Tucker Carlson Blows It

I generally like Tucker Carlson and agree with him, but last night was different.  When discussing the Russian invasion of Ukraine he really lost credibility with me.  He seemed silly and frivolous and unserious.

Basically, Tucker believes we should do nothing to help the Ukrainians survive Russia’s naked aggression.  Why not?  Because Ukraine “is not our ally” and their fate  has no impact on whether a plumber can afford a vacation in 2022.  Or something like that.

Tucker was at his worst when he made fun of Nancy Pelosi’s calling the Ukraine “Russia’s Sudetenland.”  It was a “Nazi reference,” and that made Tucker laugh hysterically.  But Pelosi’s comparison was spot on.  Both regions were previously owned or controlled by the aggressors who believed they had a right to repossess them.

Last night Tucker acted like a jackass and lost some credibility because of it.  We should do everything within reason to help the Ukrainians even if  it means plumbers have to postpone their planned trips to Yellowstone.  It is the humanitarian thing to do, and Putin is not likely to stop with Ukraine if his aggression is allowed to succeed.

If you missed it on television, here's a link where you can watch Fox News's interview of Rush Limbaugh this morning.  Limbaugh is very critical of President Obama, calling him "a threat to liberty."

Fox News to be Fined $30 Million for Criticizing Obama? Story Appears False.

Here's a story allegedly from the Huffington Post, via Right Handed Pitcher.  However, I have doubts as to the story's accuracy and authenticity.  The link supplied to the Huffington Post didn't work.

In a press release given to the Huffington Post and other press outlets this morning [October 20], White House Communications Director Anita Dunn stated that the Federal Communications Commission was asked to fine the FOX Corporation for violations of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005. This came after repeated racist and derogatory attacks made on FOXNews over the last two years.

In accordance with the 2005 law, every time the network featured a "particularly offensive" or "flagrantly untruthful" segment, a fine is levied. White House officials estimate the 2008-2009 fine to be nearing $29 million.

I can find no other news stories that corroborate the above tale so I conclude that the story is false.   Don't repeat it as factual unless someone can produce credible proof.  This could be a false story planted for political mischief.

Glenn Beck Boycott a Failure for the Left; Little or No Effect on Ad Revenue

Some leftist organization called Color of Change organized a boycott of Glenn Beck's Fox News show a few weeks ago.  They are now claiming that Fox has lost 50% of its revenues as major advertisers pull out.  However, Fox News says those figures were released by "Color of Change" and are wildly inaccurate.  Fox News says there has been no loss of revenue as a result of the lib temper tantrum.

Leftist websites have been crowing about their great victory over free speech for the past two days.  Sorry to rain on your parade, Libtards, but it's just another left wing illusion.  Meanwhile, Beck's viewing audience continues its rapid growth unabated.

Dr. "Death" Kervorkian on Fox News; the "14 Steps to Fascism"

Today I watched Dr. Kervorkian interviewed by Neil Cavuto on Fox News. Cavuto was trying to tie Kervorkian's suicide assistance together with Obamacare and wasn't too successful. Cavuto was talking politics, Kervorkian was talking philosophy and often they just talked past each other.

At one point Cavuto asked Kervorkian why Dr. K had, in the past, likened the USA to Nazi Germany. Kervorkian cited the "14 steps to fascism" that some nutcase had promulgated. I Googled "14 steps to fascism" and came up with a list that appears dishonest and agenda-driven. It did not describe fascism; it seemed to be describing attributes of Bush and Republicans (or more accurately, the left's skewed beliefs about them) and trying to pass them off as fascism.

Some of the "fascist points" in the list:

Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

My comment: So if you are patriotic, you're a fascist. Riiiight. Schools and post offices everywhere must be fascist. Politicians with lapel flag pins must be fascists.

Religion and Government are Intertwined -- Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

This appears to be a slap at Bush for being a devout Christian. However, it appears untrue as a general rule about fascism. I am not aware that either Mussolini or Hitler, the two leading fascists, supported (or even exploited) Christianity to any significant degree. In fact, Nazi fascists were pagans and vegetarians -- not Christians. Both Hitler and Mussolini opposed Christianity.

I would refute this list point by point, but it doesn't appear to have been widely circulated or accepted, even among the left. What it does illustrate, however, is how people with a political agenda are often less than objective when describing some objectionable ideology. Their goal is to attribute the traits of that ideology to their opponents.

Meanwhile, if you want to understand the history, beliefs, traits and practices of fascism, do read Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism." I read it twice and will probably read it a third time.

Pamela Geller on Hannity Tonight

Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs was on the Hannity Show on Fox tonight.  I didn't see it but it no doubt will be available at Sean Hannity's site by tomorrow.

Pamela is really hitting the big time now.  I always suspected that she would.  Her star is on the rise!

And to think, we all knew her when!

UPDATE:  I caught the 9 PM PST recorded broadcast on Fox.  Pamela did great, arguing with some liberal on the panel.

Greta Van Susteren of Fox News interviews Todd Palin, husband of Governor Sarah Palin. It's a charming interview and gives the viewer a flavor of what it's like to live in Alaska and to be married to a rising political superstar.

Must See TV: Honor Killings In America

If you do nothing else today, be sure and watch the Fox News presentation "Honor Killings in America." It tells the story of Sarah and Amina Said who were murdered by their Egyptian father Yaser Said in Texas on January 1st of this year. It does more than that, though, it tells of other honor killings committed in America.

I have a link to where it can be watched online, but will only publish it after it has aired on television. Check your local listings for the time it will air in your area.

Islam is a sick religion that has spawned a very sick and pathological culture. It deserves our deepest contempt. Hearing young women screaming as they are stabbed or shot by their parents is quite disturbing; however, it is necessary to understand the nature of this evil culture.

Squawking Democrat Chickens Flee the Fox

The Democrats had planned a televised debate in Nevada with Fox News as a sponsor, but canceled the event that was set for August. The reason: without a Democrat house organ like CBS, NBC, ABC or CNN, someone might ask them some hard questions. Democrats don't do well without their fully supportive propaganda outlets. Someone might notice that they have nothing to offer but their own personal ambition. The Democrats hate Fox News, not because it is biased, but because it is not. Unless the game is loaded in their favor, the Democrats have no chance.

There isn't a Democrat in the race that has an ounce of substance. Shrillary Clinton fakes a Southern accent in a black church. Although comical, it was an improvement over her usual yelling to the crowd in an unconvincing charade of the righteously outraged liberal, battling the unfairness of it all to the little people, i.e., those who look to the government for free handouts.

Barack Hussein Obama's only claim to fame is that he's black, or 50% anyway. John Edwards is as full of hot air as his blow-dried Breck girl hair. John Kerry, that human toothache, isn't running this time (thank God, the nausea factor would be too much). Al Bore is expected to step in at the last minute as the unifying candidate whose major issue, appropriately enough, is hot air (global warming). The Democrats are a bunch of nothing: no issues, no ideas, no substance, no clue. Rudy Giuliani will be the GOP candidate and ride roughshod over the whole miserable lot.

I have been working a lot over the last two weeks, but my project ends this weekend and I move to a new one on Monday. So my output may continue to be sparse for a while longer.

The good news is that, thanks to the Dimwitocrats, I get to lose an hour of sleep a month early, thanks to their tinkering with Daylight Savings Time. They'll do anything to save energy but nothing to produce more of it.
