Unemployed, Desperate and Despondent: I'm Not The Only One.

The New York Times has a cheery article about the chronic joblessness effecting 14.6 million Americans.  It's called "Jobless and Staying That Way."

Of those millions, about 1.4 million have been unemployed for more than 99 weeks -- that's almost two years of unemployment.  That's the point when unemployment benefits run out.  I have been unemployed just over a year, so there are people worse off than I am.  Last week I received a bail-out, not from the government, but from other bloggers and blog readers who donated $1,700 to help me pay some bills (with much thanks to R.S. McCain and Smitty who started the fund drive on my behalf).

Actually, I am not despondent and do not plan on jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge anytime soon.  Right now I feel somewhat upbeat.  Why, I have no idea.  Even before I read this article, I had already come to the conclusion that I am not going to find a job, so no use worrying about it.

I know I am not alone in this boat.  And November gets closer every day.

I know how you feel, Stogie.  I think you feel pretty good because you have so many
nice friends and people on the net that donated to you!  This is a good sum and that would cheer my heart to know people we haven't even met in person care about us.

God Bless and hang in there, it doesn't help to get depressed, because nothing good is going to happen until November.
