That's because the schmo on the right is such a lousy looking Santa Claus.
What on earth was he thinking? He's not fat and doesn't have a white beard. He appears to be just some guy with a cigar in a cheap Santa suit. I am so disillusioned. Well, that is a nice bass guitar though.
