want to die as martyrs. It would, however, slow them down. Right now, the Jared Loughners and Seung-Hui Chos and Dylan Klebolds know that they will be shooting fish in a barrel, i.e. that their targeted victims will be unarmed and unable to return fire.

In my opinion, we need to give them a new paradigm on which to construct their fantasies: one of a well-armed, gun savvy public who will kill them in short order should they draw down on innocents. I support right-to-carry laws, now more than ever. However, having said that, some reasonable controls over gun ownership are inevitable and probably desirable. Furthermore, those controls should be made at the state level, not the federal.

Woman With Gun Stops Mass Murder in Colorado

An apparent maniac entered a church in Colorado yesterday, heavily armed. He had opened fire on a divinity school the day before and the New Life Christian Church in Colorado Springs took precautions. They provided security guards, including a pretty blonde named Jeanne Assam. Jeanne, a former cop, was licensed to carry a gun and was doing so when the maniac, Matthew Murray, invaded the church and began firing at parishioners. He killed two young women and critically injured their father.

According to the news stories:

The shooter, Matthew Murray, had as many as a thousand rounds of ammunition
for his assault rifle. With at least thousands of people still in the common
areas after the second service and smoke devices ignited, he could have killed
many many more than the two who did die. But Jean Assam stood in his
way.

"I identified myself, I engaged him and then I took him down," she said
at the press conference. "I didn't run away. I didnt' think for a minute to run
away. I knew I was the one given the assignment to stop this thing."

Murray is now in the morgue and a lot of parishioners are still drawing breath. Thank God for Jeanne Assam, who not only possessed a firearm but fearlessly used it in a life or death situation. She's truly a hero.
